They definitely were on the brink to take off, but had a hard in so many aspects of the music industry after their guitarist committed suicide just shortly before the release of their debut album. In a Guardian interview released today (October 25th 2024), Sam Herlihy (the lead singer) elaborates on how they were considered 'doomslords' by their peers but didn't feel like it. Hope this helps, even a year after you asked.
This song brings back memories. I had broken up with a girl I was seeing at the time, was going though a generally rough patch anyway, I also happened to be reading one of my favourite books ever (The Wind Up Bird Chronicle), and this album was on constant repeat in my CD player. This album and that book were two of the only things that helped keep me sane during that time, and every time I hear this song in particular, I actually look back on that otherwise dark time with a strange fondness.
How many girls have you broken up with in the last 8 years since this comment ?? Or did you end up losing your hair and chose to breed with the nearest post wall 35yo
Hope of the states are back!!
The album is music, one of the best I've ever heard.

How were this band not huge ? Was lucky to see them in Wedgewood Rooms in Pompey.
