    I moved to N Z in 1973 . From the UK , although my family are still back in the UK , I return regularly to visit my family there. And I don’t regret moving here , especially with Covid 19. To many people back in the old country, makes living hard unless you are wealthy and can own large plot of land . But for those people who want to emigrate , better if you are younger as you can adapt easier, older people find it hard to change their ways and attitude and a long way from family and friends. Although Skype helps a lot. But what you gain is less population, more outside activity, dryer weather, and good positive attitudes.

    This is amazing! I did a trip to NZ (just the North Island) back in May and it was beautiful. I plan to move there one day but that's after school and saving some money. It's so weird to see other people from Guelph have made that move! Great vlogs, I'll definitely be checking out your blog!!

      Thanks Carly! Very cool that you're from Guelph, I miss riding my bike through the trails at Guelph Lake. We're actually living in Nova Scotia now (after 2.5 years in NZ). You won't regret going back to NZ if you decide to move their someday. The more difficult decision is whether or not to stay forever ;)

      ***** I am no RUclips expert but from watching other RUclipsrs, having an identity is really important, and your videos definitely have a feel and a flow to them that works. I would love to see you do this lifestyle stuff though, so have you thought of a second channel for those?

    • @Stokedforsaturday
      @Stokedforsaturday  9 лет назад +1

      Hey randomjasmic, really appreciate the comment. It is a bit of a conundrum for us as I don’t really want our videos to become vlog style where we talk to the camera a lot. It doesn't come naturally to Jenna or myself to talk to the camera and we struggle with it. I enjoy filming epic scenery and action more than I like sharing my personal thoughts on camera. But I agree with you we need to weave in more identity into the videos and I want to work on that more by incorporating a little more narration/personality into future videos. This upcoming winter we are going to work on some mountaineering ones which I think will involve a lot more identity and talking because it’s more difficult to film those in an epic way (I can’t carry a glidecam when I’m on an ice pitch). Mt Fyffe although one of our least viewed videos is still one of my favorites because it incorporates a combination of epic shots and some talking. In terms of having a second channel for the lifestyle stuff I've thought about it but managing content for 2 channels + blog and social media on top of taking time to do all the adventures and work full time I think would be too much and it would hurt our existing channel which is challenging enough to build an audience for. Watch the Mt Fyffe video (ep 13) and let me know if you have any feedback on that style as a happy middle ground for our channel. I’ve also considered trying to mix it up more frequently like having one video with little to no talking (e.g., Abel Tasman Canyoning) and another with more talking like the Stunt Plane video. We filmed a Feijoa picking video (a funny sour New Zealand fruit that is famous here) which has a lot more talking but I haven’t edited it yet. Do you think it would be good to have a mix on our channel or keep them all very similar? Obviously our earlier videos started off with a lot more narration and evolved into little to no narration/personality, but the videos with little talking been some of our most successful ones so I’m often torn. Now my brain hurts from thinking too much…
      I always appreciate feedback so thank you for that! Any other thoughts you have just let me know! :)

    • @randomjasmicisrandom
      @randomjasmicisrandom 9 лет назад +1

      Hahaha! Feel you on the brain hurt.
      Right, I feel that people like Ben Brown and Louis deserve everything they get as talking to a camera especially while you are out and about, is really difficult. I have tried it and I just cannot get used to it. They seem to be able to make going for a coffee seem exciting so yeah, I totally get how you find that hard.
      That said I do think you both come across really well on Camera. You sort of remind me of Louis South African friends Nick and his wife Ang. I have seen her talk about how uncomfortable she feels talking on camera, and Ben Brown's girlfriend has also said this. And by the way if you have an iPhone I totally recommend the Storie App that Nick has developed, that might be a way to get your channel out there a bit more and combine it with the lifestyle stuff. All the editing is done in phone, so no worries about workload.
      There is no doubt that you are better at the wide panoramic, swooping glidecam and epic scenery sort of shot. I cannot remember who it was or where I saw it, but I do remember hearing an established RUclipsr say that having an identity and sticking to it is really important. so I would never advise you to risk messing with what you are obviously good at. I also think the fact that you include yourselves in the shots is a good touch, it really makes it personal.
      I am guessing that you have a good long list of things you want to do in NZ? Enough to keep the channel ticking over for a while to come?
      Maybe the lifestyle stuff can come later. Actually, I am going to be free in about four years time when my wife's contract in Germany runs out. Hmmmmm....

