Never even realized that part of the civil rights movement was headed on by the backs of black children in the 60's. The more you freakin' know. Let's go Birmingham students! It's crazy how something so physical and exposed has to be in order to enact change.

Sadly, it was likely him and other elements of a partially corrupt FBI that had Dr. King killed. Just like the Kennedys, we may never know the actual facts over what "The FBI" has told us that "happened". It seems that a large faction in Washington wants to continually massage the American mindset.

I've been a teacher for 3 years and I read The Youngest Marcher by Cynthia Levinson to my students (3rd-5th graders, in Special Education for Social-Emotional Support, all boys) during Black History Month - It always makes an impact. My students have some of the most insightful discussions about this book and the book Henry's Freedom Box by Ellen Levine. They're non-fiction and both books introduce them to other players in Black History who are not just MLK, Ruby Bridges, Rosa Parks, and Harriet Tubman - They already know those stories from Kinder/1st/2nd grade.

Okay... I might just be stupid. But I never realized those infamous pictures of civil rights protesters getting attacked by dogs and fire hoses were KIDS?? I'd always assumed they were young adults, but to learn that these children were subjected to some of the most famous recorded instances of police brutality is disturbing.
