  • The Beast Of The East-Is It The Honda Pioneer 1000-5 Limited Edition, Kawasaki Teryx4 LE, Polaris General 4 1000, Or Yamaha Wolverine X4? We went to Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA) in Coal Township, Pennsylvania, where the trails can be tight, technical, and challenging, to test the best multi-passenger family adventure rigs on the East Coast. We broke down the evaluation into 20 separate categories, where each machine was rated on a scale of 1 to 5. Here’s how it all went down. See the full 2018 Rec-Ute UTV Comparison at UTVDriver.com.

Just bought a 21 Teryx le today for country cruisin and trails. Its comfortable and a good price. It is loud in the cabin and brakes are mushy but adequate enough with engine breaking. Had considered the can am x3 turbo r, but this kawi is more family friendly and suits our needs fine, got the wife to ok a krx purchase next to supplement our off-roading adventures, so far love the Teryx

2 major differences that the Honda Pioneer 1000-5 LE has over the rest of them is the 6 speed tranny. With 6 hi and 6 low. (No Belts to burn up on the trail!) and it comes with Honda's I4WD which is an AMAZING system! I Own this exact model of Pioneer and can tell you from first hand experience that it is a BEAST! With the I4WD system it handles the Camso tracks with ease. I have done stuff snow machines have a hard time doing.

My family has had a 2012 Teryx 750 since new. I can honestly say they do rock on the trails specially the early ones being so utility driven too with the bed, hitch, and what seemed like a overly built frame and suspension components. Yeah it was burning oil from day one but it really handled well on trails, it was mostly used for yard work and it idled for half of its life In the hundreds of hours before it finally went boom last year. The thing I love most about the Teryx was it wasn’t some crazy wide machine, like the early Rzr800s it is something that is still nimble and skinny enough for your average atv trails.

I can only speak for the General 4, which is a blast to drive and very useful with the separate dump box. The headlights are terrible, but are a direct swap for RXR XP LEDs (and minor wire splicing) made a huge difference in addition to the 42" lightbar I had. And the review was correct, it is a BUS on tight trails. I definitely had to turn later in the corners to make sure I didn't side swipe the trees. It was also more cumbersome for snow plowing as it wasn't as agile, but it did a great job. It is what it is. You will have those challenges with a Crew. I would buy another, but I am eager to try the others that are in this review.

I have owned Honda's and my brother liked Yamaha , he could FIX JUST ABOUT anything . He also liked Yamaha and Kawasaki. I haven't owned a Polaris but I see a lot of people buying them so I guess it comes down to your individual taste needs or you may be loyal to a specific brand like me I love old Honda's and most of the old brands are really reliable if you do good maintenance. I agree the general didn't fit into this category either this should have just been a comparison of a Teryx 4 Wolverine X4 and a Pioneer 1000 5 simply because of the obvious they are all compact multi-passenger machines the general is the size of a bus!!!!

You're missing out. Worked at a Honda and Yamaha dealer for years. The Yamaha atvs and sxs outclass the Honda in every way. Rebuilt many Hondas, never rebuilt a Yamaha. In the two years I was a mechanic Hondas with electronic shift were always coming in with problems. I rebuilt 3 Honda pioneer subtrans. The recalls on Honda outnumbered Yamaha close to 10:1. The only time Yamahas came into the shop was for service and tires and the occasional repair. Hondas were about half service and half repair. Honda is a good manufacturer, but miss the mark on a lot of things nowadays.

@@truspirit1925 hey if there is one thing I can understand, it's loyalty. We need more of it in the world today. I would agree on the generator as well. We sold those also and the Yamaha generator comparison to comparison (2000w) to the Honda was better in every way except one. I will say that comparing the 2000w generator, the Honda was 10x easier to get the carb off and on than the Yamaha. But if you're properly storing you're off season fuel, it won't matter anyway. If you ever find yourself in the market for another machine, consider looking at the Yamaha. You might find your next 1999 Honda but it's got a Yamaha badge instead. God bless.

Music is terrible vs letting us hear the machine work
They nit pick one machine for a issue not the other like kawi space is limited but the Honda has legit big fat 0 space when all 4 seats up the kawi is the cheapest and best warranty off the lot the general is the most expensive and largest machine.... You had a great course to show us these machine but huge let down a 4 seater review is legit give us 4 people in the machine let's see knees grab bars maybe cup holders the squat ground clearance issues handling

Fastest on the trail. This is the East Coast winner, where all that extra HP that bus of a 4-seater becomes useless. Its ground clearance is fine when you consider it fitted with equal-size tires as the rest and that wheel-to-wheel distance has a BIG factor in usable clearance. Having an extra inch of clearance doesn't matter when your wheels are a bus-length apart from each other. The General is the slowest when it breaks down from your reverse chain blowing out.
