Wow, a TON has changed since I made this video. I now have a dedicated arcade space in my backyard and I picked up more full sized cabinets. I love the idea of getting a 1up and modding to my hearts content My questions lie in what pc parts do you slap on em what mobo and cpu are they are they ddr3 or ddr4 What kinda fps fidelity increases did your mk2 and blitz mods bring those boxes compared to stock Oh and what's the best aftermarket place to get mods for the 1up on
@@jgvtc559 Its not a PC, if you mean that in the traditional sense. Its running a ARM microcontroller with a video controller card. In a way, it is almost identical to a Raspberry Pi, without all the extra GPIO pins. 5 yrs ago, they were running a 32-bit ARM Cortex-A8 CPU, which is plenty powerful enough for any 2D rendering. Hopefully now days they are running the newer 64-bit Cortex mcu. Pandora's Box and Raspberry Pi are the most common replacements. Basically, anything that can run an Arcade ROM emulator, like Retro Pie. The very old Raspberry Pi 3B+ can be had for under $30 and houses the ARM Cortex-A53 64--bit, Quad-Core mcu. This would seemingly be an upgrade from what A1Up uses, but again, its probably overkill for what these games demand. As far as I know, very little is being done to reproduce the smooth, lag-free CRT look. There are products that claim to do this, but I dont think they are cheap.
For me, the only way I can own a small scale version of an arcade is to go the Arcade1up route. Price and space is a huge factor for me. I live in a condo. I was able to cram 10 Arcade1up cabs in my place and make an arcade room! I absolutely love these Arcade1up cabs! I was able to carry them inside and put them together by myself! They are all on refrigerator dolly’s so I can move them around. Golden Axe, NBA Jam, TMNT, Star Wars Atari, Star Wars Pinball, Outrun, Pac-Man, Ms. Pacman, Final Fight, Marvel vs Capcom. There’s just no way that I would have been able to live out my childhood dreams without Arcade1up! Im able to invite friends over and relive those times when we used to hit up the arcades after school. Endless fun for me!
@@nerychristian stock games on the ATgames cabinet are pretty bad. Also the cabinets are pretty boring so you wouldnt really want more than one in a room.
Enjoy your cabs man! Sounds like you have an awesome arcade room. That’s what its all about. Gaming with mates - not always online but in person as we did back in the day🕹️😃🔥
I own thirteen original arcade machines and two 1Up Arcade machines. When the 1Up machines were $399, it was a good deal. However, still not as fun as the original with the lighter cabinets, cheaper controllers, and whacky sounds at times but not bad for that price range. However, once it got to $699, I started to look for the original cabinet instead. I recently added a Street Fighter Championship series with dual 19" wells-Gardner monitors for $599. The cabinet needed some work to it but the monitor was perfect. It feels sturdy and the arcade monitor just gave it that 80's feeling.
I guess they have deals from time to time. I just ordered one for my granddaughter. $699 on sale for $399 at Best Buy. Looks like they are all on sale. I would buy any of them around that price, but for sure hesitate at $699.
They really *do* feel and look like toys. The sales make sense. No one's buying them at the intended price needed to make enough profit. i still don't see $699 worth of anything in any of their setups.
After playing MAME for years on my PC and Laptop I'm finally ready to build a cabinet. I'm leaning towards a 32" wide model, maybe a Japanese sit down style and also a racing/flight cabinet as well. With those, my electronic dart board, a wall mounted PC jukebox project, a round wood table w/chairs in a corner for cards complete with a picture of dogs playing poker and a portable pool table project that swings up and wheels out of the way it should be a heck of a game room. As for kids and arcades, in the early 80's my hockey team celebrated at Shakey's Pizza and we were in the small arcade room in the back. One of my team mates was wearing new cowboy boots and discovered that if he kicked the coin door as hard as he could about 10 times he'd get a free play. He must have kicked that thing a few hundred times in total. Wise not to leave kids unsupervised with anything you care about because they're stupid little assholes.
No time to deal with all those cons of real arcades. Hoping A1up can mimic the real ones just enough...i think with time A1up will get better. Also, the online play is a bonus.
I have 4 Arcade 1Up machines myself and I have moved them in and out of the garage, up and down stairs in my house and I've it all by myself. With a help of a simple 2 wheeled hand dolly. My kids are 13 and 10. They have been playing my Arcade 1Ups since I bought my first one about 4 years ago and they've never done any damage to them. Also they come with anchor kits to attach them to the wall so they don't tip over.
