Nice video bro! 🙌 Could we get a video specifically about setting up a lure, especially in terms of the purpose and use of leader lines, swivels...etc. Real beginner stuff, I know, but it’d really help to make sure I’m getting the basics right!
I'm not much good as a lure fisherman but after watching one of your videos I located a packet of pre-rigged 3 inch paddle tails that I bought about 10 years ago. Went down to the Georges River and landed a number of Flathead. I've had a bit of success with the Cranka Crab from my Kayak - fish it like a bait while drifting.
Ha ha ,,, you've just described what i use Shroom ! Plus a few blades and Gulp prawns . 👍🎣 Keep em coming champ . I see you've past the 70k followers mark ! Good work . 👌
Been nailing the flatty's with the paddle tails just got my self some world famous watermelon red zmans as well as some motor oil zman grubs the addiction has hit hard lol im coming lock stock and barrel with the final shot some s factor haha 👌
Ever tried one of the small or medium sized Tassie Devils? Do away with the through wire, put a swivel or ring to leader, put a bead on the leader, then the Tassie (narrow end forward for tight, narrow sway/fast retrieve. wide end forward for wide sway/slow retrieve) then a couple more beads big enough that the lure cannot slide onto the hook, then a straight hook of your choice. I use circles and baitholders usually. With the baitholder you csn run a small plastic tail onto to hook to have a spoon with tail and the barbs on the shank hold it in place quite nicely. This is my favourite all round lure for bream, flatties, tailor, whiting, coota, trevas and any other inshore species you care to name, even Snapper (though I usually step up to the biggest for Snapper). Fish from flat out crank to slow roll to lift and drop fluttering. I know that Tassies are generally associated with trout fishing, but give then a go. I even hunt carp with the things lol.
No I haven't Andrew and that is a very interesting description of how to go about it! I might have to give it a go one of these days once I'm able to travel again. I should have one or two Tassie devils around the place

I may in the future. The reason I haven't is because a lot of people message me saying they bought the lures in the list and mostly they are beginners and so I've tried not to use expensive or easy to snag lures. Most of them are kids saving up and I know the pain when you lose a lure like that!
That's true Carlos. It's a balancing act of being quick but not moving the lure too far with each hop. It's to get a frantic struggling action across without spooking them
Carlos, when bream are actively feeding, they will aggressively chase a plastic or other lure that is fast hopped like a fleeing prawn. In fact, i have caught many by hopping the lure out of the water a couple of times and then fast twitching it as it hits back onto the water. Remember, prawns and bait fish are not just sitting around waiting for a hungry bream to swim by and slurp it up, and a bream is not expecting this either. You would be surprised how many fish view a slow moving lure with distrust and distaste.A lure that hops into its view and looks like leaving it before being identified, likewise will be ignored, so fast burns like for a tailor or salmon run are not great. But, a good medium fast retrieve can often turn on slow fish as it sits long enough to get them interested, not long enough to be rejected out of hand as inedible. Fish will often just sit and watch a jig that sits until it moves, then they nail it. Flatties and whiting are likewise fans of a reasonable speed to their plastics.
True Sam! I haven't used them as much in the past year so it didn't make the list. However, I'm a big fan of their lures especially the spider prawn. Been smoked on them by kingfish when chasing bream which is a testament to how effective they are!
