This dude kept it real...I was about to drop some cash on new lenses but him saying that I need to use my lense kit to the full potential really made me take a step back and reevaluate doing that
sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know a trick to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me
I'm a Photog and have tons of heavy canon equipment. Bought the a6000 after seeing your vids just for vacations and outings with the kids. I am having so much fun with the a6000. I am constantly astounded with the picture quality. At the moment it's my favorite piece of gear. I wanted to thank you for offering so much quality content on the a6000 as well as educating me on some of the best features. Thanks.
This video was very useful for me. I'm thinking on buy a Sony camera to immerse in the photografhy world and I don't know why I've checked a lot of lenses even if I have no camera yet. My point is that you're completely right, just keep the kit lens until I master my camera with that lens. Thank you a lot :)
Just got an A6000. Have watched at least five of your videos so far. This one might be my favorite, just given how you explain when and why to upgrade a lens. Previous to this camera I was using a Canon DSLR - very basic - and I bought one lens for it thinking that would solve my issues. It didn't , hence my complete change in gear. BUT one thing I never did, was invest in truly learning that camera. At the end of the day, it wasn't the quality I wanted, but I think the idea of learning what you have is SO important! And the feeling of knowing when you've "maxed out" the lens and that's when you should upgrade is on point. Thanks for sharing and keep the videos coming!
I just got the a6300 and I very much appreciate your honesty regarding upgrading. I'm new to mirrorless cameras so I'll be following all your videos for as much help as I can get. Thanks.
Just got a6000 last week as my first digital camera because watching many of your videos about this cam. Thanks and please keep making more video about a6000.
Sensible and wise reminder to all of us to use what we have up to the potential of the equipment, where you see that you do feel sure you want or more importantly need a higher level of performance. Thanks plenty!
I follow you and appreciate your contributions. I bought ny first serious (then) camera in 2001. It was an Olympus camera, with the 3.5 megapixel! Lol. Alas, after shooting for a couple of time and never bothering to learn it, I put it aside. It sat on my shelf with an occasional travel using. Then the iPhone came in and Back to the shelf went the camera. There it sat all these years, until last year I gave it to my grandson to try to foster in him an early love of photography. My point is that after I retired I decided to take up photography as a hobby. I bought a Sony a6000 with a kit lens and delved in earnest into landscape photography. With my love of traveling, it was a perfect match. I always wondered if this love of photography had kicked in when I bought that Olympus, where I’d be today! Now, that I have had some time to shoot with the a6000 as hobby, I was thinking of monetizing this hobby to help buying equipment and defray travel expenses. I own besides the kit lens, a Sigma 30mm f 1.28, a Neewer 35mm f 1.17 lenses. My question is, if I want to produce image that can sell, where do I go from here equipment wise?
This was very helpful for me! I'm a newbie a6000 user and I almost learn all the things I know from this channel. Awesome content! Please continue making A6000 videos. I'm really eyeing for the Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS Lens but after watching I think Ill stick with my kitlens first and learn from it.
First used this lens with a Nex-5t along with the 55-210. Now a few years later after using a7's with larger lenses, this 16-50 paired with the a6000 is my go to for everyday use. Upgrade, but keep this one in your bag. Great little lens!
Just getting into photography and getting an a6000 for Christmas. This was an absolutely cracking video and honest helpful advice for a beginner. Will be watching more of your a6000 vids
what a clear and honest explanation. I am satisfied with my kit lenses. the 16-55 and 55-210 and am looking for a fast lens. Then an AF prime may not be the right purchase, but an MF prime that is a lot faster.
Definitely need to upgrade from the kit lens....My lens was cleaned, but my photos from my recent trip to the zoo was underwhelming. The limitation to the range was a bit stressful. But I am still learning the gamut of options on the camera. Enjoying your videos and the knowledge I've been learning from you and the support your giving to us a6000 users who are still learning!!
Thanks for this video, for some casual situations I will actually try to downgrade to 16-50mm kit lens from using huge adapted Sigma lenses on A6500, and I will hope that it will be sharp enough for personal casual use.
