To make a Parent dummy, and btw P stands for "Parent" he use it to seperate the children, and he use it just to make another layer outside (2:34). otherwise the barrel would look weird
Hi! I don't understand the use of separating the planes (for example the barrel sides in two or the top and botton) and then unifiying them again... does it have any purpose?
Ok, I just saw, I thought extrude individual faces would to that, but first you have to separate all the sides one by one or the barrel will grow without seams.
I think from what you asking is why doesn't the bottom left cylinder menu appear. First of all make sure you are in object mode. secondly press shift+A and do not move the cylinder and it should appear.
