@@shin-ultima8943 it wasn't that black knight was a bad game, it was the fact that all the story book games were too linear. You had very little actual control, sonic mostly moving on an automated track, with each story having it's own gimmick. The secret rings you played with a sideways controller, in black knight you swung the Wii mote to attack with your sword, but either way there was limited combat. I'd love to see them remake the black knight with frontiers graphics and physics with actual cutscenes. Then, and only then will I say the game is good. Black knight tried too hard to add combat while being a sonic game and it didn't fit. With it being linear as I said, you also don't have much replayability. The game could have been better if they actually tried. It's just now that I type this, I just hope frontiers has a modding community dead set on remaking black knight in frontiers. Because then I'll feel better about liking black knight at all, because you make it sound good, but in all reality, it was jank. It was a good idea, but it was executed poorly.
Exactly. I enjoyed the themes of the sonic from the 2000s. During the 2010s Sega has just been pandering to the nostalgia that people have for the genesis games… and it sucked.
Considering my man sonic esentially turns into a saiyan after collecting the 7 funny rocks, it's surprising it took them this long, i guess secret rings and black knight might count though

It is a breath of fresh air seeing Sonic fight using more than just spin dashes and homing attacks again. Especially in super form, he's usually just been made to ram into everything. The punches, kicks, etc in Frontiers are a small touch, but they make him feel more "real" because he's using his whole body and actually "fighting".
It's not just the giant red sword for me, but the fact that they're both *preceeded* by him knocking the enemy into the air, then specifically slaing em down with a flying spinning axe kick. WTF
Sonic always stuck with me more when his shonen roots were on display. The 2000s as a whole had so much of that slight edgy feel behind all the intense platforming games. Even spin-offs and works from the community (this, SMBZ, and Nazo Unleashed) made it seem like Sonic was always meant to be this badass hedgehog who goes on badass adventures saving the earth as if he came from an alternate universe in Dragon Ball Z.

I really like the fact Sega kinda made a reference to one part of my childhood with Final Fantasy Sonic, which is amazing. Also the fact that the fights for all of the bosses remind me a little of Dragon Ball just the way he fights and it’s amazing.
I think the Giant sword was more closer to a reference to metal gear rising. Raiden takes the arm of a giant metal gear and uses it against itself. Makes more sense than a random flash game from early 2000s, which I have played.
The fight you are referencing is against Excelsus. Thing is, for the kill blow, Raiden explodes it. You have the option to cut it up, but you don’t have to. I think if it was to reference from Revengeance would be against Metal Gear Ray, since the kill blow actually cuts it in half.
