This lathe technique is never taught in school.Making tools,Incision smoother
This additional lathe tool is rarely known by mechanics,This is one trick for smoothing cut marks from lathe blades. With this tool, the turning results become smoother without using sandpaper

Thank you for visiting, don't forget to like and subscribe for support, thank you
it is called burnishing and yes it is taught in trade schools
Thank you friends for telling me the nickname for this tool
Like this and other trick we’ve learned on the good old technical metalworking school years ago when i was 16/17.
Now i am 59!
Make your own tools.
No CAD, no CNC just old fashioned machinery!
Can damaged shock absorber crome plated pipe having minor scratches leaking hydrolic oil treated with this tool 🤔
I studied machining at trade school, completed an apprenticeship, while I had heard of burnishing techniques, I never saw anything like this.
What you need is one ball bearing on either side. You are also work hardening the surface.
Excellent. Roller burnishing is an excellent way of obtaining a very fine finish and cold working the surface to add hardness. This is a good process for finishing hydraulic seal surfaces. Let’s see you make a tool for ID burnishing.
I have been struggling with good surface finish on my old lathe, so I think that's a curious technique, and an asy to make setup. So now I'm contemplating to make this instead of a toolpot grinder. But it seems almost too easy so there has to be a catch.. How does this surface compare to a ground surfaces? Apart from the cold working of course, is this as good as a ground surface for sliding seal surfaces, press fit, tool tapers etc.?
Thank you friend, next time I will try to make it
@@computernamein this setup, it won’t be as accurate as a ground surface. It would give a smooth enough surface.
@@mattj5025 Thanks for the comment. Used a Dremel as a toolpost grinder in the end. Not the greatest thing in the world but does the trick.
But the sphere leaves ripples on the piece. If I had only used the bearing it would be more homogeneous.
Great job, Amazing idea!
Bro your my new machine shop teacher. Thanks
Thank you
one of the most valuable lesson I see here is to never let the lack of tools stop you from creating...
have a lathe but no mill? no problem
want a tool? why not make it?
I'm planning what needs to be prepared
Very nice idea for a good tool from simple parts 👏
Thank you
Just use carbide insert and high cutting speed 🤦🏻♂️
Bravo !
Thank you
Great idea - 10/10 !
Thank you
@@KULITEKNIK001 You are most welcome - Have a great 2024 ! :)
from minute 6:30 to 6:45. Only with the bearing it is much better, because the sphere leaves undulations in the piece. If I had only used the bearing it would be more homogeneous.
Thank you for the advice
Why do you have to hate on people who share knowledge. Who cares if you already know it? What free education have you ever provided to strangers? Seriously, people like you are cancer. Go back to your cave and leave people alone.
May it works for pump seals?
🙏👍👍
nice
very nice
Thank you 👍
So, after I touch off, how far do I move in to "polish"? Thank you.
🙏👍👍👍
I’ve never seen someone mount a 3 jaw chuck in a 4 jaw chuck. There must as much play or more than a clapped out old Bridgeport…
I saw that a few times already. You always need to think what you are trying to do if it's fine and within the range of your allowed tolerances nothing speaks against it.
it is hard to actually tell what is working and what is not, with all the "Editing" happening.... goes from one poor looking finish to an excellent finish.... but doesn't show how you got there.
Super
very nice idea with the ball bearing 👍
Thank you

That's how a lathe is used like a milling machine.

Great… another video by a mute…
No they don't teach this in any school and for good reason.