I've been collecting arcade games for 25 years. I'm in my mid 50's, and I enjoy the fact that these 1up games are light, small, easy to move, and work without hassle. I wasn't really interested in these around the first generation when the cabinets were generic, but since A1U has started making closer to realistic cabinet shapes and art, I've been all in. I'm going to sell my real coin-op cabs and replace them with these in my arcade.
@@toddmoore9138 The other 49 are irrelevant if the lack of quality makes me decide to not buy it. Any issues you may have with actual hardware will be 10x worse with *cheap* hardware an' you can't tell me these don't look cheap. The art looks like it's coming from *used* cabs! xD
@@mikejonesnoreally Makes you decide not to buy it? That's great. You be you. The rest of what you said makes no sense whatsoever. I can tell you that the Tron and Dragons Lair I got look fantastic and were pristine from the box, and having owned over 50 coin op video games and 60 pinball machines over the past 30 years, I think I can decide on what hardware is better and more reliable. That old arcade hardware (board level) was absolute trash, designed for a 3-5 year life-span tops. I spent more time fixing the crap than playing it. The older I get, the more I value reliability and low maintenance. So, that's why I'd do something so stupid, since you asked.
I do all I can to keep the CRTs since they actually look better on these old games. Two of my CRTs just went down in one night but we can fix them. Once I can't, I'll go LCD
I just love the amusement experience arcade cockpit racers and other deluxe cabinets have. I feel these experiences can't be emulated in home ports and are generally exclusive to the arcade experience. There are also the many games that have unique control schemes and panels that make them special in their arcade form. I generally try to add these types of games to my own collection. The biggest con to arcade collecting apart from their weight and prices is the constant repair cycles you'll experience. You will need to learn how to fix them yourself and finding parts can sometimes leave a machine down for months. Yet, they are so worth it if you have the space.
Great video! I think you nailed it with your analogy comparing the original arcade machines to classic cars. I found myself thinking the same thing recently.
Very well done vid! As a collector of both like yourself, some are purists about the real thing (thinking A1U are toys) but the facts are, older hardware in all aspects won't last forever and it is a viable option.
Used to have a garage arcade and was awesome but space now I much prefer the 3/4 stuff. But...having two rush arcades hooked up in my garage for races was so cool.
I´m fine with either option. But what I ended up doing was building my own full sized cabinet and using spare computer parts for the internals. Surprisingly because I used reciycled parts it ended up costing me roughly the same as a new 1Up cabinet. I can personalize the design to my liking, it´s easy to modify and I think it´s better to reuse those parts rather than having them end up in a e-waste pile somewhere. What I´ve seen other people do is to import one of those japanese style cabinets (Like a Sega Astro city.) and running mame there, that´s another good option.
I like that recycling idea. I actually did that with my first two cabs. But both old PCs died lol. At least I squeezed out every last bit of life before buying a new PC. Well, a used PC. So I guess I'm still recycling lol.
1Up Arcades are Walmart junk imported from China. Original arcades are worth saving for and finding one. Learning how to fix and or restore old arcade machines is half the fun.
I just picked up my 4th real arcade today! Fixing them up and cleaning them is satisfying. Moving them, not so much haha. I made the mistake of only bringing my wife to help today. She’s surprisingly strong but it was rough.
The 1UPs are big enough but also small/lightweight to put a bunch in a small space. Essential mods like lighted coin doors & better controls rly aren’t expensive & very easy to do. Combine all that w/ keeping an eye out for sales, A1UP can rly get you what you want. Note: I would of course prefer the real thing if i had a mansion & unlimited time/money for repairs 😅
What’s cool is Galloping Ghost Arcade is nearby and they also fix arcades if you don’t know what Galloping Ghost Arcade is you have to go there as a gamer as it’s the world’s largest arcade and it has over 1000 arcades cabinets they literally own about 2 to 3 blocks worth of buildings
@@KillerArcadeGames Have you been there before? So, Thursday is their midnight closing. If you come on Friday and Saturday, it's open until 2 a.m. I highly recommend if you're looking to get something to eat, Tony's down the street. They're very inexpensive and they give way more portions in their food. But, there's Mexican places, a lot of other places around there, they're pretty good. Just know, if you're going to be at the arcade, they own a pinball arcade down the street. So, if you get more than just the arcade pass, you can get the daily pass and head over to the pinball arcade. Which is a little smaller, but it's still nice. And you can actually see Galloping Ghosts various shops. They own an auto shop and various other stores around there, which are closed. Now, the gym of course is open, but I doubt you're going to be traveling to the gym. But, enjoy yourself when you're in the area. Just know, Silent Hill is sadly, most likely going to be broke when you get there. And sadly, House of the Dead 3 and 4, sadly are not working properly. But, definitely check out the Mortal Kombat 1, and I'm talking about the 2023 version. They have a custom arcade just for that, so again, enjoy yourself.
