I liked this movie for the training montage. And Akshay Kumar's crazy faces he makes. Also, The Dad had a good back story and enjoyed everytime he was in the screens. His fight scenes were breath taking. Overall I liked it.
Man, I remember that cosmic kick scene giving me goosebumps when I watched it as a kid lol. It all looks goofy now but back then it was the coolest thing ever 🥹
I love how westerners think not so popular foreign cinemas should be like Hollywood having a one tone throughout the movie rather than representing their own culture as if western cinema and culture is the standard for the entire world to follow.
It's not about culture though, even in India there are movies with better tone and structure than this. The aim of any storyteller is to write in a way that doesn't drag the story so that the flow and the viewer engagement in the movie is sustained throughout it's runtime. There are many, many movies with better writing than this in India. This movie objectively is weak, even if fun.

I also appreciated how he mentioned a few tidbits about filmmaking through this. As someone who’s been behind the camera I think some things might not be impressive to him the way it is to us. These guys are really trying their level best to let their passion for Indian movies be shared with us. But what’s wrong in this? Story is fine, man gets beaten he learns kungfu and then takes his revenge. There were no flying cars like fast & furious. It’s just an action film with tons of comedy, why do people feel embarrassed to say they love this film?
I think this movie needed a lot of refining story wise and action wise too . Just like S.S RAJAMOULI does in his movies. He is the only director that makes unreal feal real. This movie had a lot of potential to become a bridge between two movie industries but failed to do so. As an desi perspective it is still a good comedy movie with a lot of inside jokes and many people this movie that. But it could have been more than just that.

Fun Fact : Akshay kumar is actually a trained martial artist, I'd love to see him in action comedy movies again but the thing is recently his ego has gotten into him he doesnt understand that audience doesnt demand quantity but he still treats movie making not art but a 9-5 job. His acting was sooo good in khel khel me but kya zaroorat tha back to back movie release karne that tooo clashing it with stree 2 and veda (both stunning movies in their own genre).

He is really good in taekwondo and Muay Thai which he learnt in Thailand. But his Shaolin kungfu training was done in 2004 when kungfu master kanishka taught him a bit of kungfu. The other guy u are talking about is from Hong Kong. Gordon liu is very well trained in Shaolin kungfu. He is master level . Akshay is a master in karate that's why he opened his own school to teach people. Only a 5 th dan or 6 th dan black belt holder is considered as a master and he can teach other people to become good martial artists. Lower than that level arent allowed. They are called disciples. That's why fighting him neck to neck in kungfu isnt a cup of tea for anyone. This movie was based on kungfu hustle and bits of kungfu panda. U will see all hong kong based martial artists like Jackie chan have kungfu as their main martial art If there was an option to make a karate based movie then u could have seen Akshay show his master skills.
