There have been collaborations along those lines.
I feel like HDR in games is much more consistent though, it would be more a matter of pointing out the few that don't hit high brightness, as was the case with RDR2 at launch.

    Hello Vincent,
yes, I'd love HDR analyses of Back to the Future II and III.
Another series of films by Universal that would be interesting are the Jurassic Park/World movies.
There are also some upcoming new 4K-BDs of which I would really like HDR analyses.
    1. The complete Game of Thrones 4K-BDs (beyond seasons 1 and 8), as soon as they are released.
    2. Any existing or future seasons of the HBO Westworld series. (Season 3 is upcoming.)
    3. Any Marvel Cinematic Universe 4K-BDs, e. g. the Avengers films.
    4. The upcoming 4K-BDs of the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson.
    5. The upcoming 4K-BD of the first Mad Max.
Okay, I'll stop now. That should be enough for some time.

This is one of the few films I have in dolby Vision. I have The Sony x800m2 player. When I engage dolby Vision to on in the players menu and watch the film, its almost like there is no hdr at all compared to watching just the normal HDR10 version. This is being viewed on a LG C9. Is this a player issue or am I missing another setting somewhere? It says Dolby Vision on my TV when I'm watching it, but looks poor when compared to disabling dolby Vision and watching standard HDR10 instead. This goes for all the dolby Vision uhd I own.

Would be curious if you could look at Ghost in the Shell (2017).
Obviously there are mixed opinions on the film, but it has really impressive visuals that lend themselves well to HDR, but while viewing it in HDR, it doesn't seem to take advantage of HDR as much as it could. It clearly is HDR to an extent, but seemingly not as much as one would hope. (Seemingly really bright highlights aren't used as often as one would like/would seem logical?) Would be curious if you could look at it.

I'm fairly new to 4K but can you tell me why Netflix and Hulu standard HD looks crisp, cleaner, and less grainy than 4K bluray discs on my 82" 4K tv? I know every videophile argues that grain is supposed to be there and actually translates to superior quality over a smooth picture but I'm not convinced. I sort of understand all the nits and HDR stuff that is being discussed here but to the naked eye, it's just ok. I loved 1080p picture quality on my old 1080p TV much better and would've stayed with 1080p if they didn't stop making larger displays. Just watched this last night and again was too distracted by the not so perfect picture. My viewing distance is about 9-10 ft. When I moved back about 12 ft, the picture became much smoother and more enjoyable.

You can expect that the streaming quality will always be worse than a disk. The data rate of a UHD disk is at the very least double a stream, and typically 3 to 6 times the bitrate, the difference with audio is even greater, the max bit rate of the lossy audio via streaming is 640k or 768k for atmos. Just the atmos object and metadata layer excluding the entire audio bed on a disk is typically larger than that. The lossless audio on a disk has much more clarity and is immediately apparent when listening. Streaming typically has banding, lowlight/highlight crushing and artefacts that you don't get via uhd, but the sound is the biggest and most noticeable difference.

Vincent did a good comparison a while back on Transformers the Last Knight I think, and whilst these was an improvement with disc over iTunes stream it was not as big as I thought it would be. Comes down to price and preference - if it’s a film like Three Billboards I’m more than happy to buy the iTunes version due to cost over a disc and I am not too concerned about pic and sound quality. However for an action heavy film such as Star Wars Rogue One, it’s disc all the way - I want the best picture and sound quality possible.

I really hope this becomes the norm for bringing classic films into the 4K HDR world. Completely pointless to release old films as SDR in HDR containers so great to see some filmmakers taking advantage of the new technology.

There is acutally a point to some extend if they use a 4K remaster so you maybe don't have a proper HDR presentation but at least more resulotion

I'm shocked I tell you, I'm shocked! You didn't pick another 4k UHD that was released two to five years ago to examine its HDR performance.

This is a awesome review! Trying to do the same with video games
@Vincent _Teoh I suggest beginning with top 10 best selling games both in PS4 and Xbox one with 4k and HDR capabilities like GTA V, RDR 2, God of War, The last of us, Forza and so on. After new generation consoles release, Demons Souls and Spider-Man Miles Morales are a must, over 100k viewers guaranteed. Maybe comparing performance of each TV you're testing. HDR, frame rate, color gamut, picture quality, etc.

I'm interested to see how the new Xbox Series X auto HDR works and if it's effective or does it make it worse because it's added through software, not actually in the game to begin with.

Hey Lads, if i postulate a hypothetical usage case for my potential OLED TV, I would game on it 6-8 hours, No News whatsoever, with the lowest minimum brightness as possible without degrading much quality, and no (HDR) gaming whatsoever in the span of it's longevity, with that logo luminance presets set to low, and by doing pixel refreshing processes embedded into the actual TV software and utilizing such procedures everyday, How long do you suggest that My TV screen uniformity would last without Burn-Ins whilst being conditioned only to that specific use case? I really appreciate your answers.
