Marc-Andrés Vision - Torre Egger

- Marc spotted this unclimbed line on the east face of Torre Egger in 2016, while rappelling from the route Titanic. He sent me phots of the supposed line and we talked about returning in the following years to try it together.
Marc passed away while climbing in Alaska in 2018, and at first I wondered if his vision for this line would slip away with him. I scrolled back to our conversations from 2016 and learned all that i could about the line, then asked Quentin Lindfield Roberts to try it with me.
In 2019 we succeeded in finding the way up the lower face, and managed to free the pitches at 12b. However, a backpack strap broke while hauling our bags, and my mountain boots fell off the mountain. Due to poor weather we couldn't return until the next season.
In 2020 we invited a friend Horacio Gratton to join us. We decided that a team of three was a safer decision incase anything went wrong. It was a very cold and wet season, so we had to adjust some of our plans. We climbed to the summit via our 2019 line up the lower face, and linked it into the upper line of Titanic to the top.
We named the route or Marc-Andres Vision.
I just finished the movie and still have tears rolling down my face. I don't even know why, 3 hours ago didn't even know Marc-André existed. He seems like a guy who could have been my best friend in an alternative universe somewhere. I too have ADHD and found school like prison and can rest my mind while climbing. Thanks Brette, for sharing these vids.
I have ADHD too. Climbing alone is the only place I can really quiet my monkey mind.
No offense intended but Marc was in the autistic spectrum to some degree.
Incredibly strong driven climber who I wish was still around. I know his mom will forever be heart broken.
Definitely climbed to his own beat and no matter what people say about him dying doing what he loved he loved they’re wrong. He was trying to live every second doing what he loved.
We didn’t always get along in the end but I’m still happy he followed his dreams.
i only learned about him an hour ago. i'm afraid to learn more because i feel some sort of ache in in heart. i'm ADHD and i love to climb. where i am there are no mountains though, so as a child i only climbed trees, but if there was ever something to climb- i wanted to climb it. even as a toddler i seemed to have been drawn to high places. as a teen when i traveled to the mountains, it felt as if i was coming home. from that day on, it felt like the mountains were always calling me. wasn't crazy about rock-climbing persay, but mountain hiking was something that i find myself always wanting to do. then i tried ice climbing for the first time and i picked up on it right away. it felt so easy that i thought i had to be doing it wrong. i don't know if it was before or after the ice climbing, but i had also gone to college to major in arboriculture, where i learned how to professionally climb trees. ah, sorry for rambling. Rest in peace Marc-Andre. i wish your story becomes far more well-known.
Just keep telling others his story. Absolute monster!
What a tribute to Marc. He will always live on! 🏔
it's clear to see why marc andre loved and respected you as he did; says a lot about him as well-- he found treasures in his precious few years that most of us search our entire lives for
such a beautiful comment
This is an under-rated comment. Marc-Andre Leclerc was a master alpinist and your ability to fulfill his wishes speaks volumes to your abilities. I never heard of Marc-Andre Leclerc until finding Magnust Midtbo (sorry for the spelling) youtube vids. It’s clear that Leclerc was one of the best alpinists. His message to you on Torre Egger climb demonstrated to me that he respected you and loved you. He got to experience the world in ways 99.999999% of the world can never experience. You could relate. Leclerc’s mission was clearly to show humanity the essence of life, which is finding the beauty in the struggle. Be safe. Be happy. Be true to Leclerc’s lifestyle, live for the journey not the destination.
Such an incredible piece of art that Brett experienced and shared. I loved the quiet moments - soft music and the outdoor panoramas - that Brett put together in this memorial to Marc-Andre. Makes me appreciate small moments I sometimes I have during outdoor adventures when memories and thoughts of loved ones cross my mind. Thanks for sharing, Brett.
Really well done, and perfect way to honour Marc-Andrè.
You know he's with you forever! So much love! Wish I could just go do my dreams. Love watching you guys because I'll never get half of this!
He truly lived life, what a great way to celebrate his spirit. Amazing work.
Absolutely incredible! Thank you so much for sharing!
I'm at Torre Egger right now. I was inspired to see this place after watching the Alpinist. I road a Himalayan motorcycle from El Calafate to El Chalten and I can say this is easily one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Seeing these mountains, feeling the wind, I'm evenmore in awe of those that have climbed it. Absolute legends. Thank you for sharing your story with us 🙏
Beautiful. Marc André would be proud! 😊
Brette I am so glad to see you living the life and continuing the legacy you both built.
What a way to honor him. He's definitely so proud!
Super inspiring. There is a powerful peaceful energy pulsing throughout this film. Must be Marc-Andrè.
Great video...that first Biv was insane. I always imagine myself if I was there just rolling over in my sleep off the mountain.
Great homage to Marc Andre 🏔
That was a beautiful and fitting tribute to Marc-Andrè. Bad ass effort from all of you.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Beautiful.
I got emotional watching, beautiful and inspiring! Thank you

