I have never seen your channel until I saw this video pop up. I have to say, I cried along with you! I just had to put my 12 yo dog to sleep 3 days ago. The pain is real! I've been depressed all week. I had a dog a long time ago that looked just like Sammy. He was my favorite dog, so it brought back a lot of memories of him. I'm so sorry for your loss. I do believe you were correct in that it was already too late by the time you found him. You only have about an hour give or take after it happens to get treatment before irreversible damage occurs. My mastihound had that happen to him. I realized it right at that point. I was dialing my vet as I was loading him in my car. I got there in 45 minutes. They rushed him to surgery and he was about 10 minutes from needing a blood transfusion. My surgery only cost 4200. I think 8000 is highway robbery. I'm so sorry for your loss. Pyrenees are such good dogs. My heart goes out to you and your family. ❤

That place the vets in Monroeville w.v. I will never ever go there. That was so cold and and mean spirited to not care enough to just let a family feel safe about their other animals. It's an autopsy not a whole funeral. They are supposed to be compassionate caring loving veterinarians so I thought. My mistake, I hope God hugs all of you and holds you close in your time of need and brings you some peace and comfort. ❤❤❤❤❤

@@theravenleichan2905I have lost both. Indeed super profound.
Loosing my Son and the two pups after. Trinity and Spirit. We had Trinity when our son was still alive....we got a pup named Spirit and named her after my Son"s nearly a year anniversay after he died.
But when Spirit died suddenly like this Sammy did...One day okay/One day not...similar to our Son's passing. It became again Profound. Our Trinity (an all white husky)...Sammy reminds me of her. But when Spirit died....She seemed a farewell to the held and cherished, support, and gift of presence to help us heal of our Son's departure and capture of his Spirit. In fact, as our dear Spirit pup siezed up and as I cried in her fur....I told her to "go find Stanley" our Son. To go find "Trinity, our White Angel Husky" They found Spirit and she greeted Jesus with them as Trinity skirted around and passed ahead of Jesus and ran right for her in an excited greeting.
Spirit met our Son for the first time and the three of them became a Trinity.. In Heaven. Safe and well. Spirit....she had a big job to do with her life and she took us on with her whole heart...without question of how big the job was or how difficult it could be. She healed our broken hearts with her Love and left us with her Love in our hearts. Healing us, yet reminding us of Profound Love.
God rest our Spirit. We miss her dearly.

There is no a great long term success for turned stomach...it tends to reoccur. Blood in stool can also be caused by eating something that upsets the stomach, then as clearing from the body strain can cause blood. Not much blood but enough to notice.

I’m so sorry for your loss. My 5 year old beagle mix was recently diagnosed with nasal sarcoma and was devastated with the news. He was overall healthy and the cancer had not spread so I decided to proceed with radiation treatments despite just being laid off work and I’m happy to say he’s doing well. All the doctors and staff at UPenn were fabulous and treated him with loving care. Yes it was expensive and I’ll be in debt for a very long time but just wasn’t ready to say goodbye. I can understand your situation and agree he probably wouldn’t have made it through surgery so I think you did the right thing. Prayers for you and your family.

We had a Great Pyrenees for Fifteen years. The most loyal, loving dog We ever had. We loved Thomas, he was part of our family. He loved being outside even though he had his own building equipped with beds, heat for winter and fans for summer. He would even stay out in a thunderstorm even though he had a nice dry place to stay. We had goats and chickens etc. He was always watching over them, he was their protector. He loved our children and all the neighbors children, he would run and play chase with them and fetch the ball and lay around the grass with them while they visited. Somehow, he broke his back during a thunderstorm one night. We took him to the vet. At fifteen years of age the Vet said he had lived past most in his breed, and there was not much hope of fixing his back and suggested We let him go. It broke our hearts but We knew he was really suffering. We spent some sweet time with him for the last time and hugged him goodbye and held him speaking softly to him as he gently closed his eyes and left this world to cross the rainbow bridge. I think of him everyday when I go out to the garden, as he always greeted me at the back door. He was a gentle giant and We loved him dearly. We still miss him everyday.

