Not sure who the person was, that said you should "pause and talk", and I can't speak for anyone else, but I have unsubscribed from quite a few reactors for that very reason. "I" want to see the person's 'reaction'. On their faces while they listen and watch. How their eyes and mouth react (or if they scratch their head, LOL) tells me far more than their words could. I very rarely watch videos by "vocal coaches", "voice teachers" or other similar people, because I'm just your ordinary music lover, and all the technical aspects are lost on me. I know what I like, and when I "see" someone else enjoying the same music, they don't need to go in to detail to explain why. Thumbs up for your reactions. (and your Gumbo video, LOL)
Você está certo!!!
I agree. Some reactors seem to have an uncanny ability to pause at the precise millisecond at some crucial key change in the music which kills the flow. For instance, at the famous rock 'drop' in Bohemian Rhapsody. Just before the operatic section reaches the crescendo and we're about to rock-out, yep, hit the pause button!.
I 🅰gree with you completely
I agree if you want the pause and talk after every line the go to the gajillion other reactors who do. I understand in some circumstances you have to to avoid copyright strikes but other than that let it play then give your critique
Right on ! Too many pauses. Ruins the flow
And they miss it!
I've loved this song forever. The original recording doesn't come close to this! His voice just got better like a fine wine!
I agree with you!!
I so much agree, more soul and emotion from a lived life :)
In an interview, Peter Frampton was asked "Is there a perfect song?". He said Whiter Shade of Pale is the perfect song.
The Brits stick together, don't they?
I think Moody Blues “NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN IS THE PERFECT SONG”
DO NOT PAUSE!! You’re right about your audience!, TY!
One of the greatest songs ever. This performance is magnificent
Yeah, man.. One of the ones.. A soul journey, not even a song.
This performance is a refinement of an art form, Brilliant. That being said listening to the original version in context also tells you what a classic it really is. great to see the masters putting in best ever performances.
I'm not disagreeing with you but I think he should have listened to the original first. The original is the version that launched the song to the world.
The cameraman sure likes the blonde violinist!
I was 16 when this song came out in May, 1967. The debut single of Procol Harum sold ten MILLION copies worldwide. This version in 2006 featured the band playing with the Denmark Symphony Orchestra. The arrangement starts with the melody played in C Minor which immediately evokes a bittersweet feeling. The oboe player is soloist and just before Gary Brooker's vocal, the orchestra plays a beautiful Tierce de Picardie, moving the melody into the major key. Brooker's voice, like vintage wine, has improved and matured with age. The introduction of the Hammond B3 and drums at second verse is exquisite. The audio engineers did a superlative live mix of a full orchestra, male and female choir, piano, organ, guitars, bass, drums and lead vocal. As a performance, it borders on the mystical, transporting the listener to a magical trance-like experience. Hallelujah!
You're certainly not missing out on anything by listening to this version, except a certain nostalgic feeling many of us have for the original. This was great.
Loved this version. The old fella still has it.
Was this man the first to sing it? I think he sounds better here, than when he was young. I had to come back and listen, again 😊
@@jessiem276 looking at your thumbnail picture tells me you weren't around in 1967 when the original 'Whiter Shade of Pale' was released, but yes that is the original singer. Sounds like he's taken care of his voice over the years. I think you'll get a kick out of the original video if you've never seen it!😁
Man he sounds as good as when this first came out. Cant say this for a lot of old artists
Lol !"The Old Fella"" never lost it.
Back when talent was talent. No auto tune or tracks. Just pure talent.
It's not even a song.. It's more like a journey for the soul.
That was a perfect description, my friend!
I love this version of the song. The orchestra and choir add a whole new dimension to this!
I was 17 when this came out in 1967.. I still have my 45 record. man oh man Gary Brooker sounds even better today, it has been 54 years since he wrote and recorded this... This is the original writer and singer What an awesome request.. thank you so much for reacting to this iconic song.
Thanks for listening
No, you don't need to change ANYTHING, Ty. I love that you don't pause the videos. This version of the song was awesome!
He still had an impressive voice for his age..and really enjoyed the live orchestral feel. Great choice!
It improved
Gary still has his chops. Brilliant arrangement. Full orchestra, genius!
His voice is like a fine wine - aged to perfection. Great song in the 60s and still great.
