      Andos ReptilesForTheWin it typically takes a couple of weeks if they are shy and only a few days if they are bold. If you can try small amounts several times a day, they will see you more often and recognize you. Be still and patient with them and everything should work out. I’d be happy to answer and more questions and thanks for subscribing!

    Hey, awesome fish there! I have 3 shubunkin, 2 butterfly koi, 2 ghost koi and 7 gold fish. I was wondering how long it would take my fish to be friendly enough to touch them a little bit? My biggest fish are the 2 butterfly koi, one is a bit bigger than the other one, probably around 15 cm - 20cm. Also my oldest fish is my gold fish that by an inch the biggest of them all, Probably 20cm. The 6 other gold fish are new ones. Thanks for the tips again😊

      Each pond is a case by case situation, but I know someone who was new to ponds and had a mix just like you. After watching the video, he said within 2 weeks he had several them eating from his hand. I think the biggest thing is to be still and not let them think you are going to go after them. It’s the funniest feeling to have them sucking on your fingers!! You’ll get it happening soon enough!
      Thanks for stopping in and subscribing!

      Cape Fear Koi right. Funny enough I had one of the smallest goldfish suck on my fingers yesterday but the bigger ones are more scared for some weird reason🤷‍♂️ but they always stay at tho bottom when I stay by the pond. When I throw out food and hold my hand in the water at the same time they come up for 30 secs and go back down. Will keep trying to feed them like this and use your tips as well. Thanks again! Definitely a sub from me🙌😊

    Hey there, amazing fish and video! What you Said in the video at around 5:00 about the chagoi/sorigoi/ochiba really caught my attention. So I did some research about chagoi and saw that they were really big fish and wanted to ask if I could fit one in my pond? I have a 14 000 liter filter/pump that cleans the water and also a couple of plants in my pond for oxygen. I think the pond is a 3000 liter pond, it’s around 5 meters long, 2 meters wide. The deepest part of the pond is 80cm or so. I was a bit afraid that if I bought a chagoi it would be too big for my pond and die because it doesn’t have enough space? I really like the idea of a friendly fish since my fish are chickens😂 I’m no expert tho so hopefully you can help me out. Thanks for an informative video. Btw I subscribed😊

    • @Vanix_MM2
      @Vanix_MM2 4 года назад +1

      Also. Is there any way to reduce the size of the chagoi so it doesn’t get bigger than 60cm or so.

    • @CapeFearKoi
      @CapeFearKoi  4 года назад

      Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it! You could start with a smaller one(and typically more affordable) and see how it does. It really depends on if your filtration can handle the fish load without compromising water quality. I have seen them in smaller ponds and still do well. If it does indeed start to outgrow the pond, you could rehome or trade for a smaller one.

      Cape Fear Koi ok thanks for the information and no problem. I saw on the internet that I could get 5 fish. 4 of them being a chagoi and 1 being an ogon, all 15-27 cm. Only 80$ which I found quite cheap. Probably don’t have space for all 4/5 tho?

    • @CapeFearKoi
      @CapeFearKoi  4 года назад

      That’s a good deal! You could probably do 2 safely so it does not throw your parameters off and sell the other 3 locally to recoup your money. There are more than likely some local koi groups who would be interested. Chagoi are always in demand. They don’t last when I get them.

    I just have a small pond with some goldfish and I see them swimming from a distance. However when I come close to for example feed them they just hide and flee. Frustrating. It’s all caused by a heron attack months ago,

    I really believe breeders should also breed these fishes to higher intelligence as well as beauty. They put premium on beauty of the fish and breed standards but everyone ignores intelligence. I really think they should consider that as well going into the future.

    • @CapeFearKoi
      @CapeFearKoi  3 года назад

      That’s would be an interesting side of the hobby and would like to see some studies. I wouldn’t know where to start the case. I’m assuming it would start with the ability to find hidden food. I’m sure you would gain some notoriety in the community if you ended up attempting an intelligence case study and many would like to know the findings.

      I know a few people who saw the video and had their fish eating from their hands within a couple weeks. If your fish are skittish, being calm and still are the best ways to gain trust and go from there. I’d be happy to answer any questions.

    • @ivonadanziger964

      Today my koi let me touch them. Once my goldfish saw my koi be fine with me touching them they started to be less scared of me

  • @TheDrakulie

    Which species is the most intelligent ? Chagoi also ?

    • @CapeFearKoi
      @CapeFearKoi  3 года назад +2

      I’m not sure if there has been a true study in intelligence. Some may argue they are smarter for being friendlier and getting food sooner, but some may also argue the ones which are shy are smarter for keeping themselves distant from potential danger.
      I will say, the Chagoi is always on the top of the list of fish to be the most interactive people. I have since acquired a Chagoi tosai since this video and it has also eaten from my hand. So, we’ll see!

      @@CapeFearKoi I am in genetics field and intelligence too can be bred into the fish line by careful selection. They are not going to turn into dog level intelligence overnight but it can be done. We just don't see that side of it because people doesn't really care about Koi intelligence, just their beauty and consistency with breed standard.

    • @CapeFearKoi
      @CapeFearKoi  3 года назад +1

      I would be interested in reading up on what it takes to increase intelligence in fish. In general, they know shapes and even face recognition.

    • @TheDrakulie
      @TheDrakulie 3 года назад +1

      @@CapeFearKoi this is a good article on self-awareness of fish, and how they are much more intelligent than we thought. typical dot test can give you a rough idea of how smart they are. Koi that learns from previous experience and also is able to recognize itself is smarter than others. Not sure which koi breed can do this the best. Also intelligence can be bred into the fish, there is a specific gene that researchers found that passes on the intelligence. Breeders should do their best to pass this gene on by observing Koi behavior. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6366756/

      Large area for boiling bio filtration and automatic cleaning mechanism makes them almost maintenance free with awesome biological filtration. They are expensive, but the amount of time saved and filtration capabilities should be worth it.
