apart from the Star Wars OT this is the best trilogy of all time 👌🏻 I can’t believe there’s some people who only want to buy 1 or 2 of the 3 films 🤦🏼♂️
No kidding, the world is sleeping on how excellent Part III is.
And they were all shot in one go. That’s why all three are so good.

Close ups being soft just come down to the older lenses they were using, and on film the 1st ac does all the focus without a monitor. So it could just be a couple soft shots, they had no way of knowing if it was completely in focus until they were in post. Now we have focus monitors, light rangers, cinetape. Its much easier these days to keep stuff in focus.
Yeah that’s what I always assume. It’s all source/technology. That’s why I don’t grade that too hard considering
@@JeffRauseo trust me im sure when the 1st ac saw the film he or she noticed right away and it probably drove them nuts haha. I was talking to the 1st ac from the child's play remake and he said he noticed a couple shots that were soft in the theatre, even with modern technological aids it still happens. General public will say "how come the quality sucks in this shot" hahaha
I've always noticed that to be sorta common in movies from the 80's in particular, for some strange reason. The best theory I've ever come up with why that is even in big budget releases is they did a lot less movies with anamorphic lenses than in the 60's and especially 70's, which is something else I noticed.
@@SidNightWalker anamorphics still will be sharp of the focus puller is on point. But there's a whole other bunch of reasons, like filters. There is a bunch of filters that DPs like to use these days that soften the image, everyone is trying to make the glass look older cause everything is too sharp and not artistic enough for some DPs. However I work at panavision and sabrina used our "detuned" anamorphics which are soft all the way around the image except for the middle. If the shot is soft its an artistic choice or the focus puller messed it up.
@@nigeljoycey5644 very interesting, I've always found it fascinating all the trickery involved to actually film something on analog cameras and have it look good. Of course with the old Panavision systems you had to take an hour to set everything up and ect. so if you screwed something up sometimes you just had to go with it or risk losing an entire days work. Some movies have had entire scenes cut from them because of filming issues here and there.
Pulled the trigger on this steelbook box set today and man... The first movie looked gorgeous on 4k. It breathed new life into this film and I can't wait to watch the next two movies.

Peter jackson is going to be raking in millions of dollars in worldwide sales of the lord of the rings trilogy and the hobbit trilogy on 4k this december..and this time next year when he releases them in a new remastered editions on blu ray..fall/spring worldwide
Lord of the Rings 4k is a disappointment. It's a 2K upscale to 4K. That wouldn't be so bad but they DNRed each movie because . . . It's 4K roulette! Place your bets! Some are winners, some are losers! The best version of the series is the Extended edition set only in 1080p but at least they don't have DNR.
Can you not just put a couple of discs in your machine and see how they look , for any film

I have the DVD rilogy and BluRay edition with the lightup flux capacitor and animated show dvds. Gonna pickup the 4ks eventually. Waiting for my PS5 so I can finally watch 4k discs.
I could have owned all formats, but the only VHS trilogy I saw for $3.00 was in horrible condition. And my VCR bit the dust anyway.

I couldn’t help but giggle when he talks how much he can see the difference on 4K for a movie that was shot on film. The whole HD era really seems to have caused confusion with all sorts of transfers. I mean like Sam sung TVs, naturally brighter colors will give an appearance of popping sharpness. However that don’t necessarily mean it’s has the sharpest contrast. Personally I gotta believe if you not watching through film, the closest transfer would LD. Unfortunately today not much support to play LD on high def TVs.

The Back To The Future looks great on 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc. Good transfers for picture and audio and good extras too. The Blu-Ray Disc Set had a ton of DNR issues as far as the picture goes but thank goodness this new 4K Remaster is nice and has a great picture for all 3 films with little to no DNR issues. All in all a great set.
There's something reassuring about Jeff's sincerity and honesty. Great review - I'll be snagging these for the collection as soon as I can get to a store and can get a hold of them. Let's hope they'll reach Australia soon.

I got the Amazon one but wish it came in the same way the Best Buy exclusive did. I stay away from Best Buy now because a few of my last pre-orders didn't ship with everything they were supposed to and by the time it was released, there was no way to fill what they failed to ship

The first movie suffered the most by having to go through reshoots because of the Eric Stoltz situation. In 4K you can really see which scenes were shot first because of the colors & the grain vs which scenes were redone with different timing. I agree that II & III look the best but I enjoyed watching the trilogy, the first BTTF is my favorite movie of all time. I do have a Sony Bravia and had to turn up the color on my TV from 50 to 75 to get the full effect. Just my thoughts, thank you for what you do.
Can't wait to get mine! I am hoping that "Death Becomes Her" gets a 4K upgrade as well (with Atmos please).

Great Scott. The time has finally come: Back to the Future on 4k Blu-ray. I've been waiting for such a long time for this release. Now I'll still have to wait for my set to arrive. I ordered the Amazon Exclusive 4k set with Hoverboard. However, as I'm from Europe it'll take about two weeks for it to arrive.

