The 55 to 210 lens is a cracking little zoom to carry around. It's not going to win any super sharpness awards but it gives a good amount of reach in a tiny lens package. I used mine extensively on a recent holiday, I thought I'd barely use it but the very sunny weather meant its slow aperture wasn't a problem for me. Needless to say it has its limits, don't go expecting this to come close to a 70 - 200 f2.8 but for pleasure shooting its perfectly fine 😃
Man you are dropping gems left and right! I'm in the process of ordering this lens and this is all i needed to see to make my decision. Thanks as always! Keep up the good work!
To be honest, I cant even tell the difference between the shot taken by this lens using this method and the shot taken by 70-200GM... BTW, love this types of content, great work!
Thanks. Can you cover other uses for this 55-210mm lens ? Wildlife , for example. I realize that its a daytime lens. I found the picture quality quite good.
Thanks again brother! I went to the Zoo on Sunday with my A6000, but I was in a quandary because my kit lens didn't do any justice..hahaaa. I even forgot to turn on the auto/tracking AF... Last night I was searching for a zoom lens online, and now I see that you just uploaded exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!
hi nice video as always,is it worth to get 70 200 f4 sony lense instead of this or not?I really like to buy 2.8 sony but its so expensive for me.Thanks a lot.
After seeing your video I decided to go for a shoot with the 55-210mm, on the a5000. Mainly used it between 100-150mm at f5.6 - f6.3 and I was really impressed by the results. However, it really made me think about buying the 18-105 f4 :D
Do you still use this lens? And have you tried changing the quality from fine to ex fine or raw as to see the crispness of focus? I have the a6500 and it seems to me to get a crisper image shooting in standard or fine rather than ex fine raw ect. Maybe this is due to it taking more information in at better quality settings idk.
you a good teacher. the way you cover this topic, I am thinking maybe I didn't need to get my 2.8 70-200, ok, I already knew I didn't need it, I just wanted it😉.
the rooster in the very begining stole the show lol... i was thinking about this lens just to add to my kit to replace my canon 70 200 L which i sold for a gimbal. would u suggest this lens or buy an other 70 200 L used??? sell my canon 24 105 L and oick up the siny 18 105 g ? ive been getting by with the sony 35mm 1.8 50mm 1.8 and L lens but im loving sony af-c and dont know if i should sell all my dated canon gear... any thoughts.
I've seen this video of your like 50 times! And still haven't decide to buy it yet. I have an a6000 and the type of portrait that i want to make are around 80mm style but with a lower aperture. Please help me out. Thanks
Hi there. Really useful video! But I have a question. If I use this lens on a a5000, which is a crop sensor...does it actually mean that I have to multiply the Aperture with 1.5 in order to find out the actual settings? And does it mean that I loose sharpness and megapixels? Thank you!
Also its important to keep your subject far enough away from the background in order to throw the back out. If your subject is up against a wall or fence, you wont be able to throw out the background as much if at all, esp at only f5.6 or f6.3 which is the max aperture on this lens when zoomed in. So 3 keys are: 1) Use widest aperture possible at focal length set; 2) Get as close to your subject as possible to increase blur/compression; 3) have subject far away from background. With those 3 tips you will maximize the blur in the back even with a kit lens.
Will this lens work for shooting outside sports, maybe even photo shoot indoors and outdoors? I’m so lost on which lens I should get my a6000. I want something good that will do the job but also something not to expensive.. any suggestions anyone???
How do you like sony 18-200 Or tamron 18-200? Can you do a video w 18-200 len and go through all scenarios like Marco, portrait, landscape, night shots etc...? I'm curious about all settings for this Len. Thanks
I like that lens it is all in one! I like to take long trip and hate carrying many lens! So this one to me do it all! But I'm just a novice, so not able to get all the capabilities of this lens yet! Hoping so some awesome tips!
Awesome stuff! Been binge watching your a6000 vids lately. :D Is there a noticeable background blur differerence on 55mm and 220mm given that they have the same composition? I have always preferred going lower before, as it helps with reducing camera shake and especially when shooting handheld (also allows faster shutter speed if I remember your tutorial correctly). Hope to see more videos soon!
You will have to use a slightly faster shutter speed at the furthest length of 210mm. Something like 1/320 would probably be a safe shutter speed with optical steady shot enabled to prevent blur. Since we're taking photos daytime outside you can increase your shutter speed a little more if you're worried about shake. I do have some more videos on the way. Thanks again for watching and following the series!
But you can't keep everything framed the same with a different focal length. The background framing will decrease relative to foreground framing at longer focal lengths.
I have watched a couple of your photography videos and found them very useful - especially for beginners like me. I will be practicing for sure and will apply your tips. Thanks mate! - Edison @threeapoltravellers

at 135 @ 5.6 still looks pretty legit!
These videos are great, I was a little overwhelmed with everything this camera can do but these are the best tutorials on RUclips.
Great they are helping you.
Really appreciate your videos for the a6000, thanks for still keeping it current.