Arcade1Ups were okay value at best I think (especially with the controls making them feel more like toys). But the prices of the new ones now are getting pretty silly, without any noticeable improvement to the hardware, so I definitely don't think they are worth it anymore. Having said that, they have multiple games on each unit, and it would cost you a heck of a lot more to buy a real cab of each of those games individually than it would to buy an Arcade1Up, not to mention take up a lot more space. But if you only want the games there are cheaper ways you can legitimately own them, too.
I just want Tempest and Stargate. Maybe Gorf and Galactica and Centipede. Any suggestions? What about Creative Arts? What's the best value? Thanks WhitePoint.
Definitely how much space you have usually determines which path you go…I prefer a modded A1Up so you can really customize to your liking (art and all), while still getting the benefits of saving space, leaving room for more cabs if you want. But yeah if I had the space, I would have a double racing setup for 2P as the mandatory :)
Thanks so much for posting this! I've been thinking about getting an arcade cabinet for my home and gift one to my dad. You've given me a few things to consider.
This is why i leave it to emulation. I ain’t ever spending that kind of money on retro games. i used to buy old games and they were super cheap nobody played them anyway. Now its a bunch of price scalpers and just resellers fludding the market.
This video gives a really good comparison. I don’t think anything else really needs to be added. Personally, I give the edge to arcade1up just because of the size and the fact that it has online play. Regardless, I really want to get a viewlix cabinet to add to my collection.
Thanks! I tried to be fair and honest to both sides. It seems a lot of people are split. Some say 1up is better for them and some say the original can't be beat.
I appreciate the car metaphor! Petition to see a video of you bear hugging the Arcade1Up down the stairs lol. Quite the setup you got my friend. I used to love going to the arcade as a kid. Didn't realize they could be so affordable these days.
Great video! Messing with RetroPie is what got me into arcade collecting. I wish I could afford a Killer Instinct PCB for my original KI cab. Trying to set up MAME/Retroarch to run in 15khz and trying to make everything look original has been a hell of a job!
Arcade1up failing the kid test is nothing personal lol, every time I check arcade displays in stores, the joystick top is removed or the artwork is torn out, good thing I waited for the Mvsx and had no problem letting my younger cousins play it, at least with the joystick panel.
Everyone wants the real arcade, but there is a lot involved in upkeep which most people aren't equipped or willing to put up with. Arcade 1-up is a compromise which is close enough without too much hassle. And really, not everyone is going to go hog wild and buy multiple cabs.
Thats true. Its a fair bit of work to get real arcades back to good working order. I haven't had them long enough to know long term upkeep but I hope it will be a good experience.
this is the first video of yours I have seen and it was very good! Just bought my second one up game the first one I've had nearly 3 years. It's Head for the most part light usage. Now after watching this video, I am. wanting to learn how to upgrade my cabinets, etc. can you please share some resources and videos on your upgrade work? thank you and I'm now a new subscriber. 16:47
Thanks for this video. I hope to someday get my hands on a Ms.Pacman machine as I loved playing it at my trips to the laundromat as a child. I'm ok with either the arcade original or the 1 up, so this video was extremely helpful
So far my 1ups have done well with kids my 2 year old son loves playing duck hunter and constantly wants to play star wars pinball I just make sure his hands are clean and watch him when he plays
Best overall comparative pros / cons video of real arcade cabinets vs Arcade 1ups I have seen to date (And I have watched many since the 1Ups hit the scene). I own both, real arcade cabs and some 1Ups. You are pretty much spot on. I could maybe debate a very minor point or two with you but it would be minor at best. I would recommend your video to anyone interested in either the real deal arcades or 1UPs. I have no doubt there are some that would have disagreements with you and I know, in particular, their are a good number that cannot even think of giving 1Ups a thought, let alone say anything positive of them. I would have to write a lot more to cover that but to each their own. The points you make here summarize both pro and con to each fairly well. A little research into either by those persons interested would prove it. Happy gaming!
