I think Jack Black is astounding in this. He plays it up JUST enough to make it believable without becoming a parody.
i agree, jack black is the goat
Never been a fan of jack, but in this movie i was pleasantly surprised.
@@erics320 He's great, it's just that he's mostly popular for parodies and trash films which is unfortunately what people will remember him for
@@erics320 Check out Kung fu panda and school of rock
He’s so talented, so maybe he’s just not in that types of movies u watch?
Totally agree I’ve always said that like he should have won an award for this he did such an amazing job and was a total crack up lmao 😆
I love the dynamic of Karen Gillan being super hot and awkward, and Jack Black being a big bloke that knows everything about flirting. They both act so well.
It's true, even in real life Karen Gillan seems completely unaware of how absolutely gorgeous she is. She was perfect casting for this movie. :)
Karen Gillian? Nebula?
@@morganyakkofan9052 yes
@@chrissarina981 Ok
@@morganyakkofan9052 Also Amy Pond.
I feel like "I liked this movie a lot more than I thought I would" was the reaction everyone had.
Understandably so, since we all expected some bland re-make that didn't even have Robin Williams in it, instead they did something new with it, that was incredibly fun to watch.
Same with the Sequel, just enough new stuff to still be very entertaining, while following the same formula.
Agreed.
I went to see it in theaters mostly because I had a gift card and thought it would be an ok movie to watch. But it was super fun and all the actors brought their A game
@TheVolourn it was a direct sequel. Once it included Alan Parrish as the builder of the place, it became a direct sequel.
@@browncoat13 Not to mention the game was found on a beach, which is where the first movie ended ... with the board game partly buried on a beach.
Felt just the same.
I only watched it specifically to ogle Karen Gillan. ...Which I did, but the rest of the movie was pretty good as well.
Karen Gillan is such an underrated actress. Watch this then watch her as Nebula and it's just hard to believe that's the same person.
Bruh, or her amazing performance as Amy Pond on Doctor Who! She's crazy good at faking an american accent too :0
And Oculus!
It’s believable when she pulls the Nebula Voice as she walks over to the soldiers to distract them
Yep, especially because Nebula is colored blue.
What?! She's Nebula?!
"Its like the one ring" we've reached a point where she's using lotr references. It's a good day
If you want to reference something, LoTR is hard to beat.

With 20 years late ! Man I hope she actually seen the original Jumanji because she has a gigantic lack of culture not having seen those movies. It's too big that I suspect most of the videos being fake.
"Did Nick Jonas dirty". Remember Nick Jonas was just the game character. He never looked like that in real life, hence Colin Hanks.
Plus Colin Hanks isn't a dirty. No homo.
Who wouldn’t want to be Colin Hanks lol. It’s Colin Hanks! 🤩
A metal head. A friendly and a family guy. what's there to dirty? unless you're the type of person who thinks metal is evil or something..
I think you've officially become my favorite reactor. You don't over-react. And when you do, it's warranted. And you don't babble over the dialogues and when you say something, it's just a short little sentence, like you're not just saying things for the sake of saying things. It actually feels like I'm watching it together with a real person. THANK YOU!!!!
This is so well said. You pulled the words right out of my mouth.
Hey popcorn girl I got a question if you're an actress what will you want to do
Jack Black stole the show! He was amazing as a teenage girl! LOL
The call back to Alan Parrish/ Robin Williams was a great touch. Really enjoyed your reaction to the movie.
"This is Alan Parish's house. I'm just living in it."
Such a great line.
I hated it. As pointed out in Pitch Meeting, the original Jumanji painted Alan's experience as living deep in the jungle, fearing for his life, being hunted, wiping with banana leaves. Yet here he lives in a bamboo hut on the outside of town?
@@TenTonNuke agreed. Could’ve been done right but definitely wasn’t
@@TenTonNuke Things might have changed since Jumanji took on video game tropes. It makes sense that Alan would build some kind of shelter, though.