🐶 Newbie to your channel…I am truly amazed at the strength and conviction you and hubby have shared taking on the responsibility of autopsying your beloved Sammy so as to verify cause of his sudden loss of life. Shame on those emergency vet offices as I once had resorted to such. They are extremely overpriced and in my humble opinion are more concerned with the mighty dollar then the human compassion of saving one’s beloved fur baby based on an individual’s ability to pay such outlandish fees. I’m humbled over your ability to have performed what truly had to have been a most heart wrenching task. Again I pray Sammy’s puppies will bring forth renewed hope.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve had Danes my entire life and have dealt with bloat a couple of times, and those symptoms looked very similar. Once the stomach flips, it releases toxins in the body, so you don’t have much time. My Dane had trouble walking and rapidly lost color in her gums, I couldn’t find her, she just went to pass. I was able to get to her in time and get her to vet. It’s very common with larger chest cavity dogs, as I think you said. I’ve been told to not feed or water and then let them run or pivot, for at least 30 minutes, which may be difficult to control with outdoor dogs. I’ve been told just a cup of water or food may do it if they take off directly thereafter. Hope this helps and Merry Christmas.

He lasted 3 days before I put him down. His last day was horrible and I couldn’t watch him suffer anymore! He had a full blown seizure/stroke. Heart wrenching to go through! @Gabriëlla1976 she was waiting for her husband, who had the truck, to help her. HOW, was she supposed to lift Sammy herself and get him into a vehicle. That would have caused so much more pain and suffering. And remember, she has SIX young kids she would have to take with her, IF there is a 2nd vehicle. Plus, financially, if you don't have the money, what vet would do anything for Sammy? I tried to get a stray female cat fixed by a small town vet, to help it get into a home. The vet said it had to run all kinds of blood tests, and an EKG to make sure it was healthy enough for being spade, and that it would cost about $500 dollars!
SO many vets are NOT there for the animals, there are only in it for whatever monies they can get out of it.
I'm just saying, I can see how much compassion you had about Sammy, but maybe show a little for her as well. That is a horribly hard situation to be put into.

Your dog was poisoned. Rat poison causes extreme bleeding and basically, any animal who ingests it bleeds to death. If not treated, the kidneys, liver, and heart can be affected but I don't know for sure if it would cause breakdown of the organs, which is what it sounds like was happening to Sammy. You said he was barking earlier on the day he was found near the fence. Could someone have come by and given him something laced with the poison? Has there been any other families who have had dogs or cats die recently under similar circumstances? Have you had issues with anyone concerning your dogs? I had a dog who went in to be spayed and as she was coming out of aneathesia, starting hemorrhaging from her mouth and nose. It was determined she had been rat poisoned,. We didn't know how but because she was used to running around (she had been a stray before I got her and I had her for about a month before this happened), the vet said she could have gotten into some trash that had it in it. I spent the next 30 days nursing her and making sure she got her daily vitamin k - which is the only treatment and can be expensive. If we had not caught it when we did (she got it in her within 24 hours of surgery), there would have been nothing we could do. I am so very sorry for your family's loss of Sammy. He looked like he was a very much loved teddy bear! I hope you find out for sure what happened to him and take the appropriate actions so you , or any other family - doesn't go through this again!

I don’t understand why she didn’t wanna bring her in when they could of possibly helped Sammy, but then gets upset after they waited for the dog to pass, on the basis of leaving the dog outside in the freezing cold to learn after the fact the cause. Of course a vet doesn’t wanna see a pet after the fact as an emergency visit when at that point it’s too late to even save the dog.