    • @Stokedforsaturday
      @Stokedforsaturday  9 лет назад +1

      randomjasmic Louis was talking about the Storie app a lot, we both have an Android phone so might have to wait until it's available on our devices to try it out and yes there is lots more to do in NZ but we also plan to branch out and do some other countries. We are going to Tasmania soon and then Indonesia. Also have a bunch of stuff filmed and sitting in the queue for Tonga. Too much to do - so little time! :P

    So awesome.. You guys are so awesome :D ! I found you through Devin's adventures, I am admin of his "official" fan group if you ever want to join it ;) ! You guys deserve more views than that.. I am totally going to go through all your videos, I just watched "The Best of New Zealand's Great Walks" and sharing it right now ! Congratulations for so amazing videos, so much walking and making us discover New Zealand :D ! New Zealand is definetely on my list of places to go and visit :D !
    Also, very important thing.. you are ADORABLE, your couple is one of the cuttest :D It feels very good to see you both enjoying your life and living the adventure.. I am soon leaving France to America and it's a big jump too even if it's less further so this video was very touching and meant a lot.. Almost cried with you in the end.. Lol. Anyway.. I wish you the best and a lot of hapinness ! Bye.

      Elodie Chapus Thanks for the great feedback and awesome comment! I didn't know there was an official fan group but I’m going to send a join request now. There’s a lot more NZ videos to come, I’m got quite a big backlog and future videos will start incorporating more complex video work. We’ve got a pretty cool hiking one that will be published in 5 weeks (Cape Brett Track) that I think you’ll like. It’s the first hiking one where we’ve managed to get great drone footage, motion controlled time lapses and of course glidecam all in one video!
      All the best of luck with your trip to America! I can’t say I’ve explored much of the US but from what Devin told me Utah seems like a pretty cool place with tons of outdoor adventure stuff to do.

Unfortunately at this particular stage in my life ( single Dad, two kids, lost my beautiful wife and trying to give as much security/routine as possible ), it is Not in the cards. But....😊....I've always wanted to visit NZ and fantasized about living there one day. ( I'm sure that is How I stumbled upon your videos in the first place ). When my kids are older and settled , I really Might just DO it. And if you two are still making these videos and I'm still watching....That will only Fuel my fire to make the Leap ! I truly don't know IF I could be as courageous/Free Spirited as you guys, ...but I now know Where to look for encouragement thanks to your story !

    +stocked for saturday you guys are doing exactly want to do in my life !! :) I live in curacao a insland in the caribean is pretty nice island and amazing place to life .But i really want to explore more i'm 20 years old What you guys just did is exactly what i want to do. I actually just want to find a job save money then move i know is not going to be easy but that is exactly what i want to do.One problem that i have where i live is that the curency is actually lower then usd so lets say 1 usd =FL 1.82 that is local curency and since everything needs to be imported its a little bit expensive for me especially when buying equipment like just imagine Canon mark 5 mark 3 that is $2,499.00 to my local curency that is = fl 4550 Just imagine that or glidecam . So that is my chalange right now or when i move where i'm going to live and what am i going to do ?? And since i'm allone is eveno more difficult. But i'm really happy of what you guys did and i really wish to me to NZ . I want to do the exact samething you guys did :) .

      @Stokedforsaturday  9 лет назад

      +G4merIr0nicTV I wish you all the luck in pursuit of your dream. You've got lots of time, I didn't make the move until I was 30 and had some work experience under my belt so I could get a better job in NZ. And yes the 5D is a expensive, but now it's actually a pretty old camera and if I was buying another camera today I wouldn't buy it. It can't even shoot 1080p in slow motion which is a real annoyance. Most other cameras can do that these days.

      +Stoked for Saturday yes I know I currently checking on the gh4 or waiting for the gh5 to be released. The black box cameras are not bad either.

    Hello! im very entertained with your videos, they are very informative too! But i hope you don't mind me asking, why did you leave your cat in Canada? I want to move to new zealand too, and i have a guide dog and i've asked and i can enter with my dog to the country, but she (my dog) has to stay from 10 to 30 days in quarentine. So i don't see that as a problem.