Yeah it was a great call back good little Easter egg to the original movie
When I first heard Fridge say, "We _always_ only have one life, man" I have to admit I teared up a little. I really wasn't expecting such a deep message from a movie I was already enjoying, really caught me off guard and made me love this movie.
Same here
Thats Tom Hanks' son in the end lol. Looks like Saving Private Ryan went full circle. He was also in band of brothers lol.
I didn't think anything could be as good as the Robin Williams original but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this one when I saw it. The second one is pretty good too, but I'd have to give the prize to this one. And I agree: Jack Black was hilarious in this. The little tribute to Robin Williams' character was a nice touch too.
After this, Jumanji the Next Level.
Yeah the sequel is great too.

"Kids these days. Amiright?"
- Visibly dies a little inside. -
But she's not wrong.
You had me at “we did not have social media in high school”.
She said she wouldn't tell us how old she was but that she didn't have social media in high school. She also told us that in 2001 she saw The Fellowship when she was 12 years old. That would make her 32 or 33 years old. #sorrynotsorrycassie
@@whopperwithcheese I figured she is at least in her early 30s because I also had no social media in high school. I got my first iPhone in my 20s.
@@whopperwithcheese I'm around her age (a little older even) but we had myspace in high school and the early form of facebook so I'm going to call bullshit that social media wasn't a thing back then.
@@user-uy1rg8td1v Was thinking the exact same thing. Of course back then social media was just that.... something to be social on with people you know. Unlike the thing it has become today.
The only social media we had was passing notes. We were better for it.
These are so much fun. The writer who wrote the children's book Jumanji also wrote another similar "trapped in a game story" called Zathura, and also made into a movie. It's pretty good. More of a science fiction adventure story.
My kids love Zathura when they were younger.
This is such a hilarious movie, so excited to watch your reaction!
Hey Nick ❤️
Oh hey it’s Nick!
It's Nick! Hey, boo! 🙂
Hey love ur vids
Hey Nick! Two of my favorite movie reactors!
Your next movie reaction video should be _"Jumanji: The Next Level"._ In my opinion, it's about as good as this one.
Yes, please do Jumanji Next Level, that would be awesome!!! 😍😍😍 Can't wait for Jumanji 4
@@tjasakosir8341 yeah that would be good
time goes by but no movie
The ending makes me so sad for Alex and Bethany - they could have made a nice couple if they'd been from the same time.
Nah, there relationship was deeper then some romantic story arc. Its one of the things that I think made it work so well
I'm actually glad they didn't go that route. The relationships in this movie felt deeper than superficial romance.
Karen Gillan is great. Have been a fan since Doctor Who. She was also Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy / Avengers films and was in a horror fil worth checking out: Oculus
"Amelia Pond! Get your coat!"
In Oculus the characters are extremely stupid, more than most horror movies, because Gillan's character had been planning for years.
Ok
@@johnsensebe3153 You must be fun at parties.
@@gabrielduarte5194 Don't get me wrong. It's still an entertaining film. Not all characters have to be geniuses. In this case, if they were, there'd be no movie.
I remember being so annoyed they were doin another Jumanji, because the original was such a favorite as a kid and then I ended up seeing it and being so pleasantly surprised. Such a fun movie and they were smart enough to make it its own thing and not try to recreate the original. While The Next Level is not as good as this one, it's still a really fun adventure movie.
I literally rewatched this movie just for Jack Black, he’s literally perfect for his role
The sequel is rrrrrreeally good. One of the great underrated modern franchises. You’ll dig it a lot.
Hahaha you were also biting your lip when Bethany was trying to teach Martha that too. Your facial expressions are so perfect when you're watching movies. So expressive. You could be an actress.
I first saw this film with a group of about two dozen friends, all going in with low expectations, and we were all shocked at how enjoyable it was. I honestly can't think of a film that is a bigger pleasant surprise.
You have 2 dozen friends?!! Wow!!!