I currently have the 25th anniversary Blu-ray set (is that the one you are referring to?). Is it worth going for the 4K upgrade from that? Or even the newly remastered edition on Blu-ray?
Watched the first 4k disc last night. They did a really good job with these. Awesome awesome Atmos/surround mix. I'd put this near the top of all movies I've seen so far in surround sound effects.

I have the last version with the light up flux capacitor case and the books. This is cool but that was cooler. I’m sure I’ll get 4K once I have something 4K to show it on.
Excited beyond heck to get mine although I'll be waiting a month as postage to Oz is going to be slow and I wanted that Hoverboard no matter what. The original is one of the most well constructed films ever made and I'm so glad it was the first film I ever saw.
Also I want to say you run a great channel here and I especially appreciate there being no spoilers in any reviews. I'm only just now starting to watch all the great and classic films and your reviews have been incredibly helpful in deciding which version of a film to get without any risk of said film being spoiled. Keep up the great work.

Back to the future was released in 1985 and bttf part 2 was released in 1989
Bttf part 3 was released in 1990 not 1991.. great video btw dude keep it up..
I got the steelbook set, I should be getting it tomorrow. I hate hate hate the art on the outer box, but I think the steelbooks are awesome so I sprung for it.
I recently purchased my first 4k player and started to purchase a few movies in 4k, I I bought the back to the future Trilogy 4k set which also brings the Blu-ray versions of the movies and was very disappointed i couldn't see a difference in picture quality between the 4k and the Blu-ray, but the Blu-ray version was brighter and the colors were more vivid over all it had a more enjoyable picture to look at and the other thing that caught my eye was that the 4k version of back to the future 1 was that the audio was a little bit off I could see peoples mouth move about half a second before you hear the audio. not sure if anybody has had these issues or is there a way to fix them?

I've never watched any off the back to the future films thinking off getting blu ray maybe just part one for now as I'm not sure what there like and i dont have atmos or a 4k setup as off yet still need to upgrade to atmos and get a 4k player

Wait, so are the blu-rays that come with the 4K set the remastered blu-ray transfers like the standalone blu-ray set or does the 4K set come with the older blu-ray transfers?
4K Hoverboard set arrives tomorrow. Wish there was a way to get the hoverboard w/ the Steelbook packaging as I like that better than the discs being in the pages of the book like the Alfred Hitchcock set.
You can buy the hoverboard separately on Amazon for 30 bucks. Thats what I'm probably getting given that I also opted for the steelbooks.

I still own the 25th Anniversary Edition Trilogy in Blu ray. Do you know if they are using a new remaster? Obviously is worth upgrading to 4k, but this edition still looks decent. I can get few bucks for it and upgrade, just wondering if its worth the hassle.

I got the on blu-ray 3 pack when it first came out. That was good enough for me. I laughed at some of the bad set ups and especially the makeup. You can see the lines from both make up to take "old" person skin.
I preordered the moment it was available on Amazon. I will receive it by the end of October. Can't wait for lord of the rings 4K.

Automatic buy for me in 4K. Love Best Buy’s Steelbooks. I’m most excited for the Lord of the Rings even the Hobbit trilogies in 4K too. Hopefully we get Indiana Jones as well soon. As much as I like digital, you can’t beat a 4K disc.
Just got my steelbook set. Wish box was steel-like too. All look and sound great. I'd say 4k/HDR quality improves a bit with each film. #1 looks very good always but over half the film approx looks really really good.

5:50 part 2 and 3, as I've been told, were both shot back to back in '88, and they released part 3 a year later (1990) so that they didn't have the two competing with themselves at the box office.

It's a shame we haven't received the steelbook edition here in Australia, as far as I've seen. Woulda been a brilliant addition to the collection. Nevertheless, still bought the box set and more than impressed with the 4K upgrade 😁

TIP: If you don't care about physical disks, buy it on Vudu. I got the 4k trilogy for $18. Hell of a deal.
Back to the future and Friday the 13th box sets,Im going to have to take out a loan.
I got the german version of the 4k set. In all three movies the atmos track in german is faulty, multiple scenes where people are speaking (mouths move) but no voice to be heard. And in my set the first movie gives errors in one player and on xbox one x it skips in 4 scenes. Probably defective, many people reporting the same errors already reported to uphe as well. So be sure to check your movies by actually watching them to know if there are errors as well, could be not only the german version is affected.
Jeff., We want to get the steelbook set.. But at Best Buy site it says only available for store pickup bout 250 miles away.. Any advice for we can't do that.. But really want this.. Do you think after release date they will be able to deliver in the mail?? Much appreciated.. Take care..
Nevermind Jeff.. Just checked and now it also says delivery.. Looking forward to it.. Steelbook back is great but the front not found of it.. Because connecting the car is cool.. But when connected it is weird to get 3 versions of the Clock Tower in there as well.. Makes it not even have any sense there.. But not going to stop from getting.. 4K back to the future a fav movie series of mine since they were new.. All the best..
