imho...familiarizing yourself with the studio version first. really brings out how great the different take on Salival truly is. not just a couple listens, and then Salival. really sit with the studio version, get to that point of anticipating Danny's drum break, and Adam's solo, and the fear scream. THEN, be vulnerable, and meet them on the other side.

That was an awesome Freudian slip. If ever there were a lead drummer, Danny Carey would be it. By design, he's not always the one simply holding things down. Quite often, he's dancing around what everyone else is doing, or even mimicking the other instruments in the band, albeit in an embellished way that only octopi can fathom.

Also, as a Tool fan of many years, it's always a huge pleasure seeing anyone who's having their first/early experiences with their catalog, and only more so when the person listening is knowledgeable about music and has broad experience of their own, like yourself. yeah honestly mate I first got into them about 2 years ago, and sometimes that dumb ass thought in the back of my mind comes up "are they really as good as you make them out to be?". I listen to ANY of their songs and I'm instantly reassured that I'm not overblowing them. this band is absolutely PHENOMENAL. they are the R9 Ronaldo of music

    • @grntbggr126
      @grntbggr126 Год назад +8

@@TsmithJustin It's tough to say that Tool is the GOAT, but they are certainly on the Mt. Rushmore of prog. or prog,-adjacent bands, like Zepplin, Rush, and Floyd. They have the right balance of musical complexity, popularity, and legacy. There are certainly bands that are more complex or bands that have better individual musicians, but usually they are too esoteric for a wider audience. There are certainly bands that are more popular and more prolific, but they lack the musicianship, composition, and affect. And there maybe bands that also strike the balance between quality and quantity, but they rarely have the longevity and legacy that Tool has built. So Tool has this highly illusive combo of being at the forefront of musicianship and composition, relatable and popular enough to claim a corner of the popular market, and have been around long enough to see their style evolve while still retaining a core identity and recognizable sound. Very hard to do all three, and among the few bands that do, Tool is probably the only band still making records.

Every time I hear Tool songs I go to this timeless place in my heart and mind where I'm feeling the music so deeply that it becomes an emotional moment. Some memories I have tied to these songs are as mundane as watching a cloud go by out the window while listening to the slowed down drums in the middle of the song. But damn, I remember that cloud and that memory tied to this song 15 years later like it's imprinted on me.
hope you listen to these in your car and zone out and get to have great / mundane memories associated with them too. Cheers!

Youre making some good Tool choices. They have so many great non-radio tracks, and most of the Aenima album is a gem. During the Aenima era, Maynard was on a trip about his vocals being "just one of the instruments," so that's why the vocals are embedded in the song the way they are (lower mix). PS: you shoulda grabbed the words. Also in this video your sound mix was off. The music was too quite vs the dialogue. Nbd. 😊

Back in the late 90's I got on WinMX to expose myself to different genres of music. At the time I was really into "Global" or "Downtempo" music. I came across a guy who had a bunch of Tool music; which I was aware of, but had never spent the time to familiarize myself with. I was pulling a couple of tunes from AIC when he asked me if I'd heard of Tool. I responded and he said, if you haven't heard 'Pushit' grab it and let me know what you think. I listened to it and was instantly hooked. I kept thinking, what incredible composition, musicianship, power and lyrical depth. From that moment on I was a Tool fan.

I love that you’ve picked up on the multiple meanings of the lyrics. Tool rarely provides lyrics to their songs, wanting people to experience their music and figure out for themselves what the meaning is. Maynard very much likes to sing things in a way that allow for double and triple interpretations. He invites us to use our minds and go along a journey of discovery.
Tool is a band you can listen to and each time find something new, be it lyrical or musical, to appreciate.

