Trying to clear up the confusion on the starting chain. This pattern works with either a starting chain of 114 or a starting chain of 100 as the multiple is 14+2. (14x7)+2 = 100 (14x8)+2=114 I have several different ripple patterns and use the same video as the purpose is just to explain the stitches used. Sorry for the confusion! The purpose of this video is to demonstrate the process of the peaks and valleys. Hope this clears it up ☺🧶☺
For those wondering the multiples for bigger sized blankets, as stated on the pattern page it's 14 + 2, so whatever multiple of 14 plus the extra 2 chains :)
I taught myself how to crochet a chain, then worked to teach myself how to add to the chain so that I had multiple rows. I have been making single stitch crochet afghans until 2 years ago when I was finally taught how to make a double crochet stitch, I was never taught how to make all the half stitches and triple stitch & so on. I understand that the majority of your watchers are very knowledgeable & that's Great; I hope to one day be that knowledgeable about making afghans as well, I just wish you would have shown how to make a half double crochet stitch in this video. I have always wanted to make a ripple Afghan. Thank You So Much For All The Videos & PDF Patterns. I will see if I can find a video that teaches how to make a half double crochet stitch. 💐
It's been a couple years but I hope you've learned some more at this point! If you're still struggling, Toni of TL Yarn Crafts has some wonderful tutorials that may be of use (even if for a refresher)
Are you having any issues? I wanna attempt this blanket but some people in the comments are saying they’re ending with the wrong amount of dc’s to stitch into it at the end of the row.
I´m started today this project... in violet, white and soft pink... lovely pattern and very easy after made the first road. (I´m sorry if my english isn´t good... kisses from Argentina)
At the end of my second row and I only have 3 chains remaining...not sure how that happened. Even more concerning, is my "waves" are not looking right. Anyone care to help/assist? Wish I could show a pic.
Hi Lauren, I’ve worked this blanket before but am having a hard time staying on track. Can you give me a clue for when I’m coming up to a decrease or increase? What am I looking for in the row below? I’m a very confused crocheter as I’m left handed and learned to crochet right handed and feel a little dyslectic.
Just curious if anyone who has made this blanket has added a border. Working up swatches for a baby blanket. I love adding borders, just makes the blankets look more polished. Thanks!
I am an absolute beginner at crochet so wish that you had slowed down each step. I don't know how to do what you are doing and I wish I could watch This in slow-mo. this is the exact pattern that I want to do. I will look for another video that slows it down.
Hi Lauren. Thanks for this awesome blanket pattern. What are the colors of the PaintBox yarn that you are using? And, do you have a picture of this blanket? Many thanks!!
Love the waves but Just wanted to know why did you change the double stitch to a half double stitch? The instructions on your website doesn’t mention this. Thanks
The first 8 minutes of the video address a traditional ripple... then I go into how to switch to hdc. I have ripple patterns that do both, so I included both in the video.
@@DaisyCottageDesigns I also was wondering this, I think the commenter was wondering more so why switch from a dc to a hdc, aka what's the difference? is it just how it looks? does it look different from being all dc or hdc, vs a mix of both? (as in, is there a reason to switch between the two or will it look the same not switching?) many of us newer crocheters don't understand why things are done so it's helpful to explain, then we can decide what to do if we'd like. without an explanation, people follow whatever is said but knowing the *why*, people can understand better, therefore making them better crocheters. sounds like both ways are similar so if you added "so you can continue this exact stitch or replace dc with hdc, whatever you prefer because of XYZ" I think there would be more understanding. love this tutorial tho, so thank you!
I want to make this baby blanket with a chunky yarn, how many chains will I need to start my proyect? 114 might be to much with this thick yarn. ( Baby Bee Sweet Delight Chunky)
I’m just discovering this pattern and am having the same problems mentioned below. SO frustrating to start over and over and not see where I’m going wrong. I do not end up with 5 stitches to work with at the end. So I can’t do 4 double crochets and then the 2 in the last stitch. I guess I’m ready to give up.
Have a novice question. When you insert hook into the “next stitch”, are you inserting through 1or2 loops?, front and back loop?? Some directions will say front, back, or both. Not sure what the rule is? 😢clarify please. Thank you
Hello! I am trying to do a blanket but only hdc ripples, and extending the distance between, I am trying 12 hdc then increase/ decrease, but I cannot seem to get my increases/decreases to match up, please help!
This question was never answered! 😳🤷♀️🤔 I have been crocheting for many, many years and this pattern does not match the instructions of chaining 100. My rows would not line up with the ones below. I did it exactly how it was written. Redid it too many times to count! Then I watched this video and you said to chain 114- not 100. So, which is right? Please update these instructions on your blog with the correct chains and for the ends. Several have had issues with this. And so do I because my decreases and increases did not match after the third row. 🤦♀️🤷♀️🤔😕 please respond to this question about chains. I get the multiple of 14+2 but you need to correct this for the blog or printed version. Thank you! 😊
I'm so confused. 114 cast on. 5 dbl crochet starting in 3rd space. 1st row ends with 4 spaces that you do 5 dbl crochet in to in total. 2nd row en's with only 2 spaces to dbl crochet in to if I follow the pattern
Love your afghan photos but this video and the audio don't match....video jumps from chain to dc2tog but audio doesn't, so when you're describing the dc2tog, your hands are already showing the 2nd one.....confusing to say the least.