The original was awesome. This version just took it to another, greater level
I found this version a few years ago and it gave me a new love for this song. His voice has matured so well and the arrangement is amazing. Good stuff.
This was a beautiful version, and he still has a great voice also !!!!!!!
White haired 👨🏽🦳 old man sings 🎤🎶 I’m brought to tears 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽❤️
No, what I like about you is that you don’t stop throughout the song, and you don’t pepper your videos with foul language! You do a great job, thank you! And this is a really nice rendition of this song 😊. I grew up during the era of this music and love hearing it and seeing the next generations gain an appreciation of the workmanship involved.
No we want you to do exactly what you’re doing... I love to watch your face.your reaction is great to us....
He sang this when he was about 18 yrs old and it was a hit - he didn't lose an ounce of talent and sounded even better. Great song and performance. People have been trying to interpret the song for 50 yrs now.
I always liked the original, but this is beautiful
I bought that single back in 1967 and the song still gets me. How many times has Gary Brooker sung that song. I believe this is the best version bar none. Sad that he just recently passed. He will be missed.
The singer is still amazing after all these years....
My generation. Love this song the 60’s was an awesome time to be alive. I’m 70 and I still get goosebumps listening to this song, love his soulful voice.
He still got it man! Love this voice!
The lyrics are fantastic. This version just sets me back. I have listened to this hundreds of times and never get tired of it. This version has that Bach feel to it. Thank you for playing it.
Glad you loved it, even tho I was 16 in 1967. Now I'm 71 and this 2006 version to me is the the most magnificent! Keep on Ty, you're doing great! Thanks!
I was 14 in 67' (now 69) and, when I first heard this song, I fell in love with it. I agree with you that this 2006 version magnificent! I also liked that Ty listened to the song and did not interrupt. As a side note, about a year ago, I learned that the reference to "The Miller's Tale" was a tale written by Chaucer in the book The Canterbury Tales from the late 1300's. It was written in Middle English. When I checked out the book from the library, the copy I received was written using the original Middle English language. Needless to say, it was very hard to read but well worth the trouble. Take care Marcia.
@@bobn3553 Another 69 dude named Bob
Only 43 records released as singles have sold over 10,000,000 physical copies. This is one of them and it's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
This performance was the best he has done. The orchestra and choir made it awesome. This has been in my playlist for a while now.
Thank you for reminding me what a beautifully sung, amazing song this is. I am an 86 year old Brit so have appreciated Procul Harum for many years. So sad to have lost Gary Brooker recently...RIP...
Yes Joy, he'll be missed, but his beautiful music lives on... perfect performance...bless you..
It's amazing he sounds this good after all these years.
This is great. The original is awesome. You’d love their Conquistador.
Conquistador is my favorite from the same concert!!
This is better than the original
@@innosanto I disagree. This is great live performance, but the original recording is unmatched. IMO.
Lead singer Gary Brookers voice sounds even better to me now 40 years later. This is definitely better than the original album version, in my opinion. Although I love both. Just a preference for this one. His voice is more deeper, soulful, raspy. Like a fine aged bottle of wine, only gets better!! I saw a 2018 performance from him and he sounded the same! Amazing! Another great song by Procol Harum is "Conquistador" there's an album version from 1971 from Edmonton, Canada.Geat drums, great guitar, great singing. They do a version in this concert. You should check them both out, the original one is also live on the album from the 1971 Edmonton concert. Great stuff! Love your channel Ty. I know when you scratch your head you really love it! 😁✌
Pandora's Box - magic!
Was in Nam 18 months..remember this song well
I salute you Sir.......
Thanks for your service.
This song gives me chills & makes me flashback to the 70's.
Song is beautiful ……. Everything in that performance was spot on !!!!!!!
Gets to me, makes me want to cry ….
The original recording is awesome. This live version is even awesomer!
Totally agree mate, considering the time span from first release to this live concert Gary Brookers voice is still brilliant, if not even stronger with time and the band still sounds tight and throw in an orchestra and choir it became fresher, cleaner, and simply beautiful. Loved the video when I first saw it on You tube a while back and glad it was requested for all MRM fans to enjoy, and any who say different can just talk to the hand
Keep Safe Keep Strong My Dear Friends
I am one of those that prefers the way you wait till the end to react...! There are very few reactors that I enjoy listening to... because of that very reason. Thanks...!