I got my A6000 less than 2 months ago, i really love the tutorial you're giving. It help a lot on understanding how the camera work and maximise the capability of the kit lens. Manual focus lens always sound scary to a beginner like me, however with your tutorial on manual focus lens, i got myself a Meike 35mm f1.7 manual focus lens last week. All i can say is i'm totally happy with the image quality at this price range. Manual focus lens really not something hard to do and i get to achieve closer result to what im looking for compare to the auto focus. Just to let you know i really appreciate the hard work you put in on making such tutorial and keep it up !
I totally agree with your opinion about friends and family not realizing you dropped a grand on lens vs using kit lens!! I really don't understand why the kit lens gets so much hate. I personally think its great for an everyday lens - it's light, it's small, has a great zoom range, and it's quite sharp. People who review lens compare sharpness down to the pixel of the image. Realistically, no one looks at the final photo like that. They look at the zoomed out version and look at the overall image quality, most likely on their mobile phones too! I actually find it quite silly when i see camera reviews of two lens of totally different price ranges and the reviewer zooms 200% to the image comparing, only to find that the more expensive lens does indeed look a sharper, but when zoomed out, the difference in sharpness, to me, does not justify a $500 difference.
Edgar Cheung I get comments about how sharp my photos look on FB but it is because they are comparing them with the ones they get with their phone or from a DSLR in full auto mode, which can be great in good light but generally fail in low light or sports.
I would like to see you maybe in the future do a video on what vintage 35mm lenses to look for on the used market. Plus the adapters for the A6*** cameras. There are a lot of decent zooms out there and primes. Even though I have a A6500, the vintage look from older lenses is what made me go with the IBIS instead of the A6300. I just think it's a cool cheap way for your viewers to realize the potential in some older glass with adapters if they are just getting into photography.
You offered some great insight on this debate of upgrading from the kit lens - thank you. I've read some comments about receiving a "bad" 16-50mm lens and unfortunately, even after returning it, receiving another "bad" lens. How would I know if I have a good lens or a bad lens? What should I be looking for? Thanks
Such a golden advice dude. I just got my Sony A6000 a few weeks ago (after watching many reviews including yours) and I'm itching to buy a new lens since then. I've watched THIS video for the 3rd time now and I'm convinced to stick to my 16-50mm for a while. Besides, Sony won't make this kit lens if it wasn't good for any type of user. I might consider buying the Meike 35mm f/1.7 some other time but at least that's more affordable than the Sony 35mm OSS. The best purchases are the ones you don't make... Not yet (at least). Thanks dude!!
Great video. Maybe a similar video, however, about cameras. As of now I have an A6000 with no intentions of upgrading anytime soon, but I keep my options open.
Thanks for this video. Was exactly what I needed to hear; first use the kit lens and find out if I really need that expensive big lens. With the help of all your videos I hopefully can make the most of what I've got. Thanks ever so much!
Thanks for the video. I am at the point where you mentioned about other people are happy with the photos I take and don't notice how sharp or soft the photos look. But I notice when I pixel peep. The photos I take are not sharp as I want when I use my 18-105m. Don't get me wrong it is a great lens, but I am a videographer and considering to get the 16-70 for photos. But I hear the 16-70 images are soft from 50-70m where as the photos are sharper on the 18-105m from 50-105 and softer from 18-50m...So here lies my dilemma. Keep my 18-105m trade it in for the 16-70m and hope I good copy.
I have both the kit lens and the alpha mount 16-50 f2.8 (using LA-EA4 adapter). Differences? The more expensive one is sharper, and faster. But there are many times when I just don't need sharper and faster. People often talk about a given len's being soft in the corners but so often that doesn't matter because those soft corners are not noticeable because they blend in with the bokah. There are times when I'll take the f2.8 lens because I'm really wanting that super sharp result, or I know I'll be wanting better low light performance. But 80% of the time that small form factor kit lens will do a fine job, and I can slip the camera in my jacket pocket. I've found that upgrading to the a6500 (from A65) has made all of my lenses better.
