My husband and I are moving house, so we're getting our house ready for the real estate pictures. It's surprising how much stuff we have when I claim to be a minimalist. I'm trying to adopt some of the Nordic ways of living and hope our next home will look more organized and minimalist!
But having a house ready for real estate pics and open houses is just not practical. I find homes like that are very cold and uninviting. Yes, you want to take down any personal pictures and very style specific pics and decor that wouldn’t appeal to the vast majority of people. We sold our homes by ourselves. And sold quickly. I think we did a better job showing our own home and it saved us and the buyers extra money not having to dole out thousands of dollars to someone who has never lived in my home or had kids go the local schools etc. 😊
Great video. Especially impressed with the idea of taking pictures of your outfits. Now I have two things I do: (1) NEGOTIATE. I have a monthly bill of $400. I negotiated that to where I get the 12th month free if I pay the entire amount on January 1. I make that one of my savings funds. Takes awhile to get it set up since you need to have that bucket of money to work with. The second thing I learned helps me deal with miscellaneous tasks that I tend to put off, such as cleaning the filters of my water purifier. It always seemed like a big chore until I actually timed it once. Took about 15 minutes. Big deal. So I starting thinking of other small jobs - not necessarily things I would put off, but things I could do when I had 10 minutes while waiting for somebody. That sort of thing. Sweeping the back outside stairs. That sort of thing. Don't waste those bits of time.
Hey Jennifer, I hope 2025 is going well for you so far 😊 I loved all of these ideas, the one that resonated with me the most though was about multitasking. I heard someone say that you can multitask but you can't multi focus & this is so true! As someone who has a Neurodivergent brain, I tend to start many tasks & struggle to focus instead of concentrating on just one which is always more productive ❤️
#16 is an amazing way to save money. When I have an urge to “get something new” I make a new outfit from things I already have. Mix and matching works wonders as well playing with accessories. Great video to kick start 2025 🎉
When I worked, i would write down my outfit on my calendar. Then when I came back to the first outfit I would wear it either a different top. This way, you can optimize your wardrobe.
I store all my photos, including those I scanned from original photos and those digitized from negatives in folders - first by year. Then, within each year, there are folders for every date that there’s a photo and I name the folder with tags like the place we went, if it’s a birthday, Christmas, our cat, etc. For older scanned photos, I have folders named things like “Life in Florida” or “Life in Chesapeake” or “Dawn College.” This makes it easy to find a photo, but my kids will also know where all the photos were taken - the name of a park, an amusement park, a special kayak place. I’ve also started taking photos of signs when my husband and I hike or visit places because the sign photo in the same folder helps tremendously.
As a working/homeschool mom, I like the 3 item to-do list idea! There are days where I get just one thing done and feel like a failure with 5-10 things on my list. Maybe if I move the amount to 3 easy things, I’ll be more likely to get those done.
When cleaning off the kitchen counters is: always start in the same spot, work around in the same direction. By doing this, I already know the ending spot so as I go and pick up random items, when I'm done, all the items can be put away. Another is, since I was a kid my mom impressed, don't go up or downstairs empty handed and put things away immediately.
We continue to declutter things here and there that aren't serving a purpose, and our basement clutter. When we go to use something like a phone charger and it doesn't work, we pitch it right then. If the container is full, we don't buy more.
Such great reminders throughout the video! I successfully managed to keep my home tidy by sticking to a low visible clutter rule and doing a daily 10-minute pick-up-and-put-away routine with the 1-touch rule-it's amazing how much it reduces end-of-day tasks. This year, I’m aiming to improve my freezer organization to cut down cooking time by prepping and stocking up on essentials like meat and other pricier items when they’re on sale. Thanks for the inspiration to stay on track with these goals!
I started to declutted by reorganizing my pantry, I took inventory with expiration dates on my cellphone phone memo pad. Helps with planning meals and shopping list.
In January, I set up a folder for tax statement etc that you need for the accountant. If it's digital, make a folder on your phone. Also, in a memo pad, make a note of what came in and what you are still waiting for.
Thank you for more wonderful tips! Today I am tackling paper. I already put things in the recycle bin before I get to the front door and have paperless billing, but I don't schedule regular times to go through that basket that eventually overflows.
I like the idea of texting myself. I didn’t think of that. And I also think I need to put a reminder on when I call my “parking spot of notes”, things I need to do. I don’t check them enough.
This is very helpful to stay mindful and put these tools and resources in action! Thank you so much! Great way to stay efficient in 2025 for our household and family.❤
Wow! Love the idea of creating seperate albums for pics on the phone (I'm always scrolling..looking..😂) and the one about texting yourself about reminders. I've already started implementing both of these. Thank you Jennifer!
You're a very organized person!! I can't seem to get my papers organized. I have papers that need shredded, some that need trashed, and important papers that have to be kept. I just can't keep up with it. Where do people keep their important papers and documents? Mine are in boxes and bags in closets, cabinets, and drawers.....what to do? After all these years, I'm just tired of all the papers that come into our home!
I finally got myself a file cabinet. Color-coded and labelled folders. Each drawer has a theme. It's definitely a slow process going through all my "Doom Boxes" to get it all put away but it's so nice and it'll be even nicer once it's all done. All in one neat, behind closed doors, place. Tip: keep a shredder handy. There's a lot I HAVE TO keep (Never *ever* get rid of the essential paper copies of certain things. Have digital backups, but don't ditch the paper ones thinking it'll be good enough to simply have it digital. You may find yourself very wrong. Don't ask how I know...email yourself pdfs, keep copies on flash drives, etc. But never ditch the really crucial physical papers.) but it's astounding how much trash got dumped in with the important stuff. Seriously. So much trash. My poor shredder has taken quite a beating. Edit: fixed a thing
We take a picture or scan the cover of any manuals for small appliances or other purchases. Before scanning we notated cover with where, when purchased and for how much. This goes into cloud based folder called inventory. Will be very helpful, if we ever have an insurance claim. If I do happen to need to refer to the manual info that I discarded, you can find almost all manuals online. And bonus is, I got rid of a crammed file cabinet. Yay!
Good morning - half way through (need to step out but will watch the rest) wanted to comment something to note, most if not all of these tips are zero cost. I think sometimes people get overwhelmed in the cost of being organized, containers and fancy programs etc, sometimes, a notebook and cleaning out your purse can be so freeing and costs so little!
I named one of savings accounts “holidays.” I will put in a certain amount each month, based on what I’ve totaled based on how much we budget to spend on everyone.

I have a big problem keeping up with cleaning. My kids will do extra chores sometimes to earn money, which gets my toilets and countertops clean most of the time. But the other things like the floors or showers get left out a lot and it’s hard to keep up. I try to schedule it out but doesn’t always get done due to being exhausted. Maybe I should try doing those things before work in the morning so I don’t keep putting them off 🤔

Hi Mary, I would suggest first just going through them to see what you still need to keep. Then go through to see if you have multiple books on the same subject and select the best. Take it in stages. Best of luck!
I homeschooled for 20 years. I stored mine by subject and then more detailed after that. History was broken down into American and World and generally worked chronologically with general reference at the beginning of the row. For science, by discipline and for animals, I had them divided into vertebrate/invertebrate and then more specific if from there. I had a cabinet for educational games, manipulatives, etc. I sold things as I was sure we were finished with them.
