An actual badass Kirk Hammett solo

- This solo has quite a few techniques and whammy tricks. It was just impossible for me to get everything 100% right in one same take so I just left it the way it is lol
Thanks for watching and have a great weekend 🤘

I simply don't understand how some great musicians lose their magic completely over time. Kirk's solos were so creative and authentic on that record, and now he sounds like he could be just any guitarist on the planet.
Secret sauce: James actually plays this solo in the studio
maybe hes just bored and doesnt want to put that much effort into it anymore
@@ZACKSONFIRE No he doesn't not at all,get your facts right
@@nemesis8626 someone can’t see the obvious joke
Age?
Kirk was on fire on this album, all his solos were amazing.
IMO Justice is their best album, definitely my favorite.
Agreed
Lars was on fire too. Epic drum parts forever.
Yes..back at the time when he did not too obsessed using wah
On St Anger his best solos!!!
For those who are wondering: this is the first and second guitar solo of Metallica's song called shortest straw from their fourth studio album ...And Justice for All. If I remember correctly, he also has a video playing the third solo. It's quite unique because its the only solo on AJFA that has wah on it aside from dyers eve. Although they never play that solo live.
They almost never play the song live for a start!
What abt and Justice? I thought the solo had wah
@@Cthulhu_Awaken According to their website, it has only been played 99 times as of today and it was last played at December 17, 2021 in San Francisco. Man like wtf? They can play master of puppets (one of their most difficult songs) on almost every concert but can't play a less difficult song for at least a decent amount of times??
@@coltonherod7915 ohh yeah you're right. It only had wah on the second half though
@@islanublar4561 It's either because of the intro that's in an unusual time signature or because it's not something "the majority of the fans" usually want to see that often.
That tone is filthy good
I always loved the goofy noises in this solo, made it super memorable
It's my favorite Metallica record. When it comes to all-out aggression, speed, technique, and sound... they were on top of their game.
Then Rust in peace came out. . . .and they quit 👀 FAST
I can definitely see how Justice is more technical and aggressive than Puppets but Puppets imo was a more cohesive album, it has a darker sound with the slow sections like The Thing That Should Not Be and Leper Messiah. The composition of the songs also felt more organic and just flowed better, some of the transitions on Justice feel a bit forced like they were trying to be a bit prog for the sake of being prog and it just didnt work as well. Some of the song sections just drag on a little too long or certain sections are repeated too many times just to make the songs longer. Puppets just sounds more polished and better worked out as a whole.
@@maseefweiner5872 and then Rust In Peace came out and stomped both Justice and Puppets.
@@omarrodriguez4237I love RIP but Justice and Puppets are heavier imo, honestly RIP sounds happy af (ignoring lyrics)
@@omarrodriguez4237 I understand what you say, to me their best album is Ride, but i absolutely love Puppets and AJFA, but i have to say, i think AJFA is heavier than MOP, overall. I mean songs like One, Dyers Eve, Frayed Ends, Blackened are just some of their darkest songs, lyric wise and the instrumentals are very heavy too. But emotionally wise, their heaviest song might be To Live Is To Die, only because of Cliff and that extremely sad middle section, AJFA just hits different, it's like they put all of their anger in the songs. Actually kinda like St. Anger.
To kirks defense, his live playing has gotten very crisp over the last few years .
That makes it worse he can bring his old solos back to life at his late age and but puts out not even mediocre but horrible guitar work with his new material
unbased opinion@@adrianfong5783
@@adrianfong5783 Agreed, granted he has nothing left to prove to anyone or anything but his latest work just puts me to sleep. Same pentatonic scales loaded in wah with zero creativity.
you are the main reason i got into guitar back in august and i have come quite a long ways since then i can play most of the songs off of the first 5 albums
Wow thanks a lot dude ! Makes me happy to hear that keep it up 🤘🤘
Every Kirk Hammett solo was badass on the first five albums. But, I will say that this is one of his best.
Love Shortest Straw. Seriously underrated song! Noice solo!
I think Kirk approached how he did his solos a lot differently before the load and reload and I think he worked at his craft more than he does now. Even the solos that sound like they were combinations of different takes sounded more refined in how they were joined together and less clunky than now
Agreed
Yep. He said he would map his solo's out on paper and work front that. He also got Joe Satriani to give him idea's on how he could approach his solo's as far as scales etc.. go. But this was back in the eighties.
Excellent job, especially on the whammy bar! It’s very hard to make that sound authentic, but you nailed it!
One of Kirks best solos
At one stage this was my favourite Kirk Hammett solo. It was the ultimate in lead guitar playing.
what do you mean by ultimate? :P
well played! kirk was a monster back in the day. his recent solos just kinda bum me out.
u performed this so perfectly, my fav solo of all time
Absolute fire. Good job.
Love it as always keep shredding my friend🔥🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Always been one of my favorites if not favorite
This has to be one of my favorite solos. I need to try this out once I get my tempo down!!!!
Dude, you are on fire! Very impressive.

