If you're gonna do the inner monologue stuff, make sure to have it be echo-y or sound effected so that there is a clear distinction between how you're talking normal IC and how the inner monologue sounds.
When you introduce it to the conversation, make sure that you speak something right after at least so they don't have a chance to respond to what they weren't supposed to hear. It doesn't need to be contradicting what you say in your head, but that does help get the point across. Like when Ramee says no way I'm writing reports in his monologue, then comes back with I'll get those reports written right away in character voice.
Make sure you also pick and choose your spots very carefully. If you overuse it, it becomes annoying for the other person to interact with you. If you use it with someone newer to RP, they may not understand the bit and just get really confused, and there is no way to really explain without it getting weird.
Mantis who plays the guy he talks to during that inner monologue was so goated for just rolling with it.. although I'm pretty sure it had been used before around him.. but he even leaned in to saying stuff to Conan that helped the "thoughts" become even funnier