That's why I love your channel so much is for that reason.......you don't stop and talk about every little note sang, or guitar sounds..........I love your reactions........the headscratching, and the faces you make.........then listen to what you have to say...........AWESOME.......
When it come out in 1967 he sounds the same as he did in this awesome version but in 2018 he was messing around in a what looks like a small venue he is older but his voice sounds the same. He has kept his voice in tip top shape. Love this song and this version rocks.❤💞⚘✝️
Gary Brooker is just an incredible singer/pianist/songwriter & has done so for YEARS!! Procol Harum came out in 1967. Through some years they would break up but Gary was ALWAYS there, just fantastic!!!! xx
They first debuted this song September 1st 1967... been following him and the band 54 years now;-)) They are like a fine wine better with time!!
You know it's magical when that head scratch comes out.😊
This song is an absolute masterpiece.
When Hammond came in your face expression told where have l heard this. Yes, its J.S.Bach, Air.
I love this song! It’s in my top favs of all time. I’ve been listening to this since it’s release in 1967...I was 14. Gary Booker’s still got it❤️❤️❤️
One of my favorite performances on RUclips.....it is a tour de force....the orchestra, the background singers, the lead? Astonishing. BTW, Ty, you stay the same! God bless!
Your primordial patron demonstrates great taste. Thanks for your reaction!
Procol Harum is wonderful. Gary’s voice is still beautiful. Age hasn’t changed his singing abilities at all. I love all his music. He is a very handsome man for his age. God bless this wonderful talent. His guitar player is still great too. It makes me cry, how our lives go by so fast. I like this rendition so much. ❤️🌹❤️
Part of the sound-track of my life. I was 18 when it was released and listened to it for hours. His voice hasn't changed at all.
Best reaction ever! You listened and you reacted. Big respect man.
A truly amazing song. What a brilliant and heartfelt performance
Thank you so much for listening to a song all the way through until the end. This song has always given me such a mellow feeling. Love his voice!
Just soak it up and absorb it into your soul. That's the way I feel. Thanks for not interrupting during the music.
I have listened to the original version hundreds upon hundreds of times over my 52 years. Then, out of the blue, I found this song about 3 months ago. Originalists can pout or kick-and-scream all day about this, but Gary's voice has aged like a fine wine and has turned this masterpiece into a masterpiece for the Ages. I play this version at least twice a day now. It haunts me, it brings tears to my eyes most times, it makes me smile so broadly, it lifts me out of the battlefield that is my soul. The original version was my brothers favorite song and I truly wish I would have known about this version for his wake...
Modern Renaissance Man you just keep on doing what you are doing I love it an we know you are true when you love the music. I am an old lady of 69 years and I was smooching to this song the first time around ha ha ha. 🤣
I am so happy you love this. This version from the original singer is in my opinion a top ten piece of all time!!!
I always loved Gary Booker's singing. I say these guys live, in a high school gym, in 1969.
You gave the perfect reaction to a perfect performance.
Brilliant way back when and that performance was wicked
Thank you to your requester. Love this song and haven't heard it for at least 25years. There will be many, , many people enjoying this with you. It's a standout from that era.
Thanks for listening
Absolutely love this version!
This *is* the perfect version of this song. Love your reaction and understanding.
The studio version of this song always tugged at my heart with it's exquisite melody. this live version with all the lush vocals and instrumentation moves to a masterfully crafted, soul stirring, ethereal experience. one of my top favorites from the '60's evolved into the top favorite of my list.
I can see Ray Charles in pale as he sings. Crazy.Beautiful.
My thoughts exactly
You've picked another good one here. Takes me back to the Vietnam years - it encapsulated the feeling of that time in mind. But it must be listened to at full noise to really let it seep into your soul
Great reaction, brother. THAT is the best version, even after all these years!
