With how many people there are in Asmons community its 100% possible. Imagine on release people split into 2 teams, one builds gondor, the other rohan. And you could even get some guys to role play as the guardians of the beacons, make it an epic event. All the 30 year old nerds are living for shit like that
Sometimes player made structures can really be inspiring to other gamers. I made a really cool stone tower with a really dramatically embellished top level on top of a mesa in a desert in a game once. The structures needed to be maintained once a week or they would start to degrade. I stopped playing the game for over 2 years, but when I came back to check it out again because it was shutting down in a month, my tower was still there. Two years had gone by, and there had been passersby over those over 100 weeks that took the time to clean up my abandoned tower just because of how impressive it looked looming on the horizon even while it was surrounded by the corroded ruins of less impressive abandoned structures.
So like real life? The highest achievements of the ancient civilizations, which still stand, are preserved by current civilization (most of these buildings are claimed by current civilization, but whatever, the result is the same. It inspires, and they are maintained.)
I really hope they get the combat done well. That will make this one of the best games of the decade or leave it as a good builder but nothing special.
My only criticism towards this game is the same as towards most if not all medieval themed games: castles were not mossy ruins when they were new. Their walls were usually plastered white, so they would shine in the sunlight and could be seen from miles away, it was a flex and a projection of power. This bare-bones look was usually a thing for forts mostly, especially later on when they started using bricks more in the star-shaped forts that came after cannons became popular around the 1500's. Too bad we do not have accurate depictions of castles in media, they probably looked magnificent in their hay-day! On a side-note, the pyramids in Giza looked very different too, they were covered in white marble, were smooth and their tips had golden plating. Now that probably shined like the nuclear flash in the desert sun!

The architects/designers/builders are 100% benefiting the most from this. Asmongold gathering a bunch of people to gather resources to build a castle and directing it all to the builders and they now have the resources to actually do stuff like this. And they've been doing amazing work.
The devs are farming so much interaction with this game through this. I personally absolutely adore the project so far and will definitely try it out when it releases.
I feel like half of the top should be one solid central keep, rather than several smaller connected keeps. 8:22 the whole right upper section being a solid tall rectangular structure, and the slightly lower left area being the courtyard.
Asmon should definitely react to some 40k lore. Really interesting and frankly, insane. Bricky did a good video series explaining the different factions
More of a stone city than a castle. The fortifications of the walls especially leave a lot to desire. It looks formidable, but it could be made to be a lot more defensible
At some point, we are just going to want to be in a castle together. No need for fighting. Just in a castle together. If its a good castle. Thats what counts.
That's damn impressive. But to be honest, if this was built in three days and it wasn't several hundred players working non-stop, the material grind might be a bit unbalanced. A decay mechanic sounds like a great idea as well. It could affect all surfaces depending on exposure and maybe even traffic. How is the performance near such complex structures?
my thoughts about the last question at the end of the video: JUST an easy example, but imagine monster hunter wilds will have a similar beginning like world, but instead of just being on that ship with only a bunch of npcs, you are actually there with your guildmates too. everything is more large scale, but without killing the initial immersive feeling, we all had while first playing the game. so those things are made right and are just mhw but largescale, but then the next thing would be, instead of entering the already fully built astera, you build your own base with your guildmates. a massive unique base somewhere in the wilds, that just looks as awesome as what you can do in pax dei, but in a way that fits that new monster hunter game and in a way that this base is now really part of the world, instead of just having hartscripted events, that will try to make you feel that way. and this works for ANY game (just used monster hunter as an easy example and i really don't want this franchise switching into a mmo, unless it's working 100% without killing anything). so you can have the same system, the same core gameplay, the same type of quest system, the same effects on your environment for any shit you did in this game, like in any franchise you could possibly imagine, but you can have it as mmorpg, or just mmo. so you can add everything you know that would it make mmo like, such as guild wars, raids etc and it would work, unless it doesn't fit your whole game itself. but so far, no game i know did this right in a way, that everyone would agree it is the right thing to do. and that's the reason, why we have to do story content first to some extend in so many games, before we can touch multiplayer. that's the reason, why so many games are NO mmo, despite having the potential of being an interesting one. and that's also the reason, why existing mmos are lacking stuff you would play other games for and why so many worlds in mmorpgs are literally just dead and only trying to look the opposite, while everything that's "real" just happens in raids or quests and only for the people who enter them. so the issues are mostly coming from having too much shit going on, when every person could trigger big events, while other persons maybe not even part of it, because they are doing other things and often not even playing the game. because of this, it is extremely hard to make a game really that "open", when multiple players are involved, since some of them will just not get the same, if any experience at all. you can prevent this by having small servers and groups who can organize them, or just singleplayer where you can also lock those big things behind a story mode again. but the only real solution i see for a mmo style game like this, is to just fuck with everything, letting ai generate wild story sequences on the fly, hardscript NOTHING and whenever anyone just don't want to play this mess anymore, well there is always the option to start a new server and so a new game, with other, more, less, or even no people involved, to get a whole new experience... AND THIS will be the revolution, because games won't be stale anymore, without needing to get stupid "content" patches like most games do wrong.
4:50 I thought it would have been badass if Olympus had walled off that upper side there, the path snaking through that cliff there that those other guys built their castles/houses on. That would have been a good 'rear' side to defend. Still awesome to see, good work to all the builders.