Thank you for making this video. So many shrill fan boys keep saying “Arcade1up is cheap compared to real arcade”… they used to be… now they are similar in price.
If you look around enough you'll find many real arcades cheaper than A1U. The argument then becomes "Yeah but they need expensive and difficult work" which isn't always true. I just picked up a real Killer Instinct for nearly what they're going to charge for the "Pro series" Arcade1Up cabs. I got lucky and do need to buy a few replacement parts for cosmetic fixes, otherwise it worked perfectly. My Hydro Thunder needed a $60 part and about 2 hours of unscrewing things and putting it back together. Thats probably more work than most are willing to do though. On the other hand, there's no chance Hydro Thunder is going to be released in Arcade1Up form since you can't even emulate the game.
I get it, Arcade 1up is aching in on a nostalgia feeling, a cabinet playing classics with official art on the sides. I also get that they’re “undercutting costs” as in less expensive materials and hardware then the authentic cabinets, as well as the costs of buying and maintaining authentic. I do feel they could drop the price done again. Starting at $400 for only three versions of Street Fighter II is a bit much. They could easily sells these for less again I feel. I would really like to build my own with an emulation device as it’s hardware. For what a Arcade1up costs, think of the potential of emulating your own favourites I’m sure someone hates I said Emulation, but I’m a huge fan. It’s unrealistic to peruse a rare game for unbelievable price points when, yeah emulation isn’t the real thing, but at least it’ll be playable
I have done my research on buying both ways and I like the Arcade1ups better than the real ones. I try to buy as many as I can from companies who offer the longest warranties. Usually that’s Walmart. We’ve bought about 20 Arcade1up cabs and so far have only had issues with one. The Outrun. It had a pedal issue. Got that fixed by buying a new pedal from Arcade1up for $32 ($18 plus shipping and tax) Otherwise all have been good. I know buying warranties is probably stupid but we like the piece of mind that comes with them. I also like the Arcade1up because I can buy like 2 or 3 if for the cost of what one real one would be. So I can grow my Arcade1up collection faster and have more variety over buying the real ones. And lastly I’m not tech savvy at all so I would be scared buying a real one and having it break down. And lastly the weight of the real ones would suck. I’ll stick to buying Arcade1ups and searching for deals on them to save even more money. For example I just picked up Frogger for $349 on sale at Lowe’s!
Excellent video! Fellow central Texan here, I too dread storing cabinets in the garage. The garage is the only space for my Arcade1ups and my original Time Crisis 3 cabinet. I'll just have to do my best to keep them covered in plastic or something when the humidity gets bad.
Guess that I'm confused. Why not get an old PC and put up MAME. Then get a MAME cabinet, joysticks, etc. Put in whatever quality you like. Then when something goes bad, just replace it. And, of course, put all the MAME stuff on a separate USB in case your older PC died. Then, when that happens just swap it w/ another ten year old PC.
I did that in the past but when Arcade1Up made their cabinets, I took it as an opportunity to make my own MAME machine out it and have something "close" to the representation of a Killer Instinct, which I'd always wanted. The main reason I didn't like the one PC and joystick set up is I like the feeling of playing on a cabinet. I loved going to arcades and really missed the feel of it. Arcade1Up's cabinets satisfied that hunger...for a bit. I made cabinets to represent the games and button configurations I'd always wanted but hit a wall, I couldn't have the sit down racing cabinets I'd wanted so I took a chance and bought a real one. Then another. Then started thinking about how I could get them inside the house, which was impossible. So I built an arcade room in my backyard and now I'm buying more and more real cabinets lol. It definitely got a little out of hand but I'm having fun doing it, the channel is helping fund it and I have the real games I've always wanted like Killer Instinct. I guess I really enjoy the physical part of arcade games as much as the gameplay itself.
@@KillerArcadeGames Just one point. Isn't is possible to build a MAME cabinet? Certain that it is, granted that I myself have not done it. This is not only playing the games on your PC. But adding your own custom cabinet, joysticks, etc. Also not being locked into a specific motherboard, etc.