Soaked to the bone. A classic ending to a classic climb. Chapeau - a tip of the hat ( or helmet ).
A wonderful adventure, thank you for taking us along with you
What a beautiful tribute to him. Thank you for sharing these ethereal moments with all of us Brette.
I would love to see more videos from you, Brette. You're a cool human and impressive climber and I always love to see you in climbing media.
This was seriously rad and emotional. Thank you for this.
Fantastic achievement you three, I think Marc would be so so happy for you. Beautiful film.
Great imagery from a FFA, sound alike an ideal party, both times. Chapeaux!
Ms. Harrington, I consider myself a bit of an armchair mountaineer and after reading every single climbing book I've been able to get my hands on, Marc-Andres story still gets me a little choked up. Not to labor the point, as I'm sure you know all too well. Rest assured that there are many many people who's love, thoughts and prayers are truly with you. Congratulations on an historic ascent
He would be so proud of you. I'm so sorry you lost him. He was an amazing human.
This was such emotional climb to watch. Conquering Torre Egger the way Marc had imagined. You’re an incredible role model, Brette! Shout out to the crew too. Phenomenal footage as always!
I loved the Alpinist movie - it was awesome and I loved Marc's spirit and bravery. He seemed like such a sweet and gentle soul. I was so anxious watching him free soloing and it's awful that he perished. At least it was when he was doing something he was. Brette, I am so sorry for your loss. I've lost people that I was equally close to and it is devastating and for a long time. I hope you are doing well.
Such a beautiful tribute to Marc André. He would be so happy to see you having fun climbing and continuing to pursue the vision you had together. You inspire all of us to keep going. Keep on going Brette! We’re here to support you every step of the way ❤️

Very nice video, I saw the alpinist here the other day, it was an amazing film, but a very sad ending, I don't know what to say other than i'm sorry for you loss of Marc Andre, what a legend he was. He was really just living with what he loved. You are also an amazing climber and person Brette :) Wish you all the best.

I'm glad you had good weather with views; appropriate for a mountaineering vision. Cheers.
I can’t picture a better way to remember such a person as Marc Andre. Thank you for sharing such a crazy cool video with the beautiful “quiet moments” as another fan described them. Side note you are a freaking stud muffin!!! Got the palm sweats but I can’t turn away. Woohoo!!!
Superb short film! Very emotional💜
the fact that marc-andre scaled this wall solo in much worse weather condition is mind bending

That’s interesting the girl is wearing a boot with ice climbing crampon on one foot and a rock climbing shoe on the other foot. Your video is excellent. Thank you.

Wooow amazing 👍
that looks like beautiful climbing
Thanks for the stoke❤️
Nice! Thanks for sharing.
amazing!
You people are extraordinary.
Beyond words...🤩
Way to go Brette!!💛⭐️💛
you inspire me brette
Awesome that you also show the descent. It's always missing in most climbing vids.
The saddest and worst part was that he didn’t even die from falling. Mother Nature finally took its course and even though it was way too early, did what every solo climber dreams of and buried him in the mountains. I’d say RIP but I know for certain he is. One of the bravest of the brave in my eyes.
Well done all!
Still weird to think that the kid I taught to trad climb at Harrison Bluffs 15 or so years ago went so far.
For his family’s sake, I wish he were still around living the dream.
Super video I like it super Montin good work good team amazing thanks friend I m abadat ali from Pakistan
No way! Lex Villena! I knew I recognized that song. :)
Marc the best climber ever
For Marc ♥️