@@gaoshengBEN Alot of that would depend on where you are fishing and what for. Some ways to make sure you catch fish with soft lures - 1/ Make sure they are rigged correctly on the correct hook size. Weight is also a factor, but affects the way the lure swims, not its rigging, so will get to that later. The lure has to be of a size that it does not overwhelm the lure. If it is set too far back, the lure will lose alot or all of its inate action. You do not want the hook to extend much past 2/3 of the way down the lure at the most. Aim for somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 and you're good. Make sure the lure is nice and straight on the hook, not bunched and crooked, or the lure will not swim true and will tumble and spin. You want the hook in the top 1/3 of the lure, certainly not angled down, but nice and straight. 2/ Use a flouro leader. Because you may well want to sit the lure for periods or slow retrieve it, a flouro leader is great to cut down on line spooking if using braid as main line. It also provides tough resistance to snags and teeth. 3/ Try using a variety of different rigging methods. I like to use a small running bead sinker to the hook when fishing rocky and timbered areas, in weed I like a longer leader with a ring and a running sinker on the mainline. Neither of these use jig heads, Just weedless rigged on circle hooks. You will find variations of these rigs as Texas and Carolina rigs using bullet sinkers, but a barrel or round is also just as good. A running bomb sinker in smaller sizes is fantastic to prospect sandflats and deep holes on the mainline above a ring and leader. I prefer rings to swivels to help prevent the lure spinning. 4/ Have a few different colours and sizes and do not be afraid to switch out for different sizes or colours. If you are not getting anything at all after trying a variety or retrive speeds and techniques, try something completely different (i.e a red paddle tail instead of a green wriggle tail). If you are getting follows that are not converting, try slowing down and pausing in the retrieve, or going down a size or two in the tail. If this does not work, try up sizing. This can sometimes be extremely effective as it elicits territorial strikes and interests bigger fish as a meal more than a minnow. 5/ Be patient and work the water. Work areas of interest thoroughly, but don't ignore those spots in between. Hit areas with obvious fish holding features such as snags, pylons, bouys, rocks, gutters and ledges thoroughly, do not just put in a cast and bring it in and say, nothing there. Work the water column at a variety of depths and speeds. My personal preference is soft plastics, I catch a heap more on them . Good luck with your quest, and do not give up. There are instances where a hard body is preferable, but mostly I just reach for the plastics bag and go from there.
@@binjaminchun6553 The Wrigglers smallest I think is the 65mm, however, the Squidgy Crawler is available in 4.5 and is dynamite on bream, trevally, leatherjacket, golden perch, redfin, carp,
Not very versatile because of how light they are. And can't get more than 4 feet deep. If you get them in front of a bream they will eat it, but when discussing "best" you must consider all circumstances.

Bream are surprisingly hard to catch. They permeate all through every river system yet can appear scarce until you find out what works for you. Give these lures a try and I reckon you'll tick that box off!
Shroom do I get a prize for calling BS on the 45mm Squidgy Wriggler? I would ask for a blade or cranka crab for a prize but it looks like you forgot they exist when you made up the 45mm wriggler! :)
I love blades and the Cranka Crabs Boris. I've just caught more bream on the Squidgy Wrigglers over the years that I've used them. Those other lures would have made my top 10 but with only 5, it was tough. Fantastic lures were bound to miss out. Everyone is entitled to their own top 5, hence why I posed the question
@@ShroomFishing I was joking about the wriggler and the prizes, I think you mean 65mm. Unless they started making 45mm wriggler and I'm wrong (rarely wrong). My top 5 are the same top same for the last 10 years, Zman 2.5 grub bloodworm or Motor Oil, Strike pro Cyber vibe, Jackall Chubby Brown Suji, Atomic 38 Muddy prawn or GGB, Cranka Crab Olive or Brown heavy. Maria 38 cranks, sugarpens and bream prawns all very close to top 5. I still have a full tacklebox of the old squidgy wrigglers and lobbies from when the Zman grubs got released and most of us ditched the wrigglers about 8 years ago. Still a great lure, heck I remember a session on the harbour/lane cover river that I caught more than 60 bream on wasabi 80mm wrigglers, a sesh that I have never come close beating in the last 10 years. Man I just wana get back out there and catch one
@@badlordboris9938 thanks for your top 5 boris. I notice you and alot of other bream anglers plus pros always stick solid with the same lures/colours. Is it just a simple case of they work and why change? Or you have experimented with other lures/colours but find best success with those ~5 or so?
