    I love the top of your bookshelf! So much fun with the books and friends. I have the brightly colored Lego wildflowers in a pretty teal blue pitcher by my kitchen sink! Your videos are really helpful and I love to listen to your explanations. ❤

    I think I am the person you were talking about that commented on your 9th grade video. I am glad you found everything and I hope it works out great! Thanks for the reasoning behind why you didn't think lang. lessons would work. My son really struggles with his memory so I think it would be the same issue for him. This helps me a lot! Now I have to figure our ELA out!! 🤔

      I'm so glad it was helpful. I was afraid I was rambling on too much, but I do like to explain why I make the choices I do. And thank you for that constructive feedback that got me thinking!

    Okay so…. My 14yo son sounds so much like your daughter. We also are doing IEW 1B and he does better with the structure of writing but it can be a little overwhelming with everything it expects (lack of creativity). I was researching and found a curriculum called Write by Number which can be used alongside other writing curriculum. It teaches the foundations of writing and grammar at the same time while allowing your child be creative. She has a video here on YT and there is also a 14day free trial that doesn’t make you put your cc info in 😊

      Yesss!! I’m doing exactly this with my 14 year old son as well. We took a break from IEW and have been working on Write by number the last few months. It’s been going really well. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they start with a first power sentence and then add 1-2 sentences each stage.

    Thanks for the video update and the recap at the end. Can you share how you used LOF as a spine for Pre Algebra. We supplement with it when we need a break from regular math. However, I’m really interested in using it as a spine.

      I bought the Pre-Algebra 0/1/2 books, and he just worked through them every day. I did buy the supplement books with zillions of practice problems as well.

    IEW was exactly what helped my daughter with ADHD. My neurotypical daughter hated it, but my ADHD daughter went from not being able to write a paragraph to writing 3 paragraph research papers FOR FUN… we just went back to IEW for the remainder of the year with her as what I picked this year didn’t work for her at all. Hopefully it will help your daughter as well.

    I've been homeschooling since the 90's and I've tried just about every writing program out there EXCEPT IEW- I went as far as to buy the whole package one year and then sent it back without ever using it. Until this year- We started the year with Write Shop Jr. for the younger kids and Write Shop for my older daughter and it was a disaster. They had more room for creativity but much less structure and they were lost. I would get blank stares. So I decided to finally give IEW a serious try and ordered 1B like you. We've only gotten to lesson 10 taking our time but all 3 of them have done amazing with it. I think part of it was the checklists- they had to figure out how to include everything. And as much as I thought there would be no room for creativity, that's actually not true. once they were introduced to all the initial rules they were allowed to switch things up or add creative elements, and the last few we did, I think 8, 9 and 10 were Write with Pictures which was complete creativity yet they still had the structure of the rubric to guide them. I was very pleased with it!! I'd love to continue to hear about your experience with it. I'd also love to hear more about the Life of Fred grammar books- I bought a bunch of Easy Grammar stuff for my upcoming 12th grade son who's ADD/dyslexia and ended up sending it all back to Rainbow Resource because it looked like way too much to add to his already large workload.

    Great video! I have a daughter who's 16 and another who is 14 and I have often wondered if we've got trouble with working memory, ADHD, and dyslexia.
    I'm wondering about testing them but I'm not even sure where to start and I've heard it's pretty expensive do you have any tips you can share or possibly a video to point me to? I don't know that having a designation will change anything, but it could be helpful.

    • @homeschoolteenswithjenny
      @homeschoolteenswithjenny  2 месяца назад +1

      It’s definitely helpful in that you know what you’re dealing with so you can better help them. It is extremely expensive…. Most of our places don’t take insurance anymore :( You would want to find an educational psychologist to do the testing.

    My youngest, just finished 6th grade, heard you say "who reads a text book for fun." She replied "I do!" Lol
    My girls are a mix of what you have. My oldest, going into 10th grade, is similar with retention plus has dyslexia but is very artistic. My youngest has ADHD but wants everything matter of fact. She doesn't like extra fluff in her learning.
