Hey there, this is my first ever camera/lens tech video and I would really love to improve over time. If you want to share feedback, feel free to do so in the comments. :)

Very underrated lenses, nice 3D look to them. With a softening filter they really look lovely. Pixel peepers complain about the chromatic aberrations but it’s really not a big deal, plenty of legendary lenses like Canon K35 and Arri ultra primes have CA

I love the neutral colours of Zeiss as well

The interchangeable lens mount is like a lens adapter that requires extra work. I prefer adapters, personally, because then I can shoot with many cameras that have various native mounts.

Wow beautiful footage at the end, iv the 25mm and the cp.2 85mm super speed currently for my Alexa classic, how do you find these lenses at full frame? Corners good?

Thank you! I really love those lenses on full frame. Sharpness is great and vignetting is not noticable. :)

18mm Zeiss CP.2 is not usable on Full Frame. You see literally the barrel :)

Is your Mattbox attached to your Rods and clamped to the front of the lens?
In my experience E-Mount is prone to have at least some play directionally as well as rotationally. That is why I always preferred adapting the Mount on the camera instead of the lens. Though IMS Mounts for „photography“ Mounts usually come with a threaded attachment, which can be used with a lens support. I also find it vital to secure the PL Adapter to the LWS or Cameracage. Depending on the size of your set, adapter are usually cheaper than getting individual mounts for your lenses.
The Size of the housings is largely due to conformity as you want your lenses to match in gearpositions, length and front diameter as close as possible to speed up lens changes when using a follow focus and swing away matteboxes. If the lenses are identical you can just swing away your mattebox, change the lens and „close“ the mattebox again, without the need to touch your follow focus or remove your mattebox completely. Not so much of an issue these days as people mostly use clamp on Matteboxes now. It‘s still nice to not have to move your follow focus or motor when changing a lens.
Small sidenote: You should tighten your mount screws in a cross pattern just like you would on the wheels of your car.

Thank you for your very informative comment! Yes, the mattebox is attached to the rods and clamped to the front of the lens. :)

Star pattern when tightening screws will also help.

I actually found a 35mm CP3 and a 100mm CP3 used that dropped in price right as Nano was released. Haven't used them as much as I wanted tho. Must say I rather gotten the 135mm but well you get what you can. I recently gotten the DJI Lidar, so I should try to use them a lot more. It would have been nice to have the nano ones ofc since you can mount a VND straight on the lens. But getting a used CP3 for the price that I got them makes it a no brainer anyway :) guess I just have to get a FX6 or something in the long run and don't worry about the NDs at all

hey thanks for the useful video! I just picked up a set of PL mount CP2's and want to try get some E mount IMS for them. Where did you track them down? I'm struggling to find any. You mention some IMS sets can be used on different CP2 primes, do you know which ones?

Thanks for your nice comment! :)
I got one on Ebay for 120€ and the one for the 50mm T1.5 on Teltec: teltec.de/en/zeiss-ims-set-e-2-9-15-1-5-35-50-85-2-1-50-85.html
If you go to the linked page you can see that this IMS not just fits the 50mm T1.5, but also the 15mm T2.9, 35mm T1.5, 85mm T1.5, 50mm T2.1 and 85mm T2.1.
Interestingly the 35mm T2.1 is not listed. It can be found together with some other focal lenghts here: teltec.de/en/zeiss-ims-mount-set-e-for-cp-2-21mm-28mm-35mm.html
It's detective work to find the right one to be honest ....

Wow, thanks so much! This is so helpful. I would be curious to know what the downsides are to just using a lens adaptor?
Thanks again for the great video - also, beautiful images! @@RobinSeifert

@@dan444 thanks again! :) I think the biggest downside of the IMS is its price you pay for every lens compared to just buying one adapter. But personally, I prefer having a lens that fits perfectly onto the camera, without having to use an adapter.

The test footage at the end of the video is really excellent. Did you happen to use any filters during filming? If you did, what kind of filters did you use? I'm curious if this look was achieved without filters.

Hey there! Thank you so much. :)
Really good eyes you got there. I've used the Black Mist Filter (1/2) from K&F Concept. The simple reason is that Zeiss lenses tend to be very sharp and I prefer a more diffused, dreamy look. :)

I’d have loved to see without a filter so we see what the reward of the actual work produces and then can see with filters etc.
But that aside, your video was really nice, interesting, shot well. Just wish I can see the lens without any filters 😢
      But nice video 🥇

    AMAZING VIDEO!
have you ever tried the cp3 xd on the sony fx6 camera ?
do you think that t 2.1 is good for low light situation ?
if I use them with my sony fx6 at 12800 dual native iso will it display some noise or no ?
does they have that creamy look without using any filter ?
    thank you .

    • @RobinSeifert
      @RobinSeifert  Год назад +1

      Thank you! :)
I haven`t tried the CP.3s but I would really love to! I think in combination with the good low light performance (ISO 12800) of the FX6 it might be enough.
But I have to admit that I try to avoid noise as often as possible. Shooting at 12800 ISO will give noticable noice, which you need the right tools/plugins to remove - which I don´t have.
That´s why I shot this video (ruclips.net/video/xYi4Pv8rIa8/видео.html) at ISO 800, with the CP.2 50mm at T 1.5, even though it was at NIGHT!
Conclusion: I always prefer the higher f-stop instead of using higher ISO.
Hope that was helpful in a way. :)

@@RobinSeifert thank you so much that was defntly helpful . another question if possible do you think that the milvus superspeed t 1.4 can provide a creamier cinematic look even if it a still lens ? if so which filter should I use with it for creamier skin tones apart from the black pro mist filter? cauz I hate it lol
