Skullgirls was the first FG i've played The games I play the most online rn though is just Street Fighter V (just got it to give it a chance since Akira is coming out), and KoF 2002UM. Everything on PC.

The Skull girls Devs and the Guilty Gear Devs are obvs fans of each other cus there's artwork that's in skull girls which shows Valentine and Faust together operating on someone (they're looking at you). Also skullgirls has a fuck ton of Easter eggs especially with the alternative colours to all the characters eg - Valentine has the Nurse Joy colours, Parasol has the Jessie colours and Eliza has the Dio Brando colours and now Annie with the Sol colours
I think that standing medium kick might be more of a reference to Mature's far B in KOF. I can see the similarities to Sol's other moves clearer though, for sure.

There are a ton of Gear references in Skullgirls. Just looking at palates alone: Fillia has two inspired by Millia, and a third (I think) inspired by Ramlethal. Cerebella has a Potemkin palate, Valentine has Baiken. Big Band has ANOTHER Potemkin as well as a Robo-Ky. Both Fukua and Robo-Fortune have Robo-Ky as well. Eliza has an I-No palate, and then Annie obviously has Sol/Ky. Frankly, I'm just sad there's no Faust alt for Valentine.

While we're on the FF/KOF theme, Annie's MK more closely resembles Mature's close D, rather than Sol's standing K. (Sol's goes high, Annie and Mature's is a straight knee, forward kick.)
Don't get me wrong, Xrd REV-2 is a wonderful looking game. But when I say that Skullgirls animates better, I really mean it. Notice how in Xrd some moves look stiff and awkward in motion. Annie replicates the same moves while fixing the shortcomings of the "2D but actually 3D" animation of Xrd.
