Came across this whilst looking through you tube, my mum was born in keighley in 1930 lived on Gladstone street as did her parents, grandparents etc for a few generations, think they dated back to the founding fathers. I spent time there in my late teens, loved it.
Always comes back to my thoughts when i think about my family.
Thank you to you and your dad God bless him, for sharing!

What a lovely video to watch of Keighley's history. I love staying here. Born & Bred in Keighley. Really interesting to learn about all the air raid shelters. Thank you for uploading this amazing piece of history.

A friend and neighbour of my mother's (in Canada) was Mary Glazier, an English war bride from Keighley. She married Bill Glazier, a soldier from Canada, and raised six children in Oshawa, Ontario. She just died (Jan. 13, 2017) at age 90.

What was her maiden name. she was the same age as my dad who is still with us so they may have known each other. My condolences on her passing

I've been unable to determine her maiden name. Her obituary does mention her childhood friend, Freda Stubley, from her home town.

My dad went to Keighley technical college before becoming a mechanic and opening his own garage in Keighley. We left Keighley in 1975 when my parents emigrated to New Zealand.

Wow, Keighley looked better when this was filmed. The town actually looks decent, cleaner, better cared for and lively. It appears pretty decent and like people enjoy being out in Keighley. Now it is run down, depressivlng, dreary, high street on the decline, the town could do with a facelift and there are druggies about with the police often seen. I wouldn't stay in this town now. It is a deadend place.

To ALL Watching, Who Know Keighley,
very Close to Steeton Train Station, Was a Huge WW2 Munitions Factory Making Bombs & Bullets etc in WW2. This was A very Closely Guarded Secret.
It was Built OUT of KLY, in case the Germans Discovered it & heavily bombed it.
also in case of accidental Explosions etc.
Single Storey Very Secure & Strongly Built buildings.
LOW Height Buildings, So they Could Probably Camoufage them very Effectively.
If they Bombed the place, All the bombs that missed would land in open Fields. Only the Old cottages would have existed back then.
All these Clever Tricks Helped us Win WW2.
Our Manufacturing of WW2 Essentials was Scattered all over the country.
The Germans Could NEVER Find all of them, or attack All of them.
Lots of Little Factories & Not so Little Factories Dotted all over.
Delivering Wartime Jobs for All, All over the industrial Regions.
Taking the Jobs to the Workforce.
We Should be Doing Exactly THIS PLAN NOW, in March 2021, Virus times & After Brexit to Massively Reduce Foreign & EU imports & to Support UK Workers Jobs.
    ANYJOB is a Good Job.
Any Business that can pay it's overheads is a Good Business with Potential to Grow in the Near Future.

My name is ethan Keighley, my ancestors are from Keighley

I met a fellow by the name of Keightley in Brisbane, told him he had his name spelt wrong, showed him my ID with my birthplace of Keighley on it and told him that's how it should be spelt, without the t. He said that the first ancestor they had that went to Australia wasn't very literate and so spelt it that way. So you'll find a branch of them there that spells their name that way, but they are still part of the Keighley clan. That's the sort of thing that happens over time.

My ancestry come from here too although somewhere along the lines the surname changed spelling and so I’m a Keatley

Actually, the structure at the end of Grange Road is not the only surviving surface air-raid shelter in Keighley. My garden in Riddlesden has a small private shelter, as does my next door neighbour's - built from brick with a flat concrete roof.
