@@danrobinson572 That's true. I would love a series starting out in the grey era of the late 1950a in the east end and moving on in stages. A good producer and director would be vital in the production of a serial on the Krays. We have an American series called the Sapranoes as you know so why not one about the Kray twins because it must be difficult making a good film and trying to pack everything in when the running time is only 90 minutes or so.

People have to realise gangsters are and always have been in a certain mindset. I remember when Frankie Fraser came to live in Peckham in his latter years. The locals were intrigued by him. He was very friendly and familiar figure in the Hollydale Tavern. I once asked him what Charlie Richardson was like to which he replied.. he was a good man. That's about as much as Frankie would say. He never gave anything away. It's the mindset. Critics said the same about Charlie Richardson's autobiography. Charlie didn't give much away. Good luck with your research and videos. Remember one thing, they bullied decent hardworking pub owners, shop owners, garages, restaurants, etc for 'protection money' - and when they were jailed, folk in the EE actually CHEERED. BTW, i believe that Reggie was never freed due to the fact, that he was chasing popularity with stupid, crummy stories to the Gutter Press. Also, the other reason he was NOT freed was because all his letters, telephone calls, etc were bugged by the authorities, and they felt if released, he will 'start his old vicious tricks again'. Both the Krays were only popular because of the fact that they were Twins, and they had a photogenic type of appeal. BTW, Clever/Canny gangsters are not known to the public, let alone the Police - and no way, is the Krays in the league of Fred Foreman, The Richardson gang or Billy Hill. BH was furious when he learnt what those two louts did to Mitchell, and constantly called them 'the brainless C@!ts'.
Reg wasnt released for many reasons, including the fact he was a sexual predator of young inmates, He had warnings on his record to stay away from YPs. I always had the feeling a free Reg would be going around the East End looking for young men, and he wasnt known for taking no as an answer. His marriage to Roberta was a last ditch attempt to be paroled, but although they were fond of each other it certainly wasnt love.Not on Reggies part anyhow. He was also into any scam going and was drunk almost every night of the week with his "followers" You are right Billy Hill thought they were brainless, he wanted them to take over from him until he discovered they really were stupid. Im interested in them but i certainly dont hero worship them.
Welcome back Rich good to hear from you again. A book you didn't mention is Leslie Payne's T(their ex financial adviser) an OK book. IMO The Krays are a lesson in how to not be a successful in the world of crime. They just wanted (well Ron did) to be gangsters. They got too big for their own boots and the establishment closed them down. They also hurt a lot of people that we never hear about. However compared to the Essex Boys they did have some redeeming features / behaviours, the so called Essex Boys have none.

@L The 1990 film is pretty good. Its not really that accurate in some things but it does a good job on most things. Its better than Legend in my opinion. Much darker,gritty
@@Richie2015 The thing that annoyed me the most Rich was the Richardsons for some reason were called the Pelhams, which put me off it a lot. Jack McVitie was also portrayed as a northerner when he was from London

The film legend is a good film and tom hardy plays a good double role but it is really not very accurate. He might have done a good job at portraying 2 fictional characters but its not really much like the real krays. And that other more recent film with 2 parts that focuses more on the run in with nipper reid is not very good either & not accurate in portrayals of the characters. The rise & the fall of the kray's i think it was called.