I'm late to the party here, I see this was posted in 2017, but it's great insight. I use the a6400, and I actually love the 16-50 kit lens, and do professional work with it. I also have the Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS, mainly to be prepared for low light situations, and I found the 55-210 OSS for $100, so I picked it up, and it's an awesome lens, for specific things. Really fun to use. But I find the kit lens on my camera 90% of the time. Works great on my Crane M2 gimbal, as does the 35mm. But... I feel like an upgrade to a higher quality lens is coming for me, mainly because I am just curious if that will really change my work. Meaning I wonder if it will really look that different. I am leaning toward the Tamron 17-70, as I am a filmmaker and don't really do much still photography. I figure the extra $300 is worth bypassing the 18-105 for the f2.8, but maybe not??? ;) I have also been considering these SLR magic manual lenses. I use manual focus 90% of the time anyway, and those lenses are really reasonably priced and get amazing reviews across the board, but I like having the flexibility of a zoom lens. It suits my workflow a bit better, but then again, being someone who mainly makes movies, changing lenses is really not a big deal. I'm not usually in a rush to get a shot. Most are planned out. I'm certainly not a "run and gun" kind of shooter, in general. I have a documentary to shoot that will begin in a few weeks, that actually might require more "run and gun", so maybe I'll grab the Tamron by then, which will mean I have to upgrade my gimbal as well, so probably the Weebill S.... or... maybe I'll just stay with what I have. I'm curious, though, for sure... Will my work look better with better lenses? And I mean in a "real world" sense, not in a "pixel peep" sense. I don't really care about that at all. Anyway, whew!! Thanks for the great review/insight, I'm subscribed and interested in more of your videos... keep up the great work.
Thanks, man! I have never owned a DSLR or mirrorless before and I am wondering to buy one. The question is whether to buy a body and a good (of course, more expensive) lens or a kit lens. I think I will go with the kit lens first and try to dig the full potential of it just like you said before buying a good lens.
Your videos have been soo helpful! I have been using the the A6000 ( switch from Canon) for the last year and half as a hobbyist and have had paid opportunities to take family portraits and be a second shooter at weddings. Your videos have been so helpful and fill in the gaps. You do a great job of explaining things. I have upgraded my kit lenses and try to think about lenses that are affordable and also allow me to expand my skills. Currently I have the Sony 50mm f1.8, Tamron 18- 200mm ,Sigma 19mm f 2.8, Rokinon 85mm 1.4.( the video on manual focus was perfect!) I know how I want to use the Tamron ( walk around travel lens) and the Rokinon (portraits and even some sports) but I am not quite sure how to best use the Sigma 19 mm. I purchased it because I wanted to expand my lens collection and the 35mm and 60 mm felt too similar to the 50 mm. ( f stops are pretty close in 1.8-2.8 range and my budget is limited) Love your thoughts on what kind of photography is best used for the sigma ( street or travel photography?) What else do you consider when you expand your lens collection? Also with the lenses I have, which two lenses would you bring if you are traveling? I would bring the Tamron and not the Rokinon since it is so big and heavy but can't decide between the Sony or Sigma. Thanks for your advice!
I wanted to check in to see if you were able to answer my question on your Q&A. I watched the video on 7/16 and didn't see it. Could you direct me to the right video if you already answered it? Thanks for your help. Btw, I would also love a tutorial about how you organize your photos and how you use lightroom.
Bro u r telling the truth ... exactly what going on beginner's mind... because recently I've purchased Sony A5100. I can realize the kit lens is good enough for personal use landscape in daylight, but what is the best lens for night time landscape .
I've decided to get the Meike 50mm 2.0. I want to get better low light photography. The max f3.5 of my 1855mm kit lens is a shame. Thanks for the advice!
Thanks for keeping it real, man! I was thinking of just getting the 18-105 for my first real camera (a6400). But might just get the kit for now, learn and then get the 18-105 later. Cheers!
If you can get a deal with body only then get the 18-105 then why not. To be honest sony apsc zoom lens selection isn't that great compared to their FE line up and their competitor. Even the expensive $900 Zony 16-70mm f/4 is more of consumer enthusiast level, while Fuji has $1100 16-55mm f/2.8 that is made for professional It's yearly rumor that sony will release better apsc lens and camera but at this point, it's more like a joke. If you haven't bought the camera and can wait, try waiting until this year as confirmed rumor this year will release new apsc camera and lenses.
This is what exactly playing on my mind. I have the kit lens and a 50mm f1.4 canon fd glass and I love it! I'll stick with the current gears that I have until I got its full potential before upgrading or buying a new lens. Thank you for your insights and tutorials man! (y)
Always your vids are helpful.keep doing this.I will buying at this week the a6000,and you help me a lot with your tutorials .Is big problem with the lenses..
