    After thoroughly addressing the first dimension of Islam in his first four lectures of this series, Abdal Hakim uniquely explores the final two dimensions in Islam of iman and ihsan. This talk, which consists of two parts, is another highly intellectual discourse about a vast religious science. The speaker begins by providing a historical background in an effort to identify the processes that brought this science about. This lecture effectively paints a colorful picture of the nature of the spiritual life in Islam and examines its foundation. What does the Qur'an say about these two types of higher knowledges, imam and ihsan? How does the Muslim come to know God if He cannot be seen? And what about the early Islamic controversies of free will vs. predestination and the existence or "problem" of evil? How does Islam answer the age-old philosophical questions of why the world exists and what the purpose of life is? (Recorded at the Dar al Islam Teachers' Institute seminar). Other topics discussed: Emanuel Kant, the 99 names of God, the film "Barakah", the volition of God to create the universe, heedlessness, thikr (meditation or contemplation), and the absence of symbols for God in Islam.

    The disconnect between Shaykh Abdal's elucidation of the classical Islamic tradition and the stultifying muck we see from so-called salafists and wahhabis is astonishing. If this were presented on a large scale to the Western world, more people would turn to Islam than we could possibly imagine.

      If it’s any consolation there is always going to be a disconnect between the ideal and the real in the realm of religious thought contra lived religious experience in the world. I experience this even as a Christian and it drives me nuts having to lower the bar to accomodate the dire state of things in the Church versus in the abstract world of theological study.

    As a simple mystic, allied with no religion or philosophy, whose first love is Source/God, I find so much of deep beauty here. It's my first deeper look into Islam. Such depth! Such vision. Amazingly beautiful.
    It's as if somehow you're closer to your inner being or soul - don't know your words. So wonderful, too, that you didn't get sidetracked by going completely into linear mind. There is life in this that is refreshing - clear connection to Source.
    Glad I stopped by to take a look.

      TheseEyesGod Listening again. I know what it is that sets this out for me from all other religious stuff I've encountered. It's that you're far more aware than most of the great wisdom of the Heart (by which I don't mean the chakra or the organ, but that of the divine within). Great, shining beauty, here.
      Too bad we can't all live together in honor & peace - respecting each one's individual choices - those of every faith & of none. We're getting there, overall. I see & sense much more understanding, overall, even in many RUclips comment threads.
      You may not agree, but my dream is for all among humanity to wrap arms of divine, unconditional Love & respect around one another - not seeking to change or convert one another, but rather to just live the experience of the divine love affair - between Source & the being/soul - trusting to the divine within each one to bring what is best about.
      Deep Respect to you

      +"So where are you going?" (chapter 81 verse 26) - Thanks for sharing. These physical eyes aren't so good for reading these days, so I looked for a PDF or some sort of electronic version (so I could magnify the text to suit). Didn't find anything - but I did find that it's a highly respected text. May find a way to read it one day.
      Have pondered how to sum up my "spiritual journey," but don't find the words to contain that. Can say it's very active, productive - like going thru many "deaths," as older selfs who I thought I was drop away - always new. I find things to be accelerating at an ever increasing pace - for those of us actively journeying. Confusion/chaos seems to be increasing among those more wedded to mind & 3D.
      All is ever well, tho - can't be otherwise, once one finds one's way more deeply within. Hope things are well with you, too. As for Islam, my "research" consists of the Arise My India vids, to which I'm subbed.

    The exception in the ayah “Fe sajadu illa Iblis= They all prostrated except Iblis”, is not continuous but separated. In the separated/ discrete exception, the exception is not from the kind of the one it was excepted from. E.g, in the sentence “Jaal qawmu illa baqarah= the entire of the community came except a cow”, the word cow is exceptional from the community but is not from their kind. So, from that verse, -in terms of grammar- there is no obligation to say that satan is from the angels.

      Such a thing as Christian marriage never was and never could be. Christ did not marry, nor did he establish marriage; neither did his disciples marry. But if Christian marriage cannot exist, there is such a thing as a Christian view of marriage. And this is how it may be formulated: A Christian (and by this term I understand not those who call themselves Christians merely because they were baptized and still receive the sacrament once a year, but those whose lives are shaped and regulated by the teachings of Christ), I say, cannot view the marriage relation otherwise than as a deviation from the doctrine of Christ,-as a sin. This is clearly laid down in Matt. v. 28, and the ceremony called Christian marriage does not alter its character one jot. A Christian will never, therefore, desire marriage, but will always avoid it.

    The Quran Contradicts Itself
    Quran Sura 2:29 & Quran 41:9-11 says the earth was created first, then heaven.
    Quran 79:27-30 says heaven was created first, then allah went to finish earth.
    It cannot decide if earth was created first or heaven. To make matters worse, the consensus of Muslims is that the earth that was created first, which is materialism. It is like saying a virtual reality is created first.

