I love everything about this man!
I'll always regret not having gone out and shook the mans hand. He was in our office once when I worked at Hubble. I love his statement about treaty verification satellites. When I was at Hubble, I had seen some of the Shuttle astronauts actually attend a science talk or two aside from the post Hubble service missions where we'd get to have a meet and greet with an entire crew.
Damn boi, you fumbled the bag there. But shii you still worked at Hubble.. that's better than my resume of manual labor gigs.
In some parallel universes, Carl Sagan ran for president and won. I wish I had been in one of those universe.
why are there so few sagans?
We are unworthy
Imagine Thanksgiving dinner with Carl...
Wow
Imagine cold dinners
Okay
34 years later, Spacex. Carl would be pleased. Maybe not by the Impaler.
Apollo 11 Command Module pilot Mike Collins in the audience shown at 4:14. We lost Carl Sagan too soon.
Thank you Ward love❤ 2:15:40
I miss carl 😔
This is great. Very educational. Sir Carl
Wonder what Mr. Sagan would have thought Of Trump...

"One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back."
Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark
@@Paraiso3009 wow! That's deep yet so true!!!! Nice! Thank you
@@Paraiso3009 Excellent response!
Dr Sagan’s own words.
I’m bamboozled.
Well done indeed
Thank you
If Dr. Sagan could see todays world he'd be livid. He'd be pleased with the Mars stuff, but whats going on with other countries is atrocious. Pres. Reagan once said 'wouldn't it be something to see how we'd all come together if there were a threat from out there....an extrarrestrial threat?'
If you're a subscriber to this channel ... You may notice I've had no new uploads since March 2021. It's a long story, but I don't have access to the channel management features any more. I've been copying all the videos over to a new channel, called Space SPAN (Space Policy and News). If you want to subscribe to the new channel, which will have all of this channel's content plus anything new since March 2021, the link is:

Thanks as always for your support and interest in space policy, news, and history.
A comment by John Milton on this matter is “ Mars waste of money” and I thought about his comment. Between 1988 - 2020. If half the money spent on WARS, the military industrial complex, infiltration and destabilization processes (which even an absolutely certified idiot would concur that it’s unquestionably totally waste of money and lives) was spent on the MARS idea, what do you imagine the results could be?, supposing that NASA and all efforts were not politically enforced.
Yup. But these idiots are obsessed with world hegemony, war, destruction, invasions, destabilizations, and occupations and have been for 70+ years.
Listening to this, its tough to not reminisce about the initial hope of the Hubble mission and then the crashing of those hopes when the mirror was found to be flawed. After the repairs of Hubble though, Hubble saved NASA's image plenty of times, when NASA had lost public interest a time or three. Remember, this talk was before internet. 29:50 the greenhouse data is about the only data I've ever seen that actually is convincing.
Was so relieved to see carl sagan disagree with some of the profoundly ignorant comments he received.
How is it that Carl Sagan shares a voice with Jeff Goldblum? 🤔
Carl Sagan is my Dad.

@ 9:20 mustache guy hates being watched!
are the people his speaking to alive ?
I rather listen to Carl Sagan, talking than some rubbish trash star wars mary sue disney tripe.
The year is now 2020. We have just sent 2 new missions to Mars
Globally, worldwide we are still denying global warming we have now gone over out tipping point. We are in the middle of a global viral pandemic, America has a moronic buffoon as President and Carl is gone. :( We desperately need more scientists of Carls calibre steering the global discourse now instead of hysterical religious folk and conspiracy theorists. I'll check back in in 2030 (if we're still here) to see how far we've come.
believe it was 30 years ago when all the rage was the next ice age was on it's way, planet is dynamic and changes with or without our presence. You adapt, or you become part of history. Keep your political world view out of this chat on science or your opinion drops to 1/10th it's value.
@@MrKos1995 Lighten up, Francis. You sound pretty intolerant there for a RUclips comment section. Besides, it's the OP's chat. Feel free to start your own thread where you can tell people to keep their political world view to themselves, but that attitude and approach here decreases the value of your opinion to effectively nothing. Good day, sir.
Things were so much better under Odumbo when NASA's principal mission was to promote the contributions of Muslims to math and science. How about you leftists leave the politics out of the comments and just focus on the brilliance of Dr. Sagan.
Study the Bible as in read the stories and just belive in god
Christ died for us to please his father and himself and his creation False Christianity tell us life is great yaydada. When in reality life is miserable and hard and horrifying we must suffer Like are Lord
And not 2 years had passed after this talk, when Energya had gone to trash along with country that built it.

You can't compare Venus's atmosphere to Earth unless ALL other factors are EQUAL. There's far far too many differences between the two to just say it's that one thing...

The word manned is either used improperly or not used at all anymore all because some people have poor grammer and think manned or man means male only. How about just educating them instead of creating more division in humans/man.
Manned just means crewed or staffed by one or more people, and the word man has two definitions the other definition means humans

I keep hoping the last presenter will say "take off, eh."
But seriously, great presentation - shame it never happened. Instead of going for the Future Tech win we're apparently trying for an Empire win. LAME!.
When you are in front of dirty poilticians ...and the guy who is about to die ... is asking stupid questions ... I am sure most of them are dead ...not in Mars

Space is a waste of time
Yes, why should we protect and pay our respects to our planet, that's such a primitive idea, is it not? By the way, good luck moving billions of people to the moon... Wait, I can already see Donald Trump waving to us from above, on his way to the moon with other such fiends, with a smile all over his lips while we're undergoing immolation, writhing in woeful agony of pain.
Mars waste of money
It's only money wasted if its of no value... Now building nuclear bombs (so many that we could not only destroy this planet but every planet in our solar system with plenty to spare.. That's a WASTE of money)
Missions to other planets would not be wasted money... The science developed in doing these things often ends up having huge money spinning advances in technology as well as scientific knowledge.
And one day... Hopefully not for another 5 billion years or so.. This planet will be destroyed and mankind will be destroyed with it unless we have managed to move to other worlds.
Now 5 billion years is a long time and none of us will be here... But the way we are abusing this planet we could just wipe ourselves out tomorrow... Or an asteroid could do to us what one did to the dinosaurs.
Finally expanding the limits of what we can achieve will aid us hopefully to evolve into a better species although looking around me today I fear we are regressing back to where we have come from rather than evolving to be more than we are today..
Then just continue to die on this polluted planet and become part of it. Mwagh
