- Contractors are being hired to remove millions of rotting fish from a river in the Australian Outback after an unprecedented die-off following floods and hot weather, police said on Monday. “I’m certainly not making promises that all the millions of fish will be removed by contractors because that is really a logistical nightmare,” said Brett Greentree, assistant commissioner of the New South Wales Police Department. Inside Edition Digital’s Stephanie Officer has the details.

Rotten fish is very good fertilizer for fruit trees.
I don't think it's either the lack of oxygen and hot weather caused the death of all of that fish. If so, all that fish would've changed their location by their own. What I think it may be the main reason of this tragic incident is it could be from a chemical leak of a factory or industrial zone. There's no reason to blame the weather since it would've occured multiple times in the past.
Now, it is better to collect all that fish and to deliver it to farms before it creates unwanted types of diseases.

If oxygenation is the problem, could they install giant "bubblers" to refresh the supply and help keep the water from getting stagnant? Just a thought. I honestly don't know if that would work. Also, is there anyway to thin the numbers of fish before they all suffer slow painful deaths? Make fishing the river the national past time. Share all the best fish recipes and build closer communities while helping restore balance to nature. I'm not Australian so I'm legitimately asking if this could work?

Last year I saw a video of a couple of guys pouring poison into a Canadian river in the maritines. They were being escorted by police but the guy recording stopped them by grabbing the poison. He was scolding the police because he knew them as he was a local. I wonder if this is related.

Its less to do with the environment and more to do with government mismanagement of the river itself, the toxic chemicals runoff from the soil from nearby plantations and the amount of water siphoned from rivers into factories to keep the water in the river to a minimum, where the fish run out of oxygen to breathe due to the lack of water and chemicals in said water

The fastest way to clean all them up is get a one of those trash skimmer boats that you see out in the ocean in polluted places and run it along there to remove the dead fish and dump them into a barge.

I don't think the deaths of all those fish was the cause of rising heatwaves and low oxygen. Fish aren't dumb, they came from millions of years of evolution, they have instincts ingrained in them. If they find that there is low oxygen in that river/lake they would leave the area for a a more better and oxygen rich location. Yes they may still be that will die but not at that scale. I say it's more human cause of death for those fish