I have just Started photography and want to graduate from mobile phone shoots. I bought Sony a6000 + 16-50 kit lens . I also did an impulsive buy of Sony 50 f1.8 Prime lens . I will touring continental Europe this month end. Which lens to use where OR I stick to kit lens and improve my Sony A6000 usage skills . Thx
Thanks for the advice! About to pull the trigger on an A6400 (body only) and was considering the 18-105mm F4 OSS as a replacement to the kit lens (like you predicted in your video). I'm just getting into photo/videography so perhaps starting out with the kit lens and upgrading along the way would be wiser! Subbed, keep up the good work and all the best!
Thank you for all of the info for beginners, I looked at bunch of them but yours are much easier to follow and detailed. I have a question if you have time to answer. I have Sony a6300. Would you recommend the Sony Alpha 70-350mm F4.5-6.3 G OSS Super-Telephoto APS-C Lens versus 55-210 kit lens? I’m looking to use it for my vacation in Costa Rica where I would mainly want to take pictures of wildlife, birds, monkeys, splats etc. Or what lens in the range of up to $800-900 would you recommend for that? Thank you in advance.
Other Auto Focus options worth mentioning: * Sigma 19mm f/2.8 gets you faster shutter speeds (2/3 Stops) in low light (like indoors in the evening) and way sharper images (10 perceived mega pixels vs 6 pmpx on the 16-50 kit lens) . And it's as cheap as it gets for the e-mount. Use faster shutter speeds to account for the missing Optical Steady Shot OSS. * Sony 20mm f/2.8 the same with a better focus accuracy (more shots in perfect focus) with sharp images (9 pmpx). Use faster shutter speeds to account for the missing Optical Steady Shot OSS. * Sigma 30mm f/2.8 the same with 50% more zoom (9 pmpx). Use faster shutter speeds to account for the missing Optical Steady Shot OSS. * Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is just awesome (16 pmpx) for its price. I have heard that only 70% of the photos are in perfect focus (it focuses slower than the Sony lenses). Use faster shutter speeds to account for the missing Optical Steady Shot OSS. * Sony 35mm f/1.8 APSC OSS it's great with 11 pmpx sharpness and focus speed * Sony 50mm f/1.8 APSC OSS it's great with 13 pmpx sharpness and focus speed if you need that much zoom * Sony Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 perfect focus accuracy (>95%), great sharpness (13 pmpx), great focal length (24mm), great in low light, but expensive. You can find it 2nd hand for much less. Use faster shutter speeds to account for the missing Optical Steady Shot OSS. * Sony 18-105 f/4 OSS it's great when outdoors (9 pmpx), handles badly indoors in the evening (because of the f/4). * Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 it's just awesome with 16 pmpx even if a bit expensive. Lenses to avoid: * Sony 16mm f/2.8 not sharp at all and no OSS * Sony 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS gets the same Image Quality IQ as Sony 16-50 f/3.5-5.6 OSS * Sony 18-200mm OSS (7pmpx & 5pmpx for LE) should be much sharper for that price. www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Compare/Side-by-side/Sony-E-18-200mm-F35-63-LE-on-Sony-A6000-versus-E18-200mm-F3-5-6-3-on-Sony-A6000-versus-Sony-E-PZ-18-105mm-F4-G-OSS-on-Sony-A6000__1085_942_274_942_1215_942 Auto Focus is mandatory when taking photos of children because they just won't stand still for you to focus manually. www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Compare/Side-by-side/Sony-E-20mm-F28-on-Sony-A6000-versus-Sigma-19mm-F28-EX-DN-Sony-E-on-Sony-A6000-versus-Sony-E16-50mm-F35-56-on-Sony-A6000__1093_942_826_942_1082_942 www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Compare/Side-by-side/Sigma-30mm-F28-DN-A-Sony-E-on-Sony-A6000-versus-Sigma-30mm-F14-DC-DN-C-Sony-E-on-Sony-A6000-versus-Sony-E-Carl-Zeiss-Sonnar-T-24mm-F18-ZA-on-Sony-A6000__1102_942_1692_942_1155_942
Thanks a lot for the video! Very concise and informative. I'm considering buying a Sony A6000, and thought that buying a budget lens of 35 mm 1.7 would be a good idea, most of all to take night shots. Do you think that would be wise, or I should stick to the kit lens?
what do recommend for a great zoom lense for Sony a6000 that is budget friendly. I do a lot of wild life and nature shots over rivers and my current 55 to 210 mm isn't reaching.
