    It's interesting how close Islam is to the medical consensus. 120 days is about 17 weeks and viability occurs between 22-28 weeks. To an overwhelming degree, most abortions occur before 17 weeks. Most doctors will not perform an abortion well into pregnancy without some sort of extenuating health circumstances. Islam's views on abortion are more progressive and more in line with most OB-GYNs than modern Christianity.

      I was thinking the same thing. Also, we always consider it inhuman to kill or risk the death of any other unborn animal, like unborn dolphins, so why don’t we recognize the life in people? And many abortion procedures are incredibly painful for the unborn child (even if we don’t know exactly how painful).

    • @gracehetfield5331
      @gracehetfield5331 Месяц назад

      @gabrielmedina2480 they're not painful for the unborn. The medical consensus is that a fetus cannot feel pain until at least 24-25 weeks. After that, there is some debate as to whether a fetus can feel pain. Less than 1% of abortions are performed at a point where a fetus could theoretically feel pain. Most abortions these days are medication induced miscarriages and don't require a procedure.

    Actually the hadeeth says “period of time (similar) to 40 days” that the soul is breathed in, so since in arabic it is saying period of time (similar) to 40 days and not exact 40 days when soul is breathed in, it is impossible to know exactly when the soul is breathed in, and therefore abortion is completely not allowed at all except for when mothers life is in danger, which is almost never anyways. And besides: it already says in the Quran not to kill your children and not to take an innocent life without just cause. Children are a blessing from Allah according to the Quran, so killing that blessing is an obvious act of rebellion against god, and u know how severe a sin that is in islam.

    The egg analogy isn't a good one because the eggs we get from the grocery store and eat aren't fertilized. I don't think he did a good job explaining the differences between a baby out of the womb vs a fetus in the embryonic stage (3 - 8 weeks). The fetus is well considered human life at that point and when excluding the obvious physical differences, it is very similar to a baby out of the womb, in that it is a human life that cannot sustain itself without assistance from another.

    I guess the main issue I have with this is, what do we mean by "soul"?
    As a Catholic, who is strongly in favor of a more Thomistic approach, we would say roughly, all living things have a "soul" or "life". And that there are different types, vegetative(plants), Emotional(animals, there are other names for this one) and rational(humans, this would also include things like intelligent aliens if those exist). And since at the moment of conception it is unique, biologically alive and from human parents, it has a rational soul and therefore worthy of protection like any other person(outside the womb)