This song is a modern (well, 1967) update of some old to ancient inspirations. The overall melody is inspired by "Air on a G String" by Johann Sebastian Bach (you can pick this out especially in the solo oboe line played during the orchestral prelude). The setting for the lyrics is a tavern where locals and travelers/pilgrims would mingle in the evening as told in the 14th century "Canterbury Tales" by Geoffrey Chaucer, of which "The Miller's Tale" was one specifically. The Vestial virgins reference is even older, going back to ancient Roman times. They were priestesses of the Roman goddess of the hearth Vestia. Vestia was also considered a fertility goddess, so it is one of those contradictory requirements that the novice priestess were required to take a vow of celibacy for 30 years before entering service to the cult. But back to this song. Gary Brooker's voice has aged very nicely and that Hammond organ line became hardwired into my synapses decades ago. The original studio version is wonderful, but this concert recording losses nothing in translation. If any '60s rock ballad is deserving of a symphonic orchestra and choir accompaniment, it is "A Whiter Shade of Pale".
Thanks for your explanation, very informative.
The downward chord progression is taken from Bach, but the melody is original. It just has a Bach-like sound.
@@steveneardley7541 Exactly. As I said it was "inspired by" Bach, a source for much wondrous music. After more than three centuries, he certainly has legs.
Love your reaction... the nostalgia... that some people will never experience... you keep doing you...
I remember when the original was released in 1967 and I fell in love with this song. I say without hesitation or reservation that I love this glorious orchestral and choir backed version better. Gary’s voice actually sounds better at the age of 68 that he was in this performance.
Another great honest reaction and it was the best version. Thank you.
This *is* the definitive version of this song. It is different from the original 1967 hit single, which was recorded in a studio without the symphony orchestra and choir. The hit single started with the Hammond B3 organ with the Leslie, which was featured prominently in the mix. But Gary Brooker’s incredible voice is what made this song so unforgettable, and he has aged like a fine wine. He was 22 when he recorded the original version. He’s 61 in this video. And there’s another video on RUclips of him singing this song in 2018 when he’s 73 and he still sounds like a million bucks. What a treat. I’m so glad you did a reaction to this. There’s another song that’s on RUclips from this same 2006 outdoor concert in Denmark worth checking out. It’s Procol Harum’s other big hit, “Conquistador,” which *was* originally recorded with a symphony orchestra.
I watch this at least once a week because this soothes my soul.
Me too.
Been watching you for almost two years now, keep doing what your doing, reintroducing me to the music of my youth! Ignore the critics and haters!
thank you so much to the Patreon who suggested this reaction, that is the best version I have heard of this, truly enjoyed every second, cheers mate
Must hear this ;Hear what we heard, go back in time with us❤️
I love your reactions. You listen and say what it did for you. Never pausing is a great thing.
An Iconic Instrumental writer and an Iconic singer, Gary Brooker sounds unbelievable . I think he actually sounds better 39 years later because his voice has deepened and really sings from the heart and soul. I hope God gives this man many more years blessing us with his voice. I know he has to be a great inspiration to many.
This is one of the best performances of this song Brilliant
Thank You ! That was an OUTSTANDING version of this song ! Those 100's of all artists working together to make HEAVEN> Amen. amen.
one of the best singer, what a voice still, whatt a legend!! ♥️♥️♥️
You keep being you and don't change. Absolutely amazing song and amazing voice.
Used to listen to Percy Sledge full blast in my first apartment, dancing around MY living room, this song was one of my faves.👍
Used to sell fried chicken to Percy Sledge.😁
both versions are well worth listening to for this great song, each just adding a different texture for your pleasure
I have always loved this song, but finding this version was a real joy.. the orchestra and the singers in the back added another level, and it's beautiful. What a great performance
I didn’t think you would have liked this type of music. But, I’m glad you were so honest about the music. Well done. Thanks.
One of the best selling records ever and has been recorded by over a thousand artists.
You are the only reactor that I've become a patreon for because your reactions are deep and perceptive. In other words, you are a musicologist. Keep on with the true that.
Absolutely one of the best songs ever! I so wish I was there. For some reason I get choked up every time I watch it.
Your perfect....DO NOT PAUSE..... this is why I watch you and no one else. I just look at your facial reactions...thst tells me what you think about the song
The great Gary Brooker has still got it. Your reactions have got even better since I first started watching you.
I like the way you listen,no need to pause. This is a great song.
One of the most beautiful songs made.
I've come back here about 10 times in 3 days to watch this. Guarantee it wouldn't have happened with pauses. Nice job my friend~ way to do you!
Magnificent performance from Gary brooker and all the musicians ❤️
Thank you so much for not pausing the music to say something most of us know or feel.