Me and the boys rolling up to the theater to watch Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle:
All four parts were cast perfectly but the MVP is Jack Black, dude absolutely killed it 😅
Two very popular comedies from the mid-nineties, and...Condorman. That's like naming your cats Washington, Lincoln, and Yahoo Serious.
Jack Black is amazing in this movie. I liked this movie a lot more than I thought I would when I first watched it.
I agree. I'm not really a fan of Black, but he was perfect in this.
I've watched most of your movie reactions and just wanted you to know that I really appreciate the entertainment. I always look forward to seeing a new upload to watch and I enjoy the hell out of them :) You've got a great personality. Your channel is a hidden gem. Sooner or later I think you'll be adding a couple of zero's to that subscriber count.
Wow! thank you so so much!
I didn't have social media in High school either. Only really began in college. Like when you needed a college email to join facebook. Times were better then. Simpler and more socially connected.
I was apprehensive going into this movie...but ended up having a blast and pretty much laughing throughout the whole thing!
I'll be honest, I loved the original Jumanji, and really had ZERO expectations for this. But we went to see it anyway, and I was shocked at how much fun it was! Just starting watching your reaction, hope you really enjoyed it. I guess I'll find out soon. 😉
EDIT: Glad you were as pleasantly surprised by this one as I was.
What's funny is that you did the lip biting thing at 16:14 (when Dwayne was smoldering), which was before Bethany explained to Martha how to do it to draw attention to your lips at 22:54.
That was a cute
They filmed in a town I used to live in back when my then-GF was going to college! The 'Parrish Shoes' mural on the wall is still there to this day. That square where all the animals run through is Keene Central Square in Keene NH. Can't tell you how many times I've walked through it or drove through it! 😎👍
I love this movie so much! ❣ the conections between characters was well developed, specially Bethany Walker's growth throughout the movie, she's my favorite, in all honest truth i believe Alex Vreeke's character (Nick Jonas's) (Colin Hanks) and (Jack Black's) Bethany had the best relationship, more so than Martha and Spencer Gilpin.
The moment that defined the movie for me, that made it go from enjoyable to actually a very good movie, was the line "This is Alan Parish's house, I'm just living in it." It told me that the makers of the movie aren't trying to do something better than the original, they're not trying to one-up it, or modernize it, they're just telling a new story in a world you already know.
And, as crazy and impossible as it seems, the sequel was also really good. I think I like this one better, but the sequel is still a solid movie.
Everyone is fire in this movie, so funny but a great adventure at the same time.
This film was so surprisingly good. You’ll love the sequel as well.
The older grown up Alex Reak is played by Tom Hanks's son. It was a great cast and they played their counterparts in the avatars so well. The nod to Robin Williams was a beautiful touch.
I didn't think I would like a remake asvthats what I read it was but so pleasantly surprised. Great family movie.
This Jumanji took me by surprise. When I first heard about it, I honestly wasn't too sure how I felt. The cast was appealing for sure, but still I was hesitant. But they took the original formula and really put a fun twist on it. I truly thought this was super entertaining and the second one was just as entertaining as well. Love me a good popcorn flick!
Just want you to know I appreciate that you're making a lot of videos :) It makes life less depressing.
I *love* the intros to your videos, the backing music is great, you give us useful information without just rambling, and they're just long enough to feel worthwhile without just launching right into the reaction. Also I wanted to hate this movie when I first saw the trailer but unlucky for me, it turns out to be very funny and has heart, and doesn't deny the existence of the original either. Loved it.
Such a fun flick, cast perfectly! The scene with Jack Black teaching Karen Gillan how to flirt is absolute perfection 🤣
I have watched this numerous times I keep waiting to see you react to Jumanji the Next Level. Fingers crossed you do that soon. Love your videos
Just watched this reaction for the 2nd time. Absolutely loved it that much! I'd recommend the sequel, I was unsure how it would go following that ending, however they did a good job, and the actors they chose are iconic!