What? it does have dynamic lighting. Perhaps you mean increased shadow distance? Games typically have really low real time shadow distance as even a 4090 will come to a crawl with long distance shadows. Instead games rely on static lighting shadows to create long distance shadows and the final result being long distant scenery shadows on static objects and low distant real time shadows on dynamic objects. Static in a games case would mean anything placed by the devs before build time and that doesnt move. Dynamic meaning anything that moves or is placed after the game is built, such as by players.
really nice. Love how there are player houses built in all around the place. Need to put lots of torches or fire/light sources all over so it is a beacon at night time.
I wound up with my own key and started day 1 of the Alpha 2. Sadly by the time I saw which server you guys were on it was full. I focused on crafting and learning vs building since its only a one week test. The crafting systems go really deep. I'm so excited for a longer term beta. Pretty much every crafting specialty is reliant on multiple other specialties. In Alpha its already very impressive. I haven't been this excited for a game since vanilla launched!
Yea, the game looks stunning. Though, the character models physical appearance needs some refining, but most importantly-everything related to character movement needs a remaster. The character portrays appears finicky/janky looking. Hot Points: *Dynamic, Fluency, and Fluidity* • Is there a player utility counter? Player’s physical stats; gather and building rates (etc)? If not, that’d be cool, no?! • Agreed, the aerial sweep feature is cool, but it feels/appears like a cheat; exploring should be encouraged. If this game transitions into anything competitive, then it should most def be discontinued. Maybe offer sweep allowance to all, 24 hours prior to server wipe, something like that? 🤷🏼♀️
I realized it when asmon looked at the smaller castles of random people around his metropolis: It would be sick if guilds could take smaller guilds as Vassals.
Had a BLAST in A2 Yeah combat leaves things to be desired...but this game is special bros Give it a chance. And by chance I mean a few years. No NPCs. No towns/cities. No economy & industry until we build it I'm down to be a part of gamings most ambitious social experiment and if the combat is a lil janky in the meantime it's all gucci Be patient. Live by the "I want better games" mantra u claim and forgive the devs for spending more time on the long range social dynamic planning than they are having a polished combat for the casual fans.
Someone raged, got kicked, then deleted the structures that were in their plot. It was mostly just a second set of stairs to the top so it wasn't a huge deal but still. Definitely something that will need a solution for release.
Asmongold: Everything the light touches... But what about that shadowy place? Olympus Members: That's beyond our borders. You must never go there alone Asmongold.
Osgiliath build just randomly starts in front of this build. LOL Also, I'm sure the devs have seen this and are going to be very apprehensive wiping this build when it's comes out of beta.XD

You need a screenshot of everyone geared and lined up on the ramparts when it's finished.
Yea, the game looks stunning. Though, the character models physical appearance needs some refining, but most importantly-everything related to character movement needs a remaster. The character portrays appears finicky/janky looking.
Hot Points:
*Dynamic, Fluency, and Fluidity*
• Is there a player utility counter? Player’s physical stats; gather and building rates (etc)? If not, that’d be cool, no?!
• Agreed, the aerial sweep feature is cool, but it feels/appears like a cheat; exploring should be encouraged. If this game transitions into anything competitive, then it should most def be discontinued. Maybe offer sweep allowance to all, 24 hours prior to server wipe, something like that? 🤷🏼♀️
I realized it when asmon looked at the smaller castles of random people around his metropolis: It would be sick if guilds could take smaller guilds as Vassals.
This is the kind of thing i like to do solo in Rust so to do this as a community must be so epic.
The guy is truly the ONE TRUE KING
They really need to add some cosmetics for the walls and buildings, maybe even make them customizable
the fact they brought back 'olympus' as the group name, and they built their settlement around a huge mountain is just the perfect combination
Best addition would be nice floor/tile textures which could be placed.
Had a BLAST in A2
Yeah combat leaves things to be desired...but this game is special bros
Give it a chance. And by chance I mean a few years.
No NPCs. No towns/cities.
No economy & industry until we build it
I'm down to be a part of gamings most ambitious social experiment and if the combat is a lil janky in the meantime it's all gucci
Be patient. Live by the "I want better games" mantra u claim and forgive the devs for spending more time on the long range social dynamic planning than they are having a polished combat for the casual fans.
what happens if someone leaves the clan and their area is a major part of the build?
I was curious about this too
Someone raged, got kicked, then deleted the structures that were in their plot. It was mostly just a second set of stairs to the top so it wasn't a huge deal but still. Definitely something that will need a solution for release.
Damn they killed this build. The fact that there was a irl architect to help is next lvl clutch
This castle exists IRL, it's called "mont saint michel" in France
Asmongold:
Everything the light touches... But what about that shadowy place?
Olympus Members:
That's beyond our borders. You must never go there alone Asmongold.
Grimma: "But my lord, there is no such force."
Asmon's team: "Hold my beer." 🤣
This gonna be a retro medieval "cyberpunk-packed metropolis" in a week, damn I'm loving this.
Every castle needs a dungeon… they will have to add terraforming of some kind
This is like building a camp with your friends as kids but in a digital space!
Osgiliath build just randomly starts in front of this build. LOL Also, I'm sure the devs have seen this and are going to be very apprehensive wiping this build when it's comes out of beta.XD
Best part of every game. Craft gather build. Make it solo everything with just others around. ...so fun and now in every genre ....