    • @Stokedforsaturday
      @Stokedforsaturday  8 лет назад +2

      +MrBetoTap we have friends that have brought in their dog with no problems. We didn't bring our cat because we didn't known how long we would be in NZ (maybe less than a year) and knew we would be living out of a car for periods of time and going on multi day hikes leaving our car parked somewhere. It would have made having a cat for that period of time pretty difficult. It is staying with friends back in Canada right now but will get it back next week when we return to Canada.

    • @MrBetoTap
      @MrBetoTap 8 лет назад

      Thank you very much for your quick answer, if you don't mind me asking again, could you please tell me about your friends experience with their dog? and another thing i'm planning to send an expression on interest to get a visa, according to my professional skills, how it is to find professional work in the land of the kiwis?

    • @Stokedforsaturday
      @Stokedforsaturday  8 лет назад

      +MrBetoTap the only thing to think about is the attitude towards dogs here is a little different as they are seen more as working animals (farm culture). They aren't allowed in many national park areas because of the risk they will kill indigenous flightless birds like the kiwi. However lots of people still have dogs, especially in the cities. We lived on a dog beach on Wellington and lots of people brought their dogs there. Your best net to gauge the job market is to check seek.co.nz or trademe. We have a 3 part blog on moving to nz, vissa etc. On our website that should help.

      Thanks, Jenna will be happy to hear that. NZ is more expensive for most things and cheaper on a few others (cell phone and insurance). Overall the cost of living is higher here but not enough that's it's impacted our lifestyle at all. You tend to just adapt to your new environment.

      +Celebrity Pets she is getting taken care of by a friend back in Canada. Bringing pet into New Zealand is a little complicated for bio-security reasons. I'm from Canada and have been seeking out people that live or have lived in NZ. Canada has become, well, rather annoying when it comes to the ability to start a company or create opportunity. I find it is a little too socialist here. (Too many regulations that actually protect monopolies, instead of allow me to take market share away from them). As you know in Canada they have us locked into this 'debt based' society where you are not allowed to be a mechanic unless you have gone into debt for 4 years to get a paper that says you are a mechanic.... well, not only am I mechanically inclined, but I also brew my own beer, do CNC work, as well as I'm a Politician.
    What are taxes like? How easy is it for someone to setup a car repair business, or lube change place? Can I brew beer and sell it to the pubic? If so, how? How easy is it to trade outside of NZ? Is there strict regulations that drive up the cost of doing business?
    These are all things I'm interested in. Not to downplay your videos, but anyone can be a Tourist, I'm looking to create an opportunity so I can create my dream job. I find that very difficult in Canada now.
    I was looking at couple US states, as well as NZ. If I sell both my properties I'll have $400k Canadian, and that can jump start my dream job pending the country doesn't suck.
    Does it suck?
    Thanks for any tips

      +walperstyle wow, I certainly don't know the answers to most of your questions. But I will say this. New Zealand is a very easy place to do business. They are far less obsessed with the concept of liability and suing each other which results in a lot less bureaucracy. I don't even need to have car insurance and if you don't want to. A government entity called ACC which basically insures everyone for personal injury helps eliminate the necessity for everyone to have insurance for everything. That being said there is still bureaucracy like any democratic country. Probably just less of it because new zealand is small, very entrepreneurial and do-it-yourself type people. Look up a story about John Britton and his V-1000 motorcycle. You'll love it.
      Hope that helps. You can also check out our moving to New Zealand blog series which will give you a little more info on the process, culture etc related to moving there. Here's the link: www.stokedforsaturday.com/2014/07/moving-to-new-zealand-part-1-preparing/
      NZ often makes in on the list of easiest countries to do business in.

      Thank you so much. With any luck, I'll have a brewery going on there within the next 10 years.

      When I read the words "They are _FAR_ less obsessed with the concept of liability & with suing each other...", from one fellow North American to another, I hope that I'm not the only one that sighed with relief and got oddly excited. Much respect to the Kiwis of _NZ_ for knowing how to let bygones be bygones and for allowing others to live & work without being sue happy, unlike many in this continent.
