    We love Rod & Staff English but they cover most grammar concepts by 8th grade. You could remediate by backing up to 5th grade for a good foundation. It’s lower cost and takes less than a year to complete. I do many lessons orally to keep lessons short. You could skip diagramming but it helps organize thinking about sentences.

    I hope you have success with the MCT grammar. Though I have only ever seen it used with gifted students. My sister uses it.

    Grammar is a struggle for my 15 year old son. He has ADHD as well. We tried Fix It Grammar also, didn’t make it very far. Textbooks are a struggle here too and I’m new at this so I’ll take any advice I can get. I’m really appreciating your channel.

      @@Sancho.jd2 I’m so glad the channel is helpful. I will be updating my ELA approach in an official video soon… I’ve discussed it some in my livestream weekly updates. I watched a very helpful video from Masterbooks last week from the authors of the LLFLE high school series that helped give me a fresh perspective and approach.

    I’m happy to hear my son isn’t the only one who has a rough time with Fix It grammar. He started struggling by week 4. He’s also a rising 9th grader. I’ll have to look more into MCT (it’s been on my list for a couple of years). Thank you so much for your video!

    Great lineup for next year! Love that you're keeping simplicity in mind as you plan. Seems so easy to keep adding all the things that look so good, and then feel overwhelmed and burned out trying to keep it all going, and get through everything. Your curriculum choices look so interesting! Blessings on your upcoming year...❤

      thank you! Yes, I need simplicity this coming year with us doing college tours and visits and all sorts of crazy stuff! LOL

    I agree 100% with you about taking it slow and enjoying the moments! Time doesn’t stand still for anyone! This year and last year God showed me the same. Things happened that I couldn’t ever have imagined happening and it’s weird but I’m thankful for that because sometimes we don’t realize it until it’s too late ❤ I loved this video and thank you 🙏🏽

    Have you ever used Easy Grammar? That one is super masterly based. Is one of my favorites.

    • @homeschoolteenswithjenny
      @homeschoolteenswithjenny  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I have. My son uses that and does well with it, but my daughter did not.

    We used MCT Grammar Island for my 4th grader who used Abeka before that. Grammar Island helped her so much. She loved the way grammar was taught in story form. My only suggestion would be to use Practice Voyage after you complete section one of grammar voyage. Don't wait until the end of the book. Also, gifted just means teacher intensive...haha!

    Great choices!! My kids also find textbook style learning boring. We moved away from Notgrass history and thos upcoming year will use Guest Hollow. It looks fantastic.
    My daughter loves ASL and has taken for 2 years in coop 6th and 7th grade. Sadly her hopeful career path does not recognize ASL as a foreign language credit so we are moving to BJU Spanish 1 for 8th grade. Which will count for HS credit.

    This was such an awesome video! We use Berean builders for upper middle school and high school science, but I love that your son and daughter are doing chemistry together! My sophomore is doing chemistry this year and my 6th grader is doing Masterbooks Elements of Faith which is their middle school chemistry curriculum that goes through the periodic table. My younger daughter would wake up early this year and sit through her sister’s biology course sometimes so I can see her doing that this year also to get a little extra science in! Especially when we have labs. Also, I am so excited that you shared the ASL course. I could see my youngest choosing ASL for her high school foreign language. And I kind of want to take it myself! It looks amazing.

    Can you share what credits your student will have on their transcript once these courses are completed? It is helpful to know the name of “class/subject” too. For example, you mentioned the 2 Tuttle Twins books, are those for a Logic credit? Half credit? Simply literature so will be part of English credit, etc.
    Do you grade their work? What determines a final grade, completion of resources used? Or tests? Etc. Maybe you have a video on grading and transcripts already. Going to check your videos. 😊

    Thank you! I have a 9th grader with ADHD. I was considering Master Books Language Lessons 9 but I see you are adding quite a bit to it. Would it just be easier to do the grammar & vocab extras and then add lit and writing? I am worried the MB will not be enough but I don't want to add a bunch to it. Thanks for your input!!!

      Funny you ask.... we had a "moment" this week in our homeschool with LLFLE7, and it brought some major things to my attention. I am changing it away from LLFLE9... stay tuned! New video next week on that!