I’m so glad you’re back making videos again! I know you’ve been back for a while but you just popped up. I was like yeahhhhh buddy!

Subscribed especially for a6000 tutorial videos. Hope I can see a lot in future too. Keep up the excellent work. Wishes from India :-)
Hello, do you think its wise to swap my Tamron 18-200 to Sony 55-210. I believe lens has more quality and sharpness. What do you think?
To be honest, I cant even tell the difference between the shot taken by this lens using this method and the shot taken by 70-200GM...
BTW, love this types of content, great work!
Thank you for all these videos 📹💗. You have inspired and taught me so much in so little time
Thanks. Can you cover other uses for this 55-210mm lens ? Wildlife , for example. I realize that its a daytime lens. I found the picture quality quite good.
I'm working on one for sports. Maybe you can apply the concepts from that one to wildlife.
that1cameraguy course it will be relevant, humans are wildlife, since we are human primates, haha.
Do you recommend this at a6000? Is this worth to buy?
Thanks again brother! I went to the Zoo on Sunday with my A6000, but I was in a quandary because my kit lens didn't do any justice..hahaaa. I even forgot to turn on the auto/tracking AF... Awesome, wish I had the video out earlier before you went to the zoo.

It depends what you shoot and what you're needs are, it's a really difficult question to answer.
Awesome tutorial mate...Really appreciate it!

hi cool video can you please link the sun visor for me
Great tutor! The scene is just like my country especially with the rooster back sound. Feel so natural and homey.
I have an 210mm for a sony6000, I mostly use it for portraits, I'm thinking to buy an 50mm or I should stay with the 210? what would you recommend me
I love using the 50 mm 1.8 for portraits. You can get sharper images with really good background blur without breaking the bank.
the rooster in the very begining stole the show lol... i was thinking about this lens just to add to my kit to replace my canon 70 200 L which i sold for a gimbal. would u suggest this lens or buy an other 70 200 L used??? sell my canon 24 105 L and oick up the siny 18 105 g ? ive been getting by with the sony 35mm 1.8 50mm 1.8 and L lens but im loving sony af-c and dont know if i should sell all my dated canon gear... any thoughts.

No, you don't need to multiply aperture, only focal length.
Great videos and useful
Keep these type of videos coming as most of us don't spend thousands :-)
Will do
HDvids101 until you learn your limitations, then you will want to spend $2598 for da gmaster.
Socrates Vela I feel the only way one is limited is by their imagination.
HDvids101 was referring to the hardware's limitations, but I suppose you can make up for it with some imagination.
At 210mm with what aperture it is sharpest? F8?
Can I purchase this camera in 2021?
Is there a manual focus on the lens?
Another really useful video, so useful. Thanks
Very good video🤩🤩
What kind of tripod or monopod is that?
Thanks Danny (sp). Good live stream last night with you and Jason! Hello to the rooster as well!
+Jim P Photos haha, that rooster next door was a bit distracting for me

I appreciate it Rajat

hi. can u recommend me a suitable lens for a6000 tht can shoot best during lowlight esp at night time and concert venue. im a beginner btw. tq
Farah Izni SEL50F18F
The sigma trio : 16mm/30mm/56mm f1.4 are the low-light monsters

Hmm. I don't own the lens unfortunately. I may look at it in the future, but no guarantees.
that1cameraguy c'mon Danny, got to be like Vong and keep shopping, especially today. Amazon Prime baby!

Is this lens great for indoor?
Absolutely not.
great vid man, appreciate the help
This is very useful video for a beginner like me , thank you so much for sharing
Hi , how to blur the foreground ??
thanks
Why don't you drop to f4.5 when you are a 55mm?
how do you get the background blur on the 16-50 kit lens?
same tecnique that he used here
1. set to max zoom (50)
2. set to max aperture (lowest number)
3. back up to frame your subject
Thanks you so much sir
Thank you...
Nice tutor...
would auto iso work in this situation?
You could use auto ISO.
Thank you 😊
Thanks bro
This is surprisingly cheap for a sony lens, but I feel like buying a prime would still be better eh ?
Actually f/5.6 Blur is always the same amount with same framing, doesn't matter what focal length.
But you can't keep everything framed the same with a different focal length. The background framing will decrease relative to foreground framing at longer focal lengths.
Matthew Huizing true. Dof is same, blur is not.
So Link and Drake don't go outside?
+Jared Skarda lol