It is and thats what I did with all the 1Up cabinets I have. And one of mine has the arcade PCB inside. I never liked their emulation and mostly didn't like their game selection. I could have built a MAME cabinet (or paid someone to make me one since I'm not a great woodworker) but that didn't appeal to me.
I own three original arcade cabs, Final Fight, Ninja Gaiden, and Pit Fighter. I bought them very cheap in the early 2000s. I prefer the originals, mainly because of size, and the use of a tube. However, I am happy arcade1ups are available. I just feel over time, 1up has increased their prices to the point that purchasing one is not reachable for many.
I may disagree there. I don't think Arcade1Up's circuit boards are as well made. I've already heard of many people's PCBs dying, they typically get replaced under warranty but its concerning. If you have ever seen the amount of time (typically measured in hours or minutes) the real arcade hardware logs, its mind boggling how they're still working. For example, my Hydro Thunder cabinet, which is just a PC showed a ridiculous amount of time logged, the time spent in a race (meaning being played) was 254 days, 11 hours and 35 minutes! The game had also earned over $48,000 in it's time in use. I don't believe Arcade1Up hardware could last that long. I'm even less likely to believe the cabinet could hold up to that amount of play. Thats not a knock on A1U though, they just weren't built for that kind of use. I didn't even know what Extreme Home Arcade Megacade was, I looked it up and they look well made. Thanks for watching!
@@KillerArcadeGames Well we can't say for sure how long the Arcade1ups will hold up since they have been in business for only 3 or 4 years I believe. that said, I have an original Street Fighter Cabinet from 2018 that is still holding up just fine and it is played regularly. These things are cell phone based, so they should hold up for a long time. And if something should break, it will be easily and cheaply replaceable compared to an original cabinet.
14:00 - Another pro about real arcades is they are commercially licensed and have coin mechs, offering a business value letting the machines retain value, while 1up`s are just cheap toys without resale value
That’s absolutely true. You could make money off of your purchase in that case. I’ve seen people try and make 1Up arcades though. It’s always such a bad idea and probably illegal.
It was fun! I was never much of a fan of those Jersey Jack pinball machines, I don't know why, maybe a bad experience with a machine that wasn't in good condition. But I was really interested in their new releases, apparently everyone else was too and I never found them empty haha.
I agree. Have you seen the NFL Blitz? It is the worse I've seen as far as skin graphics. It is very grainy. Seems like for a NEW, RELEASED cabinet it would be the best if not better then the other prior released cabinets.
Wow! Where did you ever find a K.I. that *small!* o,o @ 2:45 WaitUP you're trying to say that these things being a third the size of a regular cabinet and made from cheap platic parts as opposed to sanwa or authentic arcade quality parts AT LEAST is a *selling* point?? Yeah, have fun with your 1,000 echoing bots i'm going to go look for an honest......wait. no. i don't even need to do that since 1UP is apparently paying people for reviews!
@@mikejonesnoreally I wish they'd paid me for my review. They didn't even send me the cabinet. They've never given me a single thing and I have no relationships with anyone at the company. My opinion stays the same. Theres no way everyone who loves arcade cabinets can own the real thing. Even if they had the room, theres not enough of the machines to go around. Arcade1Up is not perfect and I'm fully willing to call them out when they make a stupid move. Blitz is a pretty terrible release, I've said that many times. I also have no plans to buy more of their cabinets now that I have room for full sized machines. I'll say it again just so you aren't confused, I've never received anything from Arcade1Up. You've got the wrong channel.
I find all of mine on Facebook Marketplace. You could go to auctions though. There’s arcade auctions in most major cities occasionally. There’s one in Dallas. There’s one online too, captains auctions. You have to get it shipped which makes it expensive.
I love being able to buy/have my own arcade cabs, and not going broke in the process. I only have 2 so far lol. I'm just getting started. Thanks for the video. It makes me wanna buy more arcade1up cabinets lol. 👍🤙
What do you think about the modded ones that have 100000+ games, almost all the consoles, and it has costume body with the design you want and the controllers you want
This is a debate me and my friend had for decades. He owns a collection of real arcade machines, I mean all the four players arcade machines, and dozens of other fighting game cabinets, including Japanese cabinets. Me, I only own one xbox cabinet, it feels like a real cabinet, but it's obviously a fake one, but the maintenance cost and space is a godsend and I can play any game I want on one cabinet, it may not be the real deal, but close enough for all intents and purposes. On the other hand my friend has dozens of cabinets, some don't work, most are collecting dust, making his house like a hoarder house, no thank you. For me real arcades are not meant to be collected, their purpose and design is meant for arcades, where random people can join in if they wanted to, that was part of the experience for me, they're meant for short bursts of fun, eating your quarters away, not to be taken seriously and played for hours with a few of your selected friends, I feel that's what consoles were meant for.
