Get a USB stick (It needs to be either Fat or Fat32) Put the system pup on the USB stick in a folder: Create a folder called PS3 on it then put a folder called UPDATE in that PS3 folder you just created. Download the system update from Sony's site. It's a PUP file. Place it in the UPDATE folder. Plug the USB thumb drive into the PS3 and power it on. When you get that message hit select and start at the same time and it should work fine. You don't even need to go into safe mode. If you're staring at that screen you can hit Start and Select and the system will seek out the USB storage and find the file if you did everything right.

I tried a USB memory stick, which is 2GB. I downloaded the the system software update in there and tired to update it on my ps3 system. For some reason, it didn't work. Is 2GB a right amount for me to download the new system update? Please anybody or anyone. I'm stuck!
I have restarted, updated the system, rebuild the system , everything on that list and nothing works. Its best to buy a whole new ps3 period or a new drive. Imagine when the ps4 do the same thing..... oooooh boy. The better they make electronics they worst it gets when problems hit.

okay, so i just got this ps3. No history on it whats so ever. it turns on and says this system cannot be run correctly. Telling me i have to update it to 4.60 or over. i tried to update it on 2 usb flash drives formatted to phat32. with the correct folder pathway (PS3-UPDATE-(firmware file). i kno its not the flash drive because it worked on 3 other ps3s. And the file isnt corrupted because im using the same file. Ive tried the newest ofw all the way down to the oldest( i know crazy right thought it could work) i took the hdd out and switched it with one that was running newest ofw. didnt do nothing but when i put it back in my other ps3 it got the same error code but i was able to put a usb in and update it no problem. when i try to do the same to the other ps3 it gets stuck at checking. I try to rebuild the data base in safe mode but it says storage cannot be acessed. it freezes in safe mode to somtimes unless i restore the system. ive put the hdd into a working ps3 running newest firmware and reformated it but i dont want to update it because its not 4.60 and i think ill realky screw myself then. i dont have a adapter to fully wipe the drive and reformat it so i want to do it on another ps3 but i dont have nun running 4.60. Have your USB plugged in the computer. Go to My Computer right click your storage device which is the USB. Scroll down to Format. Once a new window pops up set FAT32 to FAT and the allocation size to default instead of 64 kilobytes or something. Continue in my fourth step.

It might be overheating... You will need to clean the inside... Also clean the disc drive... there are plenty of videos on your tube that will show you how to clean your system...good luck

You need to format the hard drive, go to the control panel help screen and format it from there. then update the software. if this doesn't work, try it 2 or 3 times. if it doesn't work then, your hard drive is corrupted and needs replacing.
StoneZ Raps your hard drive is either dusty so all you need to do is blow the dust from hard drive (be very careful with it & only pick it up from the sides) leave it out for 30 min then put it back in. If that doesn't work you need a new hard drive

the good thing is if ur a playstation plus member you can restore your saved game files in the saved data utility in the game list