Karen Gillan
and Jack Black totally killed it in this.
LOL Condorman! What a blast from the past!
The kids and I watch this one regularly now. It's so much fun. All the actors did a phenomenal job
I have lots of nostalgia for Condorman, even with Michael Crawford's dodgy American accent. I remember going to see it in the cinema.
This makes me want to watch the original and both of the new ones back to back
That was absolutely amazing, thanks you for sharing this experience with me and the crew
I totally agreed with Martha back when I was in school...gym was a complete waste of time, and just a chance for all the jerks who hated you to avoid picking you for their team. Also, Karen Gillan is a stunner...It's those eyes. I swear, the girl never blinks.
I'm not crazy about reboots usually but I actually really liked this one.
I think it works because they tried a completely different style
I was a skeptic as well, loved the first movie as a kid but...this one was surprisingly effing hilarious and original.
P.S.
Alex is Tom Hanks son...you may remember him from Band of Brothers
honestly was a surprise how well they did this movie
Love it when a movie exceeds all expectations and ends up becoming a favourite must see again movie. Really enjoyed your reaction too.
Honestly I felt that Kevin Hart was just himself during this movie 😂😂
Cuz he can’t act
"That guy" who you obviously weren't impressed with, is Colin Hanks.
It's also worth pointing out that Colin Hanks isn't supposed to be an older Nick Jonas. Nick Jonas was just how the game character looked and the character's appearance has nothing to do with how the actual player looks.
@@Tantalus010 the sequel makes that even clearer
Previously seen on "Popcorn in Bed" as the new Lieutenant in the Band of Brother episode "The Last Patrol." :)
@@stevenhenry9605 And son of Tom Hanks - producer of Band of Brothers and all around cool dude.
I know you saw the original Jumanji so I just wanted to point out this fun fact: Did you know that Young Sara was played by Broadway actress Laura Bell Bundy. It was an honor meeting her recently since she’s Broadway royalty and is such a queen. Laura Bell Bundy was in Hairspray, Wicked, and Legally Blonde (as the title role of Elle Woods). I also loved this version of Jumanji too because it had an intricate twist on it.
I’m late to the game here, but have become an addict for the channel. My favorite part of this one was Cassie’s reaction to the big kiss scene. She’s so excited for them at first, then, “oh…, (disgust) oh no!…, no! Ughh…” My wife & I were laughing hysterically!!!
*Zathura: A Space Adventure,* from 2005, is actually the second movie in the Jumanji series.
Not in any official way though. It's just another movie based off a story from the same author with the same premise.
And my super favorite
@@kevindean0000 - Well, in the Zathura book, the Jumanji game is referred to, but the boy (who is actually the neighbor of the kids from Jumanji) doesn't want to play it and plays Zathura instead.
Also, the movies were released by different studios, so that further separates them, but I definitely consider them to be in the series, in spirit at least.
"I felt like they did Nick Jonas dirty" 🤣🤣🤣
I love your smiles and happiness/emotions in your videos. Definitely a light of sunshine and happiness.
LMAO the kiss. .no..oh no. No. I love this movie. Casting was perfect.
The Shawshank Redemption, Back to the Future, Saving Private Ryan, Gladiator, The Last of the Mohicans, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ghostbusters, Band of Brothers, Alien, Lord of the Rings, and now.... Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. 😜
We were on such a good roll and then she goes slumming ;)
Jumanji (1995) would have been quite OK, though. The one with Robin Williams. Original is always original.
hahaha i needed something very light and fun after all the very intensity! Don’t worry this week-Aliens, Finale of the Pacific and the first Hobbit!!!!
oh man, someone else that remembers condorman. I watched again a couple of years back, and yes, that certaintly was a series of moving pictures with sounds
I love the movie :> So campny stupid :> one reaction people need to do :>
As a kid, my very favourite film was Condorman. I am now three days shy of 40 and in my entire life I have never heard another soul even mention that film let alone admit watching it numerous times. So, for that reason (plus the awesome reaction) I'm gonna subscribe :)
12:50 In 90's era video games, when you defeat an enemy they typically disappear in a fireball.

