these $40 jeans are the best vintage levi's I've ever owned - made in USA levi's styling & review

  • I've quit wearing redlines and Big E Levi's because they're just not worth it anymore. I find myself spending more time repairing them than actually wearing them, vs 90s made in USA pairs which actually hold up & are a dime a dozen at your local flea market.

    I literally just bought a pair of 90s Levis for 40 dollars, also 70/80s Lee's are super underrated, I bought a deadstock pair for 20 bucks.

    I have been wearing Levi's 501s since the late 1960s and have a large collection. I don't believe the red "501xx" on the waist tag indicates denim quality, just the period the jeans were manufactured. When Levi's 501s were made in the USA they always used high quality denim. Levi's only used two types of denim: shrink-to-fit and pre-shrunk. I believe the 501s made between 1993-1999 are the best. They have a black "501xx" (note the lower case of the xx without trailing trademark circle R). The waist from that period is lower, the fit is better, Levi's used better denim, they faded better, and there was greater consistency between different pairs.

      I agree, personally I've sold all my big E jeans because they were too worn out and I didn't want to tear them when I could get a good price for them, nevertheless the 501 model 70's from 1966 which was also made for a large part of the 1970's years with the small e is really very good, then the 501xx from the end of the 80s, in France I can find a lot of them for 10 euros a pair, recently I bought one for 15e with only one wash dating from 1995, they've been produced so much that a lot of people still have them unlike the redlines.
      I think the best denim is this model from 1966 until 1973-1974 the denim was 12 oz thick, aluminum rivets that protected against rust and oxidation, and the end of hidden rivets that caused rips in the pants, good draper loom fabric and beautiful fading, still the redline and chain stitching, baby boomers have benefited :)

    My favourite jeans are 1995 made in Canada 505s. Ran me $18 CAD in new condition. I can only compare them to wrangler cowboy cut, both are amazing jeans if you’re on a budget.

    Is there a diff between 501xx in red vs black?

  • @victoryveshinojosa
    @victoryveshinojosa Год назад +2

    What is the difference between the red text 501 & 501xx? Are the xx versions the shrink to fit models from the years that you mentioned? I have a pair of 1990 501 red text. They are a one wash pair, dark denim that look just a "hairy" as the ones in the video and the quality of the denim is also amazing.

      When the 501 is followed by xx that indicates it is shrink-to-fit and the actual size will be much smaller than on the tag. If no xx then the jeans were pre-shrunk and the actual size will be about the tag size. The red text indicates the 501s were made from the 1980s to around 1992.

    Flea markets and actuall thrift stores (not vintage shops/ or buy/sell/trade are the best place to find them cheap. Most Sellers at the fleas aren’t really super aware of the product they sell, most likely just buying in bulk or from donations. I found a pair orange tab flares for 10 bucks

    I agree totally great value to buy the 90s 501. The cut is actually better as well as the rise is a little higher and the red xx quality is really good. I would rather have those than a modern pair.
