As a person in the design industry I can add that Finest needs something above the bar, perhaps really cool LED lights or mod chandeliers, or some feature, to create more interest and a better vibe. It’s presently a bit sterile looking. Lighting is the key to the mood. Enjoyed this. Cheers!

This review is what travelers need. I thought I was going to regret booking my first time in Punta Cana at Lopesan after seeing the other luxury resorts but this review has helped me feel complete. Thanks for being so thorough. I’m now subscribed .
We just got back from Lopesan yesterday, our room smelled like mold so bad, all our clothes picked that smell had to wash everything. Aside from that, Lopesan looks amazing!
We also had this issue at christmas 2022. we had to switch out rooms which was so much better. We had a great stay at this hotel after the room change issue. I would not not go back. I would image that they have busier periods than others. James mentioned the room AC in his review and that could be the issue -the AC is very clever and turns off when it doesn't think anyone is in the room. All our surfaces were damp after 24 hours.
I agree..lopesan was amazing and l stayed when all of the amenities were not open. Hands down one of the best resorts. Hopefully would like to return one day

We went to Punta Cana once 14 yrs ago, We are planning to go back to the DR end of Jan. We don't like resorts that make you feel like your in Miami. Hi, I’m going next month for 7 nights and now have three reservations- Lopesan, Excellence, and Finest! I can’t decide which one to choose! I want a little of everything, I like the quietness of adults only but the choice of a good night life and entertainment. Decisions Decisions!
Fantastic review as usual. I think you got very lucky with the solo room rate at Lopesan. It's Lopesan or Secrets Royal Beach for our next PC vacation. Our only PC vacation was at Excellence El Carmen and I want a better beach experience. Looking forward to your next vlog series. TIA
The beach at either Lopesan or Secrets RB is night and day better than Excellence. One word of caution there are a LOT of boats anchored right beside Lopesan which can be noisy and smelly from exhaust. I haven't stayed at Lopesan but stayed at the Melia basically next door to it and the boats were quite noticeable. (Between the Melia and Lopeasn there is a commercial area with shops etc and in front of that area are tons of tour boats) Not horrible but something to be aware of. The Melia property has a huge beach front so you can get away from the boats a bit. Lopesan has a much smaller beach front so a bit harder to get away from it. I have been to Secrets RB and it is very nice and in my opinion one of the best bang for your buck hotels in PC and it is a full adults only hotel as opposed to lopesan which is an adult only section.

I have no idea where did you get the “nightlife in Lopesan”. I just came back from staying 8 nights and this was the most boring time ever. Yes, it is exactly the same way you described the other Hotel, “a ghost city at night”, there wasn’t even people in the reception area after 10 pm, insane!. Besides, yes… there was a theater but no air conditioning so the shows were literally empty. Outdoor entertainment were “none”. The night club opens only 3 times a week and only recorded music. Sport bar is only to see sports on the tv and to get drunk alone because it never gets crowded. The same for the coffee spot. Pool and beach were excellent, but no entertainment at all. Cleaning is the worst, bathroom all over the hotel are not clean (buffet, restaurant, common areas, none of them were clean!, “many toilet tops are stained”). Maintenance is definitely not a strength for Lopesan. I was shocked with how many amazing review has this hotel and how disappointed were my family and I when we started seeing all these issues. This shouldn’t be categorized as a 5 stars hotel and It is too pricey. I love Dominican Republic but I wouldn’t go back to Lopesan at all.
I just returned from Lopesan in October. The reason it was a ghostown was because you went during the slow season..as did we. Things start getting busy in January. The housekeeping in the Unique section...which he didn't review...was stellar.
Lopesan has over 27,000 reviews on Google.... when I see massive amounts like that it screams fake reviews. But I trust your review more then those 27k that's for sure.
Did you book for Adults Only all-inclusive or for just the Standard all-inclusive accomodation? What's the difference between the two? are there restaurants and bars that are exclusive to adults only?
I wish you would mention max capacity we are a family of 5 and would really love to be able to know the best hotels with rooms to accomidate. Lopesan only seems to have rooms for 4
Lopesan has a lot of bars but they were all empty when I was there. Maybe I didn't go late enough. Their beach had a bunch of tour boats anchored in the water that ruined the scenery. The waterpark was fun although it needs some maintenance. Nice resort but I would not go back. I would try out Finest. Their room and beach looks nicer.
hmmmm...just checked the reviews and it wasn't that great at Lopesan. A couple of notable ones are the big crowd which caused restaurant reservations booking a challenge, and the beach is only 1' deep so it's not swimmable. I have a pool at home so I am there for the beaches at the resorts. But, it's definitely more affordable. So, it just comes down to personal preferences.
Thanks James for another great video to help me decide on the perfect Punta Cana hotel for my my 20th Anniversary. I had three hotels in my list to choose from - Lopesan, Finest and Excellence Punta Cana. Now, I only have to choose from two - Lopesan and Excellence Punta Cana. It is a difficult decision. I like that Lopesan is newer, closer to the airport, and has an enclosed theater. BUT I don't like that I have make dinner reservations and that it's not a couples only resort. FOR THOSE who had visited both Lopesan and Excellence Punta Cana, which resort will you go for a romantic vacation? HELP PLEASE!
Excellence Punta Cana all the way. I went with my wife in May for our honeymoon and it was amazing, the service is unbelievable and the food you wouldn't believe that is actually from an all inclusive resort. The only downside is that there is not much to do after 1 am so be aware of that if you are a party person.

Hard to say much negative about any Excellence property and Excellence PC is probably a better hotel than Lopesan (although Lopesan is more beautiflul) but the beach at Lopesan is night and day better than Excellence if that is important to you. If you like Excellence properties and want great beach close to airport maybe try Excellence Playa Mujeres. Not to muddy the waters and I absolutely love Punta Cana but Secrets Maroma and Eldorado Maroma are two of the best adult only all inclusives anywhere in the world and Maroma beach is consistently ranked in the top 5-10 beaches in the world (as is Bavaro beach). If your heart is set on Punta Cana and beach is important to you look at Secrets Cap Cana or Secrets Royal beach (which is on Bavaro beach not far south of Lopesan) both are very close to PC airport. Not sure if that helps or hinders you!! lol. As much as resorts like Lopesan try to be adult and family friendly I'd lean toward an actual adult only property for a romantic special occasion. We came because of this review- worst decision ever. The place is boring No pool bar No one from entertainment team even says hello The boulevard is a ghost town, guests are lost because no one is directing them. I wish I had gone back to ocean el faro

I heard the pool is not heated at Lopesan, which is a downer for me - i usually travel during winter time so this is critical.

Lopesan food is good at best. I would give it 3.5 out of 5. The property is newer, thats it.

i've been to both, Excellence is more romantic, Lopesan is for family. Service is much better at Excellence
