So if there’s one thing I’ve learned with this song with a acoustic the bass note is ever so present and a electric is sounds so different but beautiful in its own write
It’s odd how one of the heaviest bands ever could make one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard. I always liked that about Black Sabbath. They’d give you a break with something nice and calm like this then go all out heavy on the next song
Of course. Because they weren't heavy metal just cuz some of their songs had some heavy riffs. Most of their ozzy era songs were anything but heavy metal. Tony iommi has said they were hard rock.
The bass really makes this song, the combination of guitar and bass creates a sense of melancholy and excitement, like something long awaited after a dark time or alternatively a sense of tranquility before or during something really apocalyptic.
You’re right about those few songs except FX was just all that sketchy noise. There was also ones called Don’t Start Too Late and Laguna Sunrise which were acoustic.
@@dominon929 and the jazzy part at the end of symptom of the universe, which is personally my favorite even though its basically led zepplin with more steps lol
One that would been amazing if they kept it was the instrumental guitar part at the beginning of Black Sabbath but they replaced it with the thunderstorm and bells, and there’s no studio version thankfully there are recordings of it from their live gigs in 1970
Takes me back to my teenage years. Bugging mom for 10 bucks so I can get 3 hits of acid so I could trip with my friends and listen to my older brothers records. No quarter was a good Zeppelin song to listen to tripping. The soft parade was out there as well. The music was B4 my time but I got my use out of it and learned to appreciate it while doing so. Actually grew up a metal head 12 years younger than my classic rocking brother. Today I listen to mostly oldies and classic rock. I Like metal still, but doesn't satisfy when I just want to tap my toe and connect with the message. Find myself relating to a bunch of words written by a bunch of dead guys over 50 years ago or so and amazing how they make perfect sense now compared to when I was 14. How much I've seen, how much I've learned and how far I've come in 46 short years. No regrets and had a fucking blast back then and going to so many concerts. Black Sabbath was probably my favorite show tho and all 4 original members topped it all off... Ozzfest 99. Damn it doesn't feel like almost 25 years.
This is the most soothing & calming song i ever heard in my life. I always play this song when im nervous or need to calm my hectic mind... if someone can please recommend anything similar I’d appreciate it!!
@@JohnnyangelNIU Haha, I'm here to listen to the original Orchid song as I'm learning to play it on my guitar.. And the other song I'm working on at the moment is... Beyond the Knowing. I literally just played both in the last 10 minutes ( kind of😁 ) so your comment made me smile
Only recently listened to this song and full album . One of the best albums ever made it has to be said. This song Is amazing. Reminds me of the thin lizzy song banshee. Less than 2 minutes long but deep, sombre and emotionally cutting.
I was once looking to my girlfriend sleeping and gave her a goodnight kiss while listening to this song. Now everytime I hear orchid, I only dream of this moment
i can picture this at the end of a tongue in cheek action movie where the final scene is a really slow mo dramatic explosion showing the villains comedically terrified reaction before the slomo explosion engulfs them
this song i believe is about the universe, it reminds me somehow of the "unanswered question" of Charles Ives, somehow...that same, never-ending harmony which is very scary, as it speaks not to humans...
Philip Glass was composing way before this, and also this particular composition is more inspired from a lute, and not necessarily Philip Glass. Though I see where you are coming from, as inspiration for composers is through several generations.
Sometimes we need a quick break from the headbanging to relax.

J.S Bach wouldn't have felt ashamed of composing this amazing music. Such a pleasure to play it on guitar !
Geezer's Bass adds a baddass accompaniment to Tony's picking
Tom N what bass?I don't hear geezer
I think it might be some kinda synth component, by but there are definitely bass notes underlying the song
This sounds like a cello, or some kinda bass for orchestra Idk
Contrabass.
The bass really makes this song, the combination of guitar and bass creates a sense of melancholy and excitement, like something long awaited after a dark time or alternatively a sense of tranquility before or during something really apocalyptic.
FX, Fluff, Embryo and Orchid…Ozzy-era's Sabbath has many impressive instrumental tracks by Iommi.

What other songs of Black Sabbath are like this & Planet Caravan? A more chilled out vibe, tryna get into them my own way
Solitude in Master of Reality is great
"she's gone" is really good , Laguna sunrise is a beautiful instrumental also
Fluff is my favorite instrumental,
Also never say die and Turn up the night are quite upbeat.
Zeitgeist by Black Sabbath is another good one. It's not all instumental, but it's good.
I would definitely listen to Laguna Sunrise

the first part captures you instantly and then it starts running but you can't seem to catch it all the way till the end.
Sweet tune I often play to mellow out
I had master of reality on 8 track back in 1975 and Lord Of This World would come on after this song, like the calm before the storm.
This song speaks with my heart
timeless...love it.
That's right! And that from one of the hardest rock bands of the 70th/80th...! Simply great! Greetings from Germany!
J.S. Bach would dig this.