Thank you for clearing this up! I was doing 14x11 then adding 2 each time... instead of 14×11= 154 then only add 2 at the end!

Havent tried this pattern yet. You could ask the creator about problems with pattern.@@taylordavispomerleau
I’ve made so many of your regular ripples. One of my favorite patterns ever. Can’t wait to make one with this little tweak. Love it 😍

Love the pattern. Did I miss what the multiple is and the size of the blanket on the blog? Would love to know. Thanks.
you always make the best and beautiful blankets, you just go to fast for me ..lol.

You can slow it down on RUclips- in settings - top right hand corner

Just discovered you. Very Beautiful work. could you please bring your camera in closer or your work farther in. Little hard to see details. Thank You
Are you going through the whole loop, front loop, back loop?

I’ve had to restart this project a few times too! Sometimes I missed a stitch, other times I miscounted my stitches. 😂
I think we are supposed to chain 114 not 100 the pattern is not the same as she’s describing
Either will work. Multiples of 14+2 work for the pattern.@@wendyc7690
Just curious as to why it's ch2 & not ch3 which would be the same height as a DC?
Can you do a tutorial on a half double crochet chevron afghan?
Hi I bought the pattern and it says chain 100 to start but noticed that in the tutorial video you say 114. which is right
My printed pattern also says 100 not 114 ,
My pattern (purchased June 2023) says starting chain is 114.
Have a novice question. When you insert hook into the “next stitch”, are you inserting through 1or2 loops?, front and back loop?? Some directions will say front, back, or both. Not sure what the rule is? 😢clarify please. Thank you
Have you checked the pattern for this blanket on her blog?
This pattern is worked under both loops.

Hi, Colleen. Could you shoot me an email? lauren.daisycottage@gmail.com? I'll see if I can help you figure it out.
Will the end of the row always end in 4 DC and then the one stitch after that has 2DC?
So the last 5 stitches of each row are 4DC then 2DC in one chain
Hi! Your pattern on Pinterest says to chain 100 but your video says to start with 114. Which one is correct? Thank you!
Did you work out whether it’s 100 or 114 ?

I'm wondering that too!!

@@rebeccahenriksen4443 I see your email. Just responded. 🫶🏻
My ripples don’t seem very pronounced. Does it take many rows to see it?
Maybe you are used to a chevron which has very pointed up and down sections. This is a gentle ripple so it’s like a gentle wave.
What size hook r u using?
Will this pattern work if I chained 86?
Yes. 14x6=84 +2=86
You never say what hook size so I will use my j hook
My pattern says use a J hook.
She says it at the very beginning of the video 😅

Just simply say, ‘IN SAME SPACE AS THE TURNING CHAIN’. Tons of book directions have stated it for eons. Why can’t you???????
One, let her do her. Two, just ignore it. If you don't understand it, Google it.
I mean if you've got tons of books and you're telling her how to narrate her own patterns then I'm surprised you even needed to watch this.
You need to calm down 😂