+Elizabeth Beagle the Sony 70-300 would be the lens I would look at, but it's rather pricey. There is also the option of using a sigma mc-11 adapter and buying the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary lens or sports version.
I'm a beginner photographer and own the Sony a6000. I'm going to travel to San Diego soon and I really want to capture great shots, I like the kit lens, but I just want to upgrade. Can I have your best recommendation of which lens would be a versatile and necessary lens to upgrade to. I don't have a budget per say, but if I only needed one more lens, which one would be the best one to spend money on! Thanks, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Great content, love all your videos.
Your videos are really helpful, I just bought Sony A6000 with basic kit lenses. But I actually want to focus on making good videos Do i need to buy A6300 or A6000 with prime lenses
Hiiii!!! that1cameraguy greeting from Panama City, Panama. Sorry for the long comment! I know this is an old video but I wanted to thank you, cause all of your a6000 videos are very helpful I just came from an Canon 500D to a Sony a6000 in 2019. I'm struggling significantly to get sharp photos I had follow many tips on how to correct it but I feel I'm still not get in it (maybe I need to practice more). What you said from minute 7:15 to 8:10 is really true! a relative asked me to take portraits of her teenage daughter and for real those photos aren't sharp at all but they love it! they had applied some IG filters and that's it. I'm also tight on budget but I was thinking to get the **Sigma 30mm F1.4 Contemporary DC DN Lens for Sony E** (I like portraits and off course Bokeh) but I don't know if is a wise move? I know this isn't a portrait lens but I'm willing to try it as that.
Thanks for the video, Im planning to buy a6300 as my first camera as a hobby, actually Im visiting Italy for 10 days.what will be the best budget lens to buy with a6300?Can i take landscape photos with kit lens?
Really enjoyed your video! I was wondering if you could talk about the Samyang/Rokinon lenses. One particular lens I am interested in is the newly released Samyang 35mm F/2.8 AF and how it compares to other e-mount 35mm AF lens.
I don't have experience with those lenses, so I'd need to either buy them or grab a review unit somehow. It might be sometime before I can comment on them.
I am considering to buy 18-105 lens for better reach, as I feel constricted while using 16-50. Also, I don't like to change the lens a lot, and 55-210 has high aperture value, so I think 18-105 can be good. What's your take on that?
thank you for your humility on the Sony a6000 kit lens! I also got the 18mm Samyang as ultra wide. Awesome. I 'll do my first wedding for a friend. On the flash I bought a bouncing diffuser for $20 AUD. that is all I need for the moment.
Thanks for making this video. I've been shooting pictures and videos quite obsessively over the past year with my kit lens. However on my recent trip, It fell off my tripod and broke. I don't know if this is a good time for an upgrade or if I should just play it safe and repurchase the kit lens again.
Yeeah u got me, u gave me a good advice. Thx u for it. Its help me, before i buy some lenses. Then i'll mastered the kit lense, how to maximazed the kit lense
I recently purchased the a6300 with kit lens and the 55-210. One month later I purchased the 35mm 1.8. Yes It was an impulsive buy but it was on sale for 330, plus I had credit. I could not resist that deal. I'm signing up for classes to make sure I did waste my money.
Hey, I'm planning to get the a6300 but the bundle of the a6000 looks appealing because the include a kit and telephoto lens and the whole deal costs less than the a6300. I want to future proof buy buying the a6300 but the a6000 looks pretty good too. So please share your thoughts regarding this.
Hey I've been really enjoying your videos. I'm deciding between the a6000 vs a6300. I just like to take photos of food and posting on instagram. Which camera and lens combination would be the best? My budget is around $1200
Great video! Having experience from the canon system as well, how would you compare sony vs canon vs nikon(if you have experienced them too) basic kit lenses? Thanks!
Looking at getting either an A6000 or A6300 mostly for travel videos what would you recommend? Leaning more towards the A6300 for the future proofing with 4K and the better autofocusing just the extra cost is making me juggle between them, what would you say ?
great video, question for you. If i buy just the body of the a6000 without the kit lens, which lens would you recommend me i get, one one option? oh fyi im a beginner and this would be my first camera. I was also looking into the a5100, i would also like your input on that one also.
