As a guitarists I can agree that nothing hurts more than coming up with a great riff and then you try and play it again and cant remember it or it just doesnt sound the same. It sucks so bad lol, so now everytime I practice or jam I have a track recording everything bc you literally never know when some random thing you play is that little seed that can grow into a monster.

I always used to think “if it’s good I’ll remember it” But then once I got a phone and could record things on the fly, I’d come back to things I’d recorded just a couple of days earlier would be really excited by them but would have absolutely no memory of them. It’s like a present from yourself to yourself.

It’s always like that. You come up with the best riffs while you’re out and don’t have a guitar handy. And a lot of the time is part of the rhythm of the moment. So even if you can remember the notes, if you can’t remember the rhythm it’s almost useless.

In early 2002 I was 6 years out of high school and still trying to figure stuff out. My best friend from high school went to IU and got the degree and by that time was living in Chicago working his first real job. One day he calls me and asks if I want to sublet his room in the apartment he had with another young guy. They just weren’t getting along. I was living in Indianapolis and was like I guess why not :). He picks me up literally two hours later because was home for the weekend and boom I’m on my way to Chicago to live haha. I shared a place with some people and it was already crowded so they were like bye bye. Well this place was on Greenview avenue. I was and am a huge SP fan but this was early internet still. So it wasn’t just common to know everything about anything if you wanted to. Anyway long story short I rambled around those streets right there in the same area Billy and the band had as there complete world as I think he put it once only literally a few years earlier. When I found out it was so crazy and I enjoyed hitting the streets even more