    But what's the Ashari solution to the 3 brothers story? I notice that every time that story is brought up, Asharis put down the Mutazila thought without actually explaining the solution to the problem...

    • @mr.safensound4238
      @mr.safensound4238 6 лет назад +6

      Cha the problem doesn't need a solution because it's only purpose was to illustrate the weaknesses in the Mu'tazilite philosophy. If we have to explain why God made one brother live a life of sin that led him to hell, this is like us asking why God made hell and sin in the first place. Part of the answer lies in how God wants to test us. So for example he allows Iblis (Satan) "free will" knowing that Iblis will sin, and that this will lead him to hell. So if that wasn't good for Iblis why did God create him in the first place? Well we know how Iblis is actually a big part of the test of this life, in that we must defeat his attempts to seduce us to sin. If that is part of his purpose then should God punish him? If God was fair and just with him, giving him a fair chance to repent and do right for himself then it surely won't be God that oppresses him, but Iblis that puts himself in hell by his own oppression. And in any case his existence although leads to punishment for him, leads to blessings and rewards of paradise for others who strove to overcome him.
      Think about it, why have cruel tyrants on earth? What would Moses have been without having to overcome Pharaoh? In causing suffering to others there was ironically some long term benefit in Pharaoh's tyranny in that it made heroes out of those that were patient and sought God's help and support to oppose him.
      Hope that helps answer your question. And Allah knows best.

    Its Allah swt nature to be all knowing so Allah knows how it will all conclude. But people do not know the future , that is free will the abscence of knowledge of the future. Purpose of life is for people to come to know themselves , because if you punish a child for something he will do in the future he will surely say but maybe i will not do that. Allah swt has given life for you to see who you are, and then there is no escape from that realisation.

    @al natla, By suggesting that "blondes" or whites have nothing in common with Islam or Arabic names, you just exposed your ignorance. Islam means submission to God & people of any race or ethnicity can submit to God. There are Arabs who are Christians & others of the Jewish faith!

    Next time before replying, try coming in with a better comprehension of what has been said. I am well aware what a Jinn is according to Islamic interpretation. The Judeo-Christian understanding of these entities termed them as demons/fallen angel. That's what Abdal Hakim mentioned. No one is claiming that Jinns are fallen angel in it's literal term. It's semantics.

    The Q'uran says in many Sura Allah gave land of Israel to children of Israel as well as many kind things about the Jews....why is this ignored ?

    "And Allah created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop; then He made you mates. And no female conceives nor does she give birth except with His knowledge. And no aged person is granted [additional] life nor is his lifespan lessened but that it is in a register. Indeed, that for Allah is easy." 35:11. For example, if I say for tea you need water and at other place I say milk and at other place I say you need sugar and so on. It is additional information and not contradictions. Allah knows best.

    it's too bad that people must look to a book to ultimately understand themselves or some outside creature like a god.

      Its not about understanding yourself :), it's about developing yourself.

      Abdalla Ahmed Mahmoud but don't you think that in order to develop yourself you must understand yourself? I read once that our deepest desires help us to understand God and ourselves.

      Afcourse you have to understand yourself, but you are never one thing, everyday you learn something new, and thus everyday hopefully you are changing. but when I sent that message I'm talking about the Quran though, literaly one of the things that it does is teach human beings how to be Human, to show love, compassion, and forgivness to all people.
      one of my favourite Sayings of the prophet is this;
      "None of you will believe until you love for your brother what you love for yourself.", brother here being human brother.

      Abdalla Ahmed Mahmoud that's a very good saying! It reminds me of the Jewish saying that what is hateful to you do not do unto others. Or the Christian Golden Rule. There are many similar thoughts and sentiments that run through Islam that echo the other two Great monotheisms.

    Wrong quotation from Quran please. Azazeal was not rejected for using the mind but he was rejected after a knowledge test was put before two sides angels and Adam. Adam passed it with distinction but angels expressed their limited role of being less informed. So they were ordered to bow to Adam who was more knowledgeable. That was refused by Azazeal who referred to his creation better than Adam. So in banishing Azazeal what Allah reflected was that superiority belonged to knowledge not the material of creation. And that has proven correct airways.
    Please don't impose on Islam your limited and half cooked knowledge of Islam. If you are an analyst be objective and observant not subjective and judgemental.

    @cuhullan89: Well you have to read Quran in entirety to understand the nature of Satan. When the Satan said that 'You have created me out of fire' it proves that he was not an angle because they are created from light and dzinn are out of fire. "And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire". Chapter 55:15.