I am sooo very sorry for your great loss 😭 and the very difficult experience you went through with your dear Sammy. I nearly died from Covid in 2021, I am a ventilator survivor and my entire world imploded after that horriffic nightmare. My two fur babies were thankfully taken care of by my wonderful friend who took amazing care of them while I was in the hospital for 48 days and had to recuperate for several months after. He had them for almost 4 months. Prior to me getting sick, my beloved Jack Russell Maya had been having issues with her front paws being swollen. I had taken her to several vets that could never find out what was wrong and just said it was inflammation and prescribed Metacam. Her bloodwork then was all ok. I was giving her that and it seemed to help some. She was healthy in every other way. I had taken her to a supposed Holistic vet just before I got sick and did another blood test that was fine. He prescribed Loxicom which is like Metacam. My friend was giving her that while they were in his care throughout my terrible situation. my girls were very sad and confused to where I had gone to and why they were staying in someone else’s home. When able to while in the hospital, I facetimed with my friend so that they could hear my voice and so that I could see them and how they were doing. They were very depressed before the facetime videos but after I could see that their moods picked up once they heard my voice. They were still confused but happier. That made my heart swell with happiness since I could not be with them. 4 months later when I came home, I had them back finally. What an incredible reunion but Maya seemed worse. I took her back to this “holistic vet” and told him what had happened to me and that money was very tight and could he help me out with her care until I could get back to work. He was a complete jerk and did not care at all about my story or situation nor cared at all about helping my baby girl. My friend offered to pay the $250 for her bloodwork and this time it came back very bad. She was in kidney failure and when the vet actually called to give me the results, he very coldly said “Maya unfortunately has kidney failure and she will prob. only last a month!! If you need me to help her cross over, give me a call!!” That was it 😱 no I am sorry, nothing!! And that would be another few hundred $ 😡 She passed in my arms 2 weeks later 😭 I researched Loxicom and Metacam and they can cause kidney failure so be very careful if you use them for your beloved pets!! It’s the same for us taking Acetaminophen which hurts our kidneys. I know your pain of feeling helpless to help your beloved family member. Vets should care about saving pets, not only about the almighty $$ especially since we are all struggling these days in this crazy world and cannot afford these astronomical prices to help save our pets!! It is soo disgusting 😡 God bless you and I am sending you healing light and love ❤

We just lost our 5 year old Border Collie to gall bladder and kidney cancer! He was sick for two days and was going into shock when we went to the ER Vets! $3,000 later we relieved him of his pain instead of putting him through anymore torture! He was rescued from a puppy mill 4 years ago! He had been treated horribly! He loved having a home and a yard and sisters! Two sisters passed and we adopted him a little brother to play with! They'd play for hours! He was so kind and he would go from room to room to lay in his special spots! We were honored to adopt him and wanted more time with him! He was a kind, quiet, shy and very well behaved boy! His foster mom said he was an angel!

They were both very gentle and tame. They absolutely loved my mom and were very attached to her. Extremely intelligent and very clean. As long as the cage was kept clean they always did their business in the same corner. She felt both their losses deeply. Like every other animal we eventually lost. They each gave her 2 good years.

I just found your page and I'm so sorry for your family's incredibly hard loss!! I could not even begin to imagine having to do a necropsy on one of my own dogs, and I pray that you and your husband are able to find peace with that specific memory being tucked far away.
That said I really hope you see this comment bc I'm a Great Dane mom and bloat is super common for these giants. So I wanted to share with you that it is SO Important to make the dogs rest for 30-45 minutes Before And After Every Meal!! When they've been running and are panting hard, that's one of the most common ways bloat occurs.
Also, GET GAS-X capsules ASAP and keep them close!! Any time your babies eat something that could cause gas, such as fatty/greasy type leftovers or something like that, give them 2 Gas-X capsules. They're super tolerant of the medicine in Gas-X so they can have it as often as needed and I've honestly lost count of how many Great Danes lives I've seen it save!! Sending hugs and prayers y'alls way!! 🥰🙏🏼🐾

When I took him to the vet at 5:30AM, he told me he would need surgery. Like you he told me it would be around 5 grand but he wouldn't do the surgery, I would have had to take him to a specialist 50 miles away. I was 68 year old widow and don't drive out of town. I made the decision to go ahead and have him euthanized. It's was a very hard decision but he was in so much pain. Sorry for your loss, Prayers

I feel your pain sister. I had the love of my life furbaby die horribly. It’s been two years and it still hurts just as bad. It’s nothing like the loss of animals you raise for food. Big hugs to you and your family and take the time you need to morn him.