Thanks for video. What you think about 18-135 lens in compare with 18-105? I like kit lens but still need more zoom and ready to upgrade but cant make a decision between this two lenses)
I'm planning to buy Sony A6000 but there are two type of lens that is included, the 18-55mm and 16-50mm. Both will be on the same price. Which one should I buy the one with 18-55 or the 16-50mm. Appreciate your immediate response. Thank you.
I am considering Meike 12mm F2.8 or Samyang 12mm F2.0 for A5100. I own Meike 35mm and its a nice lens compare to the kit lens. I want to sell photo online but kit lens will no allow me to do that due to the sharpness of it. Do you think I should get Meike or Samyang for 12mm? Meike is half of the price for Samyang I could find.
Thanks for this video man! I really love you tutorials. It helps a lot specially for people like me who just starting photography and using Sony A6000. kudos brother!
Whats your thoughts on 18-105? getting it with a6300...does it have made difference if i had got it with the 16-50mm instead? and same some money for prime lens?
I have seen some videos on RUclips of a6000 where they are shot in normal movie mode but half way switch to show motion and then back to normal mode. is this done through the camera or an external program? if find via a setting in the camera could you inform how to use this function. thanx
Thanks for the lens info! I have been struggling with the sharpness issue doing a lot of landscape shots. Still don't know if it is a focus issue or a lens problem. I have some shots that are so clear and others that are not using the kit lens mostly at 16mm on my a6000. I know it's capable but not consistent. Can you recommend a focus technique best for landscapes and if I should upgrade to a dedicated wide angle what would be best. Thanks again!
I really love your a6000 videos, it helps me decide whether to get one or not. but let me ask you this, is a6000 still good today 2018?? I'm from a nikon d3100 and really in a tight budget. im considering getting this one. thanks for the answer! :D
Hi. I started with an NEX 3 and the kit lens. Couldn't really use the screen outdoors in bright light so I ended up springing for the 6000 because it has the viewfinder (and many other perks) and works well. Keep your 5100 to use for blogging and get a 6000 (or 6300, 6500) depending on what you want to spend. The 6000 is currently very inexpensive compared to when it was new and it is still selling well according to my local camera store. Any lens you get with it will be useful on any of the APS-C Sonys, should you upgrade in the future. Be sure to check out the differences so you get the model most useful to you depending on how you will use the camera now and in future.
The focus speed of the Sigma 30 1.4 is as good as a native sony lens and its very sharp.. Havent used any other sony lens other than the kit lens , so cant comment about any other sony lenses.
Awesome! I just bought a Sigma 30mm F2.8, but I kept the kit lens too. I like the 16mm for selfies or group shots. Just sticking with a 30mm is too restrictive for me, and I think the kit lens is quite sharp!
This dude kept it real...I was about to drop some cash on new lenses but him saying that I need to use my lense kit to the full potential really made me take a step back and reevaluate doing that
Got my a6000 last month. Found most of your videos about the A6000 are practically useful. Make more videos for a6000.
sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know a trick to log back into an Instagram account..?
I was stupid lost the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me

that1cameraguy Looking to buying the Meike 35mm. Thanks!!
I'm not a beginner, this is the best advice. it's the path I've taken myself and it pays off
Just got an A6000.
Thanks.
I got my 6000 today and it's my first camera. Your videos are my tutor at the moment 👼🏻
Great and simple teaching method.
Keep up the work
Just got a6000 last week as my first digital camera because watching many of your videos about this cam.
That's the attitude :) Keep using what you have, until you're ready to move up.
Also can you make videos teaching Lightroom or some tips enhancing your photos? Thanks!
I'm not an expert. I can only show the basics of what I do when I process images, which isn't all that exciting.
That may be just what I and many others need. The lightroom "experts" leave me dazed and confused. I have an A6000 and find your videos very helpful.
Why people still use lightroom if capture one pro is almost free for sony cameras?
First used this lens with a Nex-5t along with the 55-210. Now a few years later after using a7's with larger lenses,
this 16-50 paired with the a6000 is my go to for everyday use.
