This is good video. No ‘debate’ on Singapore vs Malaysia . In fact, local Chinese foodie bloggers are mixing culture/history into their food talks. Here, a heavy food talk with tiny little commercial. 👍
@@MaxChernov fyi, Jalan Alor is NOT night market for locals. Doing a food talk show there was a great idea. The true night market is in Connaught. There, different nationalities introduce their foods. Mainland Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, pizza, even 1 stall selling burritos. 99% customers are young Chinese. Mile of them. There is a Malay truck selling nasi lemak. What I try to say, KL eating market is huge, there’s something for everyone.
Lucky you chose Udang Merah durian, I feel it is the least pungent but the sweetest and the creamiest in texture akin to custard with the mildest onion taste. Mustang King has much stronger bitterness and more onion taste.
Hokkien noodle is actually indigenous to South East Asia where Chinese immigrants brought over their recipes and evolved over many generations. It is believed to have descended from Loh Mee (also another Hokkien noodle dish). Like many others said here, that Hokkien Mee you had is not from Mainland China, but a KL speciality. It is called Hokkien Mee just because the original cook is of Hokkien (Fujian) heritage. It's too oily and lardy for me personally. And on alcohol and durian, there seems to be some truth to it. There is a study by Tsukuba Univeristy on this. That stinkiness in durian comes from having a lot of sulphurous compounds, and sulphur can put a burden on your liver. That slows down your body's capability to process alcohol.
aha this chef i remembered him, btw you shall ask him the right pronunciation of macaron, croissant, cream brouile and all the popular French desert, it hilarious we all pronounce it all wrong :D, i am from northern state of malaysia, for sure can pronounce it correct we got the throat sound too over here
It's like this. Durian and alcohol it will making you hot in side.the hot Ness hit different , Just like eat chili and black peppers , combin this 2. It is not that dangerous but it is living a dangerously life
Good performance for both chef. Myself enjoyed it. The dark stir fried noodles is created by Malaysian Chinese, you can't find this dish in China. First time taste durian you feel strange, but if you keep follow up for several times, and you will enjoy like hell ya ...
Although there is a variation of food here, but the price is very expensive, you can buy the same food in any other place in kl for half the price and tastier, but I guess if u looking for some variety, it's a good place, which is a place that I will never go again probably
Jalor Alor is the most Touristy Street to try out Malaysian street food . Brother could have gone anywheres that not overpriced and more localized but not Jalan alor T_T
But it's convenient if you wanna try different dishes. Also the taste isn't bad and reason it's touristy is because of the price and I don't think that's their concern. I personally would bring my foreign friends there it just saves so much trouble traveling to different places.
what are you talking about every tzi char stall sells different dishes. You can travel to other parts of KL and get a variety of dishes. Even as a singaporean i know this. Jalan alor is the worst place to bring foreigners too as the taste is considered soso. @@MagicalKid

Hi, dear. If you want more different cultures and cuisine from West Malaysia, you can come to East Malaysia which is Sarawak and Sabah. Sarawak capital city Kuching. Sabah capital city is Kota Kinabalu. Sarawak and Sabah is located at Malaysia Borneo.
You can't eat durian when you drink alcohol that made with yeast. for example rice wine. Durian almost purely carbohydrate. If you eat and drink ricewine, then second fermentation in your stomach.

Durian best friend is mangosteen. It balance everything. Cool the body. Merci Beaucoup to Mr. French chef.
Yup, because durian is a hot fruit, and mangosteen is a cold fruit
Also there's a reason why mangosteen is called the "queen if fruits"
what ever kind of fruits u eat in this world must be in pair, heaty fruits must be eaten with cooling fruits.
Thats gonna be a bit too much sugar overload.. both very sweet and high in fructose

As a local KL boy totally agree with your assessment, that's why I no longer holiday in spore, rather go tokyo
Cause of the low rate exchange of MYR, probably better to stay in Malaysia.
2:45 - "We found the french food" - FRENCH FRIES (background mario song)
ME - sudden burst of laughing while eating 🤣🤣🤣 (food all over the floor)
😂
@Max Chernov that really hurts french people's ego and pride.
Entertaining collaboration. I want to go to this market and try some of these items after viewing.
You should!