RIP Robin Williams.
"Be yourself, pick yourself up, and always move forward. You are alive, so experience everything you can, and just _live_ . Never give up "
- Robin Williams
Yea then he killed himself. Ugh
You think they did Nick Jonas dirty? LOL. How could you say that about Tom Hanks's son?
Colin Hanks was great in the Fargo TV show, and Dexter.
This is *EXACTLY* how you make a sequel to an older property. You spin something new while staying true to the core conceit.
Glad you enjoyed it, now you have to watch the next one!
I love Karen Gillan. Ever since she was made a main character for a few seasons of Doctor Who. Then she got to be Nebula in the Avengers movies. But seeing her in this role is just, well... exciting lol. As Nebula she was completely covered in makeup and whatever to create her look and she's just so pretty.
I love this film its amazing tho if I were to play devils advocate there is 1 thing I'm kinda sad never carried over from the first film, the original Jumangi could easily pass for a horror film as the board game acts almost like at times you could argue it had a mind of its own once you picked up the dice there was no stepping away; if you accidentally drop the dice the game would just assume your rolling and if you simply place them down the game would punish you for cheating; in a way the board game was almost like the puzzle box from hellraiser something enticing than draws you in and looks harmless that secretly conceals a terrible horror
Jack Black as a teenage girl was the absolute best!
He was also enjoyable as a shark, school teacher, and a dragon warrior too.
Original Jumanji with Robin Williams is one of my favorite movies and I usually do not admit this but this 2017 version is phenomenal or on same level as original they really did this version phenomenally.
Yes, you're right about the ending of the original movie. The opening scene of this movie is meant to take place directly following the original movie.
''I'm not gonna tell you how old I am'' Don't worry, those that watched one of the LOTR videos and paid attention knows ;-)
This one surprised me in a good way too. I was expecting some cheesy half-wit remake or reboot, and instead we got a fun, funny and exciting adventure comedy with solid performances all around!
So I wanted to watch this reaction but then thought I'd enjoy it much more if I knew the film you're reacting to. So I went and watched it and I had SO much fun. As you, I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was and so I thank you for being the reason for watching this :-) And of course thank you for your reaction. You really are the best movie-reactor I've yet found and I truly enjoy coming with you on the movie-journeys. I'd suggest SO many movies to you if I could but so far, I'm hoping someone on Patreaon will suggest them anyway.
This summer, after watching this movie for the first time, my family would have our screen door open, and we'd hear this drumming (hitting plastic) noise coming from our neighbors, and my mom would say, "It's the forest drumbeats!"
It was actually pretty fun hearing the "forest drumbeats" coming from our neighbors cause it felt like a real-life Jumanji experience

I have to say that I wasn't excited about this movie when it came out, but was pleasantly surprised by how good it turned out!
"Am a map doctor" lol love it
Great video, great reaction (as always).
The only thing I disagree with is the trailer, which I found hilarious. I went to see this in the cinema, fully expecting to be disappointed - thinking that all the fun was what was crammed into the trailer and that the movie would only be ok, if that even.
Luckily, it is AWESOME!!
Glad u liked this Cassie , you should check out the third film.
I watched this in theaters with a friend, and we enjoyed it a lot more then we expected to.
I'm glad the trailer didn't give away the movie. They did a great job with this movie. I went to the theater skeptical and came out thrilled.
"Zoology bitch!" Is the best line.
All four of the main characters were great, but Jack Black stole the show IMO.
0:47 - CONDORMAN!!!!! I thought I was the only one left who ever saw it more than a dozen times! 😂👍👍
CONDORMAN!!!!!! I saw that a hundred times as a kid and loved it lol Also 3 movies at the cabin is a Canadian staple.