Thanks for your honest opinion. I just bought my a6300 last October. Still using my kit lens
I have had the camera for two years. Still got a ways to go, but i do understand what a new lens could help me with now.
After a few months I bought the SEL18105G. I still kept the kits lens for the wider focal length.
Edgar Cheung
I get comments about how sharp my photos look on FB but it is because they are comparing them with the ones they get with their phone or from a DSLR in full auto mode, which can be great in good light but generally fail in low light or sports.
I just think it's a cool cheap way for your viewers to realize the potential in some older glass with adapters if they are just getting into photography.
brilliant review, I have a a6000 with both kit lenses & a sigma 30mm 1.4. I learn so much from your videos, as a beginner
just picked up a sonya6300 with a kit lens for 900 NZD so pretty happy! Will upgrade to another lens, thanks for the video!
Great video! Getting a a6000 because of you!!! Could you please make a video about legacy lenses with adaptors. Would be great to learn!
Great video. Love your content. You've made the decision for me to keep my kit lenses for my A6100, the 16-50 + 55-210mm and my 35mm f1.8 OSS Lens.
Would you still recommend getting this camera in 2019? For the purpose of filming makeup tutorials and photographing makeup looks!
A6000 Got recording limit which sucks
@Don Mega nah not worth it to go the extra step. I rather buy the model which has no recording limit an is as good. Like the a6400
I'm late to the party here, I see this was posted in 2017, but it's great insight.
Got a Sony a6000 as a gift and I'm so happy I stumbled upon your channel! Thanks for all your help!!! Just ordered the 35 mm
+Alice K. Thank you for the kind words. I will try to answer the question in video on my next Sunday Q&A!
Plz suggest me 18-105 is enough for night photography Or 35 f1.8 ? I can't purchase both, tight budget.
I've decided to get the Meike 50mm 2.0. I want to get better low light photography. The max f3.5 of my 1855mm kit lens is a shame.
Thanks for the advice!
great video and thanks for the intro to using the kit lens, it's too easy to rush out and buy unnecessary glass!
Even the expensive $900 Zony 16-70mm f/4 is more of consumer enthusiast level, while Fuji has $1100 16-55mm f/2.8 that is made for professional
It's yearly rumor that sony will release better apsc lens and camera but at this point, it's more like a joke.
Please show a review about that flash.... Thank you...
Great videos, could you do some tips on taking portraits with the kit lens for the 50mm 1.8 fe.
Thanks a lot for all the a6000 videos!! I learnt a lot and enjoyed watching them all!!
Other Auto Focus options worth mentioning:
* Sigma 19mm f/2.8 gets you faster shutter speeds (2/3 Stops) in low light (like indoors in the evening) and way sharper images (10 perceived mega pixels vs 6 pmpx on the 16-50 kit lens) .
* Sony 35mm f/1.8 APSC OSS it's great with 11 pmpx sharpness and focus speed
* Sony 50mm f/1.8 APSC OSS it's great with 13 pmpx sharpness and focus speed if you need that much zoom
* Sony Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 perfect focus accuracy (>95%), great sharpness (13 pmpx), great focal length (24mm), great in low light, but expensive.
Lenses to avoid:
* Sony 16mm f/2.8 not sharp at all and no OSS
* Sony 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS gets the same Image Quality IQ as Sony 16-50 f/3.5-5.6 OSS
* Sony 18-200mm OSS (7pmpx & 5pmpx for LE) should be much sharper for that price. www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Compare/Side-by-side/Sony-E-18-200mm-F35-63-LE-on-Sony-A6000-versus-E18-200mm-F3-5-6-3-on-Sony-A6000-versus-Sony-E-PZ-18-105mm-F4-G-OSS-on-Sony-A6000__1085_942_274_942_1215_942
Auto Focus is mandatory when taking photos of children because they just won't stand still for you to focus manually.

Thanks a lot for the video! Very concise and informative. I'm considering buying a Sony A6000, and thought that buying a budget lens of 35 mm 1.7 would be a good idea, most of all to take night shots. Do you think that would be wise, or I should stick to the kit lens?
thanks for focusing on the Sony a6000. I need to get caught up and get out more but your videos always motivate me.
Great to hear. It's tough. I have those times where i don't want to shoot.
what do recommend for a great zoom lense for Sony a6000 that is budget friendly.