This is good video.
No ‘debate’ on Singapore vs Malaysia
.
In fact, local Chinese foodie bloggers are mixing culture/history into their food talks. Here, a heavy food talk with tiny little commercial. 👍
its not even commercial, its just I like Chef and wanted to support his business
Yeah udang merah is good, loves it.
Hokkien noodle is actually indigenous to South East Asia where Chinese immigrants brought over their recipes and evolved over many generations. It is believed to have descended from Loh Mee (also another Hokkien noodle dish).
My family would always order 1 set of Hokkien noodles and 1 set of Wat Tan Hor (Cantonese fried noodles with Silky Egg Sauce)
Good info 👌
滷麵 loo-mi in China is very different from how Malaysian cook it

Max, did you know that the word, HOKKIEN MEE, literally means “Fujian Noodles”, is a series of related Southeast Asian dishes that have their origins in the cuisine of China’s 🇨🇳 Fujian ( HOKKIEN ) province.

would u be interested in dining with strangers 👀

You can cure your own egg yolk. Just put egg yolk in a tray of coarse salt and cover the top of the yolks with more salt. After 1 week its ready
Thank u for this wonderful video n for also showing your food explorations at Jalan Alor.

chef jean is cute. Love his accent.
I had durian smoothie in Bangkok few months back and loved it. It was delicious but I've never tasted durian on its own. This was a fun video. 👌
If you can, get Malaysian durians rather than Thai. The soil produces better durians. Also there are many different types of durian so do your research, though if you're too lazy I recommend D24 for noobs and Mao Shan Wang for a bit more bittersweet (but more expensive) flavour.

the interaction between you guys is so cute
Its almost midnight and you're making me hungry 😂
And though chef Jean obviously speaks with a French accent, but he sounds Malaysian at the same time, that's so interesting
😁
what you had was kl hokkien mee. in northen states, hokkien mee is a soup noodle made of prawn broth or what we in kl call "prawn noodle".
also, consuming durian with alcohol/carbonated water will create a huge gas built up in your body which may cause discomfort.
You 2 are fantastic. I really enjoy it!
French Malaysian Fusion food!! Can't wait to check it out in September 🤤
5:14 normally the lala is added with chinese cooking wine. Steam or fried they will add the cooking wine to make it fragrant.
Your english reminded me of malaysian english.. i love it.. the slang, damnn.. you both are hilarious and awesome..
Max, i am very surprised at all the expats you knew or interviewed in both sg and malaysia. How do you meet them?
Dedicated networking :)

8:25 If you like sweet durian, yes... musang king is the best choice. Tekka is better balance imho. Not too sweet, not as pungent as musang king. Me... I prefer the East Malaysian orange durian. Has a taste that is like peanut butter. Yummy!
If you spend more time in malaysia, you'll be localised. You will start to like spicy food and perhaps some smelly food ( durian, smelly fried tofu, petai, tempoyak etc) and speak manglish. Ha ha.

Chef Jean is a cool personification of Gerrard Depardieu.
What I like about you Max is that you take criticism positively and willing to understand locals (Malaysians) by taking off that one "controversial" vlog. Your content is becoming more likeable by Malaysians in general. You've just got a new subscriber here.
Chef, you should try steamed lala with ginger. Its awesome
They did ! But better use moon lala. Normal lala too small for me.

