I had a prostate mri about a month and a half ago. I had 3 lesions showing about a 3 on a scale of 1-5. Two days ago I had a prostate biopsy done. I will find out next week the results. To all men….don’t mess around with this. Don’t wait. Stay on top of your health. Stay on top of your prostate unless you want to wear diapers or have a catheter inserted.

Scored a 8.9 on PSA test which is double the norm of 4. MRI done this week showed 2 on the PI-RAD scale which is Low (clinically significant cancer is unlikely to be present). I've to go back in 3 months but thank God for the MRI machine as the alternatives were uncomfortable.

@@dragonflyjones5146 MRI is a very noisy machine and not for people who suffer from claustrophobia, albeit you won't go in as far as your head. Takes about 45-50 mins and is painless. Good luck. Interested to hear how you get on. I was prescribed a drug to help prostate, sold my bike to take pressure off that area and am due back soon for a follow up PSA and MRI.

Just had an MRI 10-18-23 it was the most relaxing thing i ever done they placed earphones on playing country music and placed a warm blanket over me that felt great the machine made loud bumbing noises but it almost put me to sleep. My Urologist said the results came back good no spots or suspicious places on my prostate but i have already had a biopsy and two core samples came back positive the results were Gleason score of 6 psa was 4.9 really thinking about having prostate removed Urologist sent the samples off to look at it on the molecular scale and he said it came back as a very very low grade cancer but it still causes me a great deal of worrying so I think I will have my prostate taken out and be done with it.

I have the exact Gleason score and PSA and am on active surveillance. Out of 14 core samples one was cancerous, so very low-grade cancer. I wonder why you're thinking of having your prostate taken out vs. active surveillance/

First attempt on MRI failed as I panicked. 2nd time a success. Bigger machine, wider tube that was lit inside, earphones playing a radio station and head was just outside of machine. The noises machine made were loud but calming. Managed to lay here completely relaxed and 'sort of remained on the borderlines of awake/asleep. Was aware of what was going on, could see front of machine, and the ceiling and lights in the room. I think I also drifted into a dream as towards end of MRI thought I'd been outside walking around near a road. Biopsy followed few days later and didn't find it as painful as I thought it might have been. The biopsy gun occasionally gave me a bit of a sensitive jolt feeling. The pricks of the needles giving me the local anasthetic were ones I noticed the most but otherwise fairly OK with it. I was put into a similar position to a woman who is giving birth. Also nurses would talk to me and try to distract me and hold my hand or arm gently. Believe it or not, my small amount of fear or worry when in the biopsy room was the thought of being still for a period of time.

Because the MRI has difficulty detecting smaller cancer spots, many urologists really push a biopsy even if the MRI is ‘negative’ for prostate cancer. (Others have suggested the ones missed by an MRI are not particularly significant)
Which is strange because the Radiologist (MD) in this clip suggests the MRI (if negative) may mean no needle biopsy. Starting at 1:15.
One of MANY interesting contradictions (or differing opinions in the medical profession) in prostrate health.

this is what i find the 'scariest thing'...about all of this: 'The Differing Procedures, suggestions, Actions, Results, and Opinions...from Doctors. Go to 'One Clinic or Hospital'..... You're Fine; Another? .....'Uh sir....we got problems'. Yeah...your gonna need a Biopsy ASAP!....... Cripes. So you follow 'any one'...of their recommendations.....and things get screwed up. Also very nervous since i've learned ( and you gotta love their 'percentage quotient'...on everything) that if you get the 'person' who isn't really very good at inserting that needle into your abdomen.....it can puncture an intestine and now you've got 'Fecal'....into another part of the body, thus..... serious Pathos. Wonderful...... How long does a typical MRI session go for? thanks.

PSA =10, 4K score 48, 95cc prostate. Dr. took 16 biopsy samples and found nothing. is something is wrong here? I have very good errrr make that expensive insurance PPO.

    • @JH-tj9jd

Yes, I've had 6 MRI scans of my neck and spine while having a few silver fillings. Magnets only attract ferromagnetic metals. Metal fillings, commonly called silver fillings because of their color, are made of about 50% mercury, plus silver, tin, copper, and other metals. Magnets have no effect on these materials.

If you have prostate which is physically enlarged with a digital exam, if your PSA is high, then an MRI is a great way to see WHERE the leison is. Otherwise they are just poking a needle in the dark. They use both that MRI and ULTRA sound to focus on the leison itself. Simple, quick and life saving....Ask him why even if the MRI is negative he wants one. Maybe the PSA is too high. If you don't like him, find someone else. The latin for this is, Nullius in Verba. Trust no one, even if and expert. Chances are he sees a large PSA, and a digit exam showed a large prostate. Trust him if he gives a good reason. While you and I were drinking beer and chasing women, he was studying and studying and studying, trapped in a hospital and learning learning learning. Would you question your Dentist's use of xray, procaine, lasers.... Trust this guy....believe me.

No problem, depending on the size of the machine your head will be just outside. They also have a large doughnut type if near you. I'm always up for taking a Valium first if they are going to put my head in a cage for a brain scan, for example. But here is a tip.....Close your eyes BEFORE getting in the machine, and Don't open them up until you are on your way out. You can look up and see how 'stupid' you are to be afraid with two huge holes on either side. I don't know why but I caved dived in the past and it never meant a thing. But I hear your plea. Just close your eyes and try to sleep. And for god's sake don't open them up and I'll have to give you a dope slap. Whew ! It can be scary if you insist on keeping your eyes open....Good Luck Man

Head in tube but where the opening is. It’s open on both ends. You also have a ball in your hand that you can squeeze if you want to be let out. I close my eyes and want out but tell myself just another minute and so time flies and I start to relax after the initial minutes. Obviously I don’t have a prostate but did 3 MRI’s so far. Take a prescription med to calm you down if needed.

I have a pacemaker as well. Even though my Medtronic pacemaker is "MRI safe" the stand alone MRI facilities in the DFW area all refused me. Only places that would do it were hospitals that either already have the pacemaker diagnostic equipment or have a representative from the pacemaker manufacturer there with you while the MRI is done. Also it has to be a 3T MRI as the 1.5T doesn't provide the needed resolution.
