Wow, I've not seen this orchestral version of the song before, what a beautiful performance. I know the song so well - it was massive in the 1960s, actually 1967. It got to No 1 in the UK charts and was there for six weeks. I love this song, it really takes me back, it's such an evocative melody and Gary Brooker's voice here is still so good and still so distinctive. There's a promotional video from 1967 called PROCOL HARUM - A Whiter Shade Of Pale - promo film #2 (Official Video) and this would let you hear the original version, guys. It was upgraded in 2008. Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/2puubv2e0L4/видео.html Thanks so much for your reaction, guys. All the best.

They sound he same as in 1967, maybe better? Id s that possible??? He's now in that Huge Rock & Roll Band in Heaven!

RIP Gary Brooker, who just died on Feb 19, 2022 of cancer at the age of 76. What always amazed me about this video is that his voice sounded JUST THE SAME as it did in 1967 when WHITER SHADE OF PALE was first released. I was 20 years old in 1967, and this song is such a FAVORITE of mine through all these years THAT ORGAN, MAKES that song besides Gary's voice. It ALWAYS gives me chills every time I hear it....it just NEVER gets "old"

Matthew Fisher was the original organist and it was he, not JS Bach who composed the organ melody. He used a Hammond B102 which gave the song a sort of haunting sound.

Gary Brooker, the singer on this video, recorded this song in 1967, when he was 22 years old. The miracle is that there is almost no discernable sign that his voice changed in all that time.
Brooker is STILL writing & recording music AND TOURING, at age 76.

Yes….he did a fantastic job on this….and the arrangement was utterly beautiful……This was a late sixties MEGA-hit….all over the radio. Has such a mystical feel to it….a timeless feel. I remember you dudes were shocked also at hearing Robert Plant sing Kashmir from 2007. Some of those icons from back in the day have been very blessed to be able to sing into their elder years. And it really is a blessing, for them and for us.

That familiar tune might be Bach's Air on a "G" string, which Whiter Shade" doesn't mimic exactly, but honours...

    A few facts.
This was hosted by DR, Danish first national TV station, going back to 1925ish. DR stands for Danmarks Radio.
They have their own orchestra, which is also the national symphony orchestra, and the choir is also part of the radio- and TV station, DR.
This was just one of many concerts, but they thought this as so great, that they asked Procol Harum, to make a DVD out of the concert. This took a while, so the DVD only came out 3 years later, in 2009.
The orchestra, or rather the music department of DR, also has a RUclips channel, called DR Koncerthuset. It's pretty popular. Their most popular recording, is "The Good, the bad and the ugly", which has over a hundred million views. It is well worth a watch, and also reaction.
Maybe a hundred million views doesn't sound like a lot, but for an orchestral peace, it's quite a lot.

Sometimes it is true that w-age a voice may not be as great as when a singer was young, but through the yrs. i've noticed that a singing artist who began w-a magnificent voice at a young age can have almost as great of a voice when they are older. These singing artists from yrs. ago had real NATURAL talent -- no electronics to "fix" a voice to make it sound good or better. They were all real -- they HAD to be.

Sometimes the older voice is even better more emotion etc

@@ClassicTor True, a mature voice may sometimes be better, but w-regards to Elvis, it couldn't possibly be more emotional -- if that were to ever happen i think the entire universe would have exploded.

Thanks a ton ! Like hugely this band. This was their first single and also their worldwide greatest hit.( N°1 on summer 67 in France). Nowadays , it's a cult song , hugely iconic. This track, is in my top 100. About the organ set, thanks to J.S. BACH. My others fav ones are the awesome: "A salty dog" and "Conquistador" played live with the Edmonton Symphonic Orchestra, issued on Lp then on CD, but unfortunately there's no video. Others gems by them that I like hugely: : "Grand hotel", "Hamburg", "The wreck of the Hesperus", " Whaling story", ...
