Koi ---HOW TO--- Hand feed your Koi

  • Most people want to feed their Koi by hand and have them hand tame and not have them swim off scared and at hundred miles an hour around the pond.
So here we have my top 3 tips to help you get your fish to feed out of your hand.
    1 - Get yourself a Chagoi
These fish are just driven by food and are usually very tame to start, giving you the perfect clam start to get the other Koi in your pond to feed from your hand.
2 - Stand in the same place to feed the fish
Choose a spot by the side of your pond and this will be the only place you feed the fish. Over time they will associate you standing there with food, which when its hot and theyre mad for food will draw them over to you food or no food they will just expect it
    3 - Fast the Koi for 24hours
Again best to do in summer months, but if youre still struggling for the fish to trust you, dont feed them for 24hours. Stand in the designated spot, then have your hand in the water and release a few pellets. You may need to do this a few times but their hunger will out way the fear they have.
Hope this helps. if this is something youve been trying to do, or wondered why you fish dont feed from your hand
Let me know how youre getting on :-)
    Thanks
    Andy

Yeah my big Chag is always first followed by the smaller chags and Karashigoi when I'm feeding them (hand or otherwise!). I usually cut an orange in half and chuck both halves into the pond. I leave it for a few hours and both halves are hollowed out and on the pond bottom. Also put a lettuce in the pond. Again there's not much left after a couple of hours. Processed peas, sweetcorn, cooked mussels, prawns, fish sticks, honey cheerios.... Like yours at these temps they will eat whatever you are prepared to give them... Love the videos...

Nice simple tips, only thing I found with feeding at the same spot is smaller fish are pushed by the bigger ones and in some ponds may get pushed out

I have a chag and an Ochiba both approx 35cm now that eat from my hand , but because I work different hours on a 3 week cycle it’s hard to regular feeds so I’ve fitted a auto feeder , little n often , mine don’t really go mad for food but I was told it’s because my pond is under stocked for its size , so not sure , but they are growing 👍
    Ps CT added today 👍

On the head with the chag they are so greedy get one of them and the rest soon cotton on to how it works to get the most food and come in as well her indoors loves them so I have 4 but if you ever need a scrape you can get it at the pond side with ease so the net seldom go's in the pond.