@@whyme4258 I use to fish a lot, out on the boat every weekend sat and sun practicing for comps and that's just what works best. Its all just time spent on the water in different situations and seeing what catches the most fish, its not about what catches fish when its easy, its more about what catches when its tuff. Nearly all the guys in comps use the same lures, some small variations but not many to be honest. If you asked 10 tournet anglers what lure to use on the car park in pit water half of them will say Firebaits and have for 10 years. Its not just the lures but the way they fish too, certain weather conditions force you into certain styles of fishing. Eg windy at Lake Mac will push everyone onto rocky banks with cranks. Bright sun and low tide with have many fishing hulls. Is there such thing as a pro bream angler? Michael C won like 3 tournaments (Including Aus Open) and placed high on a few others and I still don't think he cleared 20G. Wouldn't pay for all the fuel, boat repayments and lures for a year. Just a big passion with no real chances to make a career out of it.

True Sam! I haven't used them as much in the past year so it didn't make the list. However, I'm a big fan of their lures especially the spider prawn. Been smoked on them by kingfish when chasing bream which is a testament to how effective they are!
Hi boss . New to the lure . Tried soft no luck you think should I switch too hard body?
Hi Sheng, yes but at the moment, plastics will be more effective in the colder water. When the water warms up, then the hardbodies become deadly.
@@ShroomFishing thanks
@@gaoshengBEN Alot of that would depend on where you are fishing and what for.
Some ways to make sure you catch fish with soft lures -
1/ Make sure they are rigged correctly on the correct hook size.
@@AndrewFishman wow this is fantastic. Thanks mate
@@gaoshengBEN good luck. Hope you catch a whale
No MMD soft prawn ?
I haven't used them before Mickey
No love for the cranka crab?
So tough to make a top 5. Great lures and I could have easily had them in there.
Anyone know if we can still fish in the updated greater Sydney lockdown?
Sport & recreation and if not juat say your really struggling and fishing for your dinner
bahahaha
shroom thanks bro wish you the best during lockdown
Thank you, you too Kyson
@@ShroomFishing thanks
not the gulp crabby?
Love them Mark. Just impossible to make a top 5 and put all the ones I want in
Cranka crab ?
Cranka crab??
Do lures work at night?
Yes Sabin. Check this video out for how to fish at night: ruclips.net/video/icfVaLHV2s4/видео.html
Hey where can you buy the 45mm wrigglers?
Binjamin, most major stores will stock them. They should be called durastretch
@@ShroomFishing Really? I can only find the 65mm ones.
@@binjaminchun6553 Might be the 65mm. It's the ones I've been using in the Cooks river videos. They are very small
@@ShroomFishing Ok thanks. The 65mm ones are around 2.5 inches and 45mm is around 1.8 inches which seems very small
@@binjaminchun6553 The Wrigglers smallest I think is the 65mm, however, the Squidgy Crawler is available in 4.5 and is dynamite on bream, trevally, leatherjacket, golden perch, redfin, carp,
Eco gear sx40 #1 for me..
Great lures. What's your top 5?
Not very versatile because of how light they are. And can't get more than 4 feet deep. If you get them in front of a bream they will eat it, but when discussing "best" you must consider all circumstances.
@@ShroomFishing do most of my bream fishing on the nsw mid nth coast.
Most of the time fishing in water a meter deep or less so dive depth etc is not that crucial. Top 5 for me in this area is
1.ecogear so 40
2.bassday sugar pen 90
3.bassday sugar pen 120 shallow water brutes love this thing.
4.atomi hards in any see through colour.
5.daiwa double clutch 60mm.
As you probably guessed I'm a bit of a hard body junkie...
@@markrigg6623 gota be the LC's normal ones are horrid. I always did better on the 43's before they got discontinued. Use to kill it in the Hawkesbury racks or in the dirty water up the parra with them, the green prawn pattern colour.
@@backflippingturtles8579 They are what we call in the trade "internet lures" 😅 young anglers are so easily manipulated by disguised advertising on the net and youtube.

Woah faster than me! 👍👍
Any land based kingfish spots round middle Harbour DM me will shout ya some beers for the info
is it weird that every lure i use i have caught almost everything except bream, mfs only eat pilchard and yabbys
@@badlordboris9938 I might be quoting the size from 10 years ago haha. It might be the 65mm these days