His english with french accent reminds me of my french lecturer . Juz love the way they pronouncing things
jalan alor is a place where tourist goes. local people dont normally eat there, unless they live or work nearby.
Local people would go there for lunch during daytime
Awesome Content again Max... I'm hooked on your channel.. Cheers !...
That was my plan 😁
Chef Jean! Used to be my lecturer, a very good teacher.
The 2 of you have a nice chemistry. ;)
Chef Jean seems like fungi. 😂
Thanks, you guys are funny🤣🤣🤣
😁
Durian Udang Merah also in high level standard/category of Durian..
cant wait for durian croissant😂
Enjoyed the foodie video. Yummy, would have ordered similar dishes on the menu.
That slows down your body's capability to process alcohol.
aha this chef i remembered him, btw you shall ask him the right pronunciation of macaron, croissant, cream brouile and all the popular French desert, it hilarious we all pronounce it all wrong :D, i am from northern state of malaysia, for sure can pronounce it correct we got the throat sound too over here
dia sebut durian pun doyan weh. Mcm org perak dah
@@akifa9635 yup org utara akan sebut perkataan french dengan tepat sekali, kami dah selalu buat dalam perbualan biasa.
When i hear them speak, reminded me of pink panther show... Inspector Clouseau..
1:35 The shop behind you is quite famous (Wong Ah Wah). But this topic is street food.
durian is also aphrodisiac ........like seafoods with zinc but durian with potassium, minerals and sugar spikes...great hard stiffness for 2hours
you should go sabah sarawak
I enjoy the thick accent reviewing local cuisines.
PART 3 lets GOOOOOO~~~~~
Здравствуйте Max . Мне нравится ваш канал. И спасибо вам большое. 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆👍👍👍👍👍
i love how you say durian like "doyan"
I' malaysian..i LOVE durian so much.. 😂
Hokkien Mee not from China It is called Hokkien Mee just because the original cook is of Hokkien (Fujian) heritage.
There's still a wide variety of Chinese cuisine waiting to be explored. You all should consider trying more of it.
The Musang King is already in season guys. Try 'Ezydurian' or any durian shops in PJ.
It's been a while since I hear" le francais" pardon my French. Sub! Glad you like Malaysia food!
It's like this. Durian and alcohol it will making you hot in side.the hot Ness hit different ,
Just like eat chili and black peppers , combin this 2.
Although there is a variation of food here, but the price is very expensive, you can buy the same food in any other place in kl for half the price and tastier, but I guess if u looking for some variety, it's a good place, which is a place that I will never go again probably
you both look like brothers lol
Malaysian food is full of flavour & spices! You have been warned. By the way, in this country, durian is eaten as a dessert or with rice 👌🏻💖
This guy has the perfect mix of malaysian accent but french pronubciation of words mixed when he speaks...
I saw the beer.... I saw the durian.... That's a combo right there.
"same..." 🤣🤣🤣 00:29
we found french food...tadaaa french fries🤣🤣
lol this is gold 😅
haha that was literally a lot of fun!
Yeah
Next dining place.. Dali!!
I'm waiting for durian season in July..yeah Musang King and Musang Queen or whatever..just watch out..🤣
King of durian is musang king, Queen of durian is tekka, but for me king of liqour is XO
@@keangwooichoo6138 yes.. but sometimes I prefer the humble D24 .. 😁
When Penang friends come to KL usually look for Hokkien Mee (Black version)
Mreka sdg mngaburi mata korang smua dgn rview acah² honest. 😂
Drink tiger before and after durian 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 these 2 guys stomach didn’t explode :)
Do be careful with eating durian and alcohol. It's a myth but let's be on the careful side. I'm glad you enjoy Malaysia street food. Hope you have a wonderful time anywhere you go.
5k likes already...we want part 3
i like the it when the french man says "dughian"
Well done Jean🎉
When your French friend called the clams lala, he is French no more😂
Happy to see my pastry chef here.
Welcome to Malaysia❤
The very spot the hokkien mee was invented is in petaling street.
Very Expensive. Kangkung (Chinese spinach)
The way chef catches u laughing.. 😂..
my French friend , try rendang made with bird eye chillies for the spice flavour can be found in negeri sembilan
You can cook lala/clams with chinese cooking wine
Would love to see them try tempoyak~ 😂
Is he your brother? Both of you resemble each other so much.
I want to try french fusion, but so hard to find the halal, hope u can serve halal food also❤❤❤
Durian season coming. Alot of plantations fruit harvesting at the same time.