Killer taste bro ! 100%
Amazing! Well done!
Broo this was tight!!!
Wooow perfect
I love how this guys near if not perfectly like Kirk when he plays!🤟🏼
I've always thought this solo is brutally underrated 🤘🤘
Beautiful guitar my friend, gorgeous.
Every solo on this album was so frickin' amazing.
Bro...... moving them fingers and picking those strings....... geez save some awesomeness for the rest of us 💯😎
Well done my man 💪
Great cover🤘
Nailed it!
Awesome! My fav is Frayed
Definitely earned a sub
Nailed it, man, and you aren’t using that much gain either! Killer job
awesome
Because we don't really have like in studio videos of them playing and because I'm not a guitarist it is so amazing to watch what the solos would've looked like in studio and to see kirks genius
I LOVING IT THE GOOD SOLOS!!!🎶🎶🎶❤🥰❤🥰❤🎶🎶🎶
Solid!
i love this solo its one of kirks best imo
WOW Nailed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! perfect!!!! tremelo= perfect!!!
Brilliant mate
Siempre cuando terminan los solos en videos asi me quedo con las ganas de que terminen los ultimos 5 segundos con el riff que sigue
So simple but very effective
I'm just liking the fact that there's BASS in this cover
So Killer. I'm not much of a Kirk fan except for amazing leads like this.
Sweet guitar....great solo...🤙🏼
Back when Kirk cared about his solos
Cool solo bro!
T H E
T O N E
all of them are great, you have to be real fan
Kick ass!
The guitar is so fitting for Kirk as well, or at least the neck
Epic
Note for note that was probably perfect. Well done.
Kirk has written some amazing solos and riffs for the band.
Kirk has played some amazing solos that Mustaine and James wrote.
Only good kirk solo is unforgiven and that one isn't even great
@@homelessman3483 MUSTAINE >>>> Kirk Hammet. Kirk Hammet solos sound constipated
@@sairamr6886 100%
@@homelessman3483 mustaines solos are even worse than kirks
No se trata de un solo super técnico o demasiado rápido, pero queda brutalmente implementado en la canción, kirk sabía perfectamente que hacer en esa época
Nice. Justice is such a great album
I don't know why this was in my recommended, but I'm not complaining.
NICE!
Hell yea
I really dig his solo from Helpless. Until recently I thought he played the original solo, then I realized there was no solo on the o.g. That solo is perfect
Fucking amazing sound i love it respect
Please do the Eye of the Beholder! At one point Kirk repeats a phrase like 5 times-there was a confidence and creativity to these solos!
He has dozens of badass solos.
It’s a shame he went from this to what he does now……..good job dude!
Considered the hardest metallica solo ever, props
Considered by who? Difficulty is subjective. I don't find this solo to be all that difficult, to be honest. There are others in their catalog that are much harder. I would put this in the intermediate range as far as Hammett solos go.
@@pthibault630 By a couple of talented guitarists, it's pretty damn tricky, fast arpeggios, fast pinch harmonics, etc. very wacky and annoying to recreate
@@pwincessiris So you're saying... "A couple talented guitarists" claimed this is the hardest Metallica solo? Firstly, that's pretty vague... and secondly, that still doesn't make it true. This isn't even the hardest solo on the AJFA album.
👍👍👍
Great solo, very aggressive but well composed, the linear lines in staccato reminds me Yngwie but more rough
Shortest Straw Is so much underrated imo
🤘😎🤘
I love shortest straw
WHAT CAMERA DO YOU USE? GREAT COVER BTW!
Sounds like Kirk Hammett on fire
I haven't heard a solo from KH that blew me away since The Outlaw Torn..
fucken sick! i still can't plat that solo half as good!
Best song on AJFA
I agreed this solo f badass
Justice album has some great solos
Also said this was his best
who else knew riff tapes for the shortest straw started before cliff died
Kirks best album
Yaaaas
Great work bro. ..i remember.b4 they turned into nickleback
He was a very solid and inventive lead player...and somewhere after this album or black ...not so much.
He's done many killer solos.
if Kirk wrote that solo today the usual crowd would scoff and roll their eyes at it.