I think what really makes bands like Tool, and other artists of their ilk, is that each member of the band innately understands when to step forward, in the track, and when to lay back in the cut and lay a groove, or baseline. A lot of bands try so hard to do this, and it ends up being a jumble, or cacophony, of sound. Almost too pretentious. Tool truly are masters of their craft, and masterful musicians. I have seen you react to numerous songs from Tool now, and think you are truly grasping their genius, and how you appreciate the musicianship. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you now react to the band Opeth, from Sweden. I would recommend you start with the song “Reverie/Harlequin Forest” or the classic “Blackwater Park”, to start. Would be very interested in your take on this incredible artist. They aren’t Tool, but are equally masterful in their songwriting and ability to create atmosphere and emotion with their music. You’re welcome! 🙏🏼🙏🏼

All songs are 10 and you are a part of the family and will forever be protected by the spiral of enlightenment and the Tool army. If you really want the full experience, just pull up the lyrics on your phone and stick to these studio tracks like this. Trust me it makes a difference before you get too deep.

This song will always remind me of my first Tool concert experience, and really drilled into me that a Tool concert is an experience. We were in the lawn area enjoying the show when all around me, guys literally started pushing each other and a mosh pit opened. I was in the center of all these guys, when all of a sudden I felt someone envelope me in a bear hug from behind. He maneuvered me outside of the chaos, and disappeared before I could get my bearings to turn around and thank him. It's one of my most lasting memories of going to see a show.

My favorite song, I still get chill bumps when I listen to it. Great reaction. You may want to try their live version of Pushit, while it’s still fresh in your mind. Live and a bit different approach.

It is a triple entendre! You got it right the one you were about to say is "PUT SHIT on me" that's what I always heard my first 10 listens, but it dawned on me afterwards.

See also the RUclips channel "rappers react" and witness their journey into Tool. They started kinda silly, but as they journeyed, their minds were blown over and over again. Keep doing Tool. You won't regret it. And you haven't even really started.

I went to bed before this posted but excellent choice. Can't go wrong with any Tool song. You should listen to the live version of this because it's different enough.

So fun facts: 1st, you should react to the live version of him and putting a fan in a hold singing this song live and never missing a beat. Lol, it's very funny and awesome. Anyway 2 Maynard the singer is the singer of Three Bands Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer (All very different) Tool is all 4 are equals, A Perfect Circle is Billy's Band Originally. Billy was in Smashing Pumpkins, and Puscifer is Maynards baby he is free to express himself fully no limits. You have to listen to all of them. 3 He has a winery. 4 He is also very high up in jujitsu martial arts. 5 He also had a book. 6 He has a strong love for comedy as well. He's a man of many talents. Adam is not only an awesome guitar player but he also does special effects makeup and claymation. Did work for some pretty big moves as well. Danny is in several bands as well.

Ive said it before, but tool is a band comprised of a lead drummer, his cojoined bassist, a stunt guitarist and backing vocals. All of which are true masters in their field

One of my favourite songs of all time and one of Tool's best and yet... somehow... impossibly, the live version of this song is even better. They completely re-imagined/re-conceptualised it and it's... well, it's breathtaking. I HIGHLY recommend you check it out for the channel. Great reaction btw!

Check out 46/2. One of my favorites. Also. Wait until you realize all their albums are modeled after Pink Floyd, meaning, all songs end and begin so they flow right into each other like a whole experience.

His vocals are usually always mixed low or in the back. It’s because he sees himself / his vocals as another instrument. He doesn’t consider himself a front man he’s just another member of the band. It’s done with intent for sure.
    Great reaction man!

you made a comment about Tool approching each songs differently and it's absolutely right. That's also why I find it hard to choose my favorite Tool song, because there're so different. My favorite song varies depending of my mood and the type of energy and overall experience I'm looking for at that particuliar time. You still have so many great ones to react to, here's a list I'm suggesting in no particular order : Prison Sex, Bottom, Vicarious, Jambi, Stinkfist, Eulogy, H.,Hooker With A Penis, Jimmy, Schism, Parabol/Parabola, The Grudge, Ticks & Leeches, Right In Two, The Patient, Lateralus, Disposition/Reflection/Triad, Third Eye, Fear Inoculum, 7empest, Invincible, Descending, Culling Voices, and when you're ready for something really out of the ordinary Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned.