What would be a best choice for a lens for portrait photos during day and night conditions? I have A6000
Man!!!!!! I felt like we were talking over phone. You heard me. Now am satisfied to stick with 16-50, later to what my 💓 says. Thanks brother.
Your videos are really helpful, I just bought Sony A6000 with basic kit lenses. But I actually want to focus on making good videos
Do i need to buy A6300 or A6000 with prime lenses
Hiiii!!! that1cameraguy greeting from Panama City, Panama.
I really appreciate this video. The honesty is always appreciated and good points covered
What's your take on that?
you ever go with 18-105? I totally agree, im sooooo constricted with 18-50mm. I feel handicapped
Which lens do you recommend to zoom in on wildlife and take beautiful vacation landscapes.
I do a lot of indoor sports photography...hockey, basketball, wrestling. What lens would you recommend I purchase?
Thank for your videos, very helpful for beginner and also understanding the features of a6000.
Please do a review on that meike flash
Your videos are practical and honest and have really helped me take better pictures. Thank you so much!
+Joe Infranca thank you for the kind works. Glad they have helped
thank you for your humility on the Sony a6000 kit lens!
Good work dude. Just purchased an A6000 and still getting to know it.
I'm signing up for classes to make sure I did waste my money.
what's the best lens for filming using the a6000?
Probably zoom lens 18-105mm F4
35mm f1.8 OSS
Hey, I'm planning to get the a6300 but the bundle of the a6000 looks appealing because the include a kit and telephoto lens and the whole deal costs less than the a6300. I want to future proof buy buying the a6300 but the a6000 looks pretty good too. So please share your thoughts regarding this.
+Dyvik Gowda I have a video coming out tomorrow talking about this topic a little bit.
Im planning on buying the sony a6000 but I have a nikon d5300, maybe you can do a video comparison to be really sure.
Hey I've been really enjoying your videos. I'm deciding between the a6000 vs a6300. I just like to take photos of food and posting on instagram. Which camera and lens combination would be the best? My budget is around $1200
Do you only do videos on the 6000 ? Or on other Sony lenses ?
Please review the sony ecm-xyst1m microphone for the a6000, with sound test indoors and outdoors, thanks!
Hey Eduardo, I did a quick indoor audio test on my first vlog here: ruclips.net/video/xDIZA4ii4mk/видео.htmlm9s
Awesome content and close to the heart review. Thanks mate
An honest and practical video. Much appreciated.
would it be good a a6000 for my pattaya videos?
Thanks for video. What you think about 18-135 lens in compare with 18-105? I like kit lens but still need more zoom and ready to upgrade but cant make a decision between this two lenses)
Thank you so much for this video. I was confused which lens should I buy until I came across to your video. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
subscribed...i like how you interact and intimately talk...feels more personal...appreciated
Thank you for the real statement at the end 8:00
Thanks for this video man! I really love you tutorials. It helps a lot specially for people like me who just starting photography and using Sony A6000. kudos brother!
Whats your thoughts on 18-105? getting it with a6300...does it have made difference if i had got it with the 16-50mm instead? and same some money for prime lens?
I have seen some videos on RUclips of a6000 where they are shot in normal movie mode but half way switch to show motion and then back to normal mode. is this done through the camera or an external program? if find via a setting in the camera could you inform how to use this function. thanx
Hi
Is the kit lense good enough to capture landscape natural beauties?
I am just a beginner, buying the camera for vacation ahead.
I'm from a nikon d3100
and really in a tight budget. im considering getting this one. thanks for the answer! :D
Do you thing a view finder is necessary to exploit the potential of kit lenses? (I currently use a Sony Alpha 5100). Thanks for your videos!
I just sold my kit lens and bought sigma 30 1.4 - Very happy with my decision.
How do you rate the focus speed and accuracy compared to the Sony lenses?
The focus speed of the Sigma 30 1.4 is as good as a native sony lens and its very sharp.. Havent used any other sony lens other than the kit lens , so cant comment about any other sony lenses.
Awesome! I just bought a Sigma 30mm F2.8, but I kept the kit lens too. I like the 16mm for selfies or group shots. Just sticking with a 30mm is too restrictive for me, and I think the kit lens is quite sharp!
You don't have manual focus issue with Sigma?
The Sigma has been working wonders for me! Is yours not focusing properly?