Great topic! Having 1ups and modding has been great and very enjoyable but finally getting a full size K I last summer, I am leaning towards more full size cabinets. Granted, I am limited on space so having a few 1ups might just provide enough room to get a few full size cabinets. Out of all my 1 ups, I would possibly sell 2 of them ( would never sell my 1up K I mod :) ) to make room for a fullsize. I still have 1 more 1up mod to do but after that, I am thinking fullsize for now on.
Having both is nice, its sad that some on either side of the topic think you have to go all one or the other lol. I'm totally out of space for the moment but I still don't think I will get rid of any of my Arcade1Ups. The KI is also staying for me! Its my first.
@@KillerArcadeGames hello once again KAG ,Kahblah ,, I have always loved mortal kombat-2 ,,you are lucky you have the good version of arcade-1up mortal kombat-2 ,,,the bad version is newer ,boxy shaped at the top ,the new one's angle and shape make it noticably harder to view the screen ,terrible ,,,and more unforgivable they set the joystick platform recessed into the cabinet , player one's left hand smacks into the plywood ,player two's right hand smacks into the plywood ,simply unforgivable ,,,at least that's my opinion ,,,🖖😸😸👍
It’s possible but most PCBs seem to last a very long time. I have now bought 7 real machines and none of mine have had issues. I have had to do several monitor repairs though.
Price biggest factor for me. I can get Arcade 1ups all day pretty cheap. Especially the ones they are selling like the vector games, Tron, etc. I have 50 arcade games and a couple of Arcade 1ups and love both. I would even like to get some more Arcade 1ups.
50 arcade games!? Good lord! I do think there's room for both of these in someone's home arcade. The hardcore real arcade guys turn their nose up at A1U. I would always prefer the real thing but for games that are emulated well and aren't my all time favorites, I'm fine with using an A1U.
I am still thinking about the Tron 1up.. I would love a Real Arcade Tron.. but man they are out of site... some of them are really hard to get.. I kind of look at case by case another that's expensive is Dragon's Lair.. arcade prices on it is really rough.. so I thank Arcade1up for at least giving us a little of the feel, but there are a lot of arcade games that are not too expensive and I shop for both when I look... you can run across that game you remember but it's not a Tron or Dragon's Lair, or in your case a KI and you can get a pretty good deal... great coverage I think you are spot on.
I agree with you 100%. Especially Arcade1up not passing the kid test. I allowed my kid (8yr) to play my Arcade1up maybe 3x. After that, I said never again. Frankly, I don’t even play it. For me, it’s just a display piece. A little nostalgia from my arcade days. I collect the Capcom fighters and frankly, I enjoy them more on the Dreamcast or Saturn.
Trying to decide between The Arcade Guys and Quality Arcades...any idea the differences? They look pretty similar. The only real difference I can find is it seems quality arcades has awesome wraps like star wars and TMNT..where at least in the website the arcade guys doesn't have anything like that at all. Otherwise they look pretty similar, have you seen or hear any comparisons or anything?
Great video. I've been buying original arcade cabinets for many years. Decided to give A1U a try. Building it was fun, but once I had it up and running, I was completely underwhelmed. It was so tiny. Looked ridiculous. Two people playing at once was a joke. Youre both essentially stading on the side of the cabinet. I retunred it the next day. Never bought another one. Still buying my original cabinets and love them. If A1U ever starts making full size original arcade replicas, I will give them another try. And I'm not talking about the garbage pro series or deluxe cabinets. I'm talking full size!!! They do that...im in!!!
Hahah yeah it’s got to be tough to go from full sized machines to a 1Up. They do look hilarious next to real machines. I may have to make a follow up to this video. So much changed for me. I now have an arcade building in my back yard and am slowly replacing 1Ups with real machines. I also feel Arcade1Up as a company has stagnated. Nothing special coming from them anymore.
I recorded this recently just showing the inside. ruclips.net/video/EcQtvafBe00/видео.html I spent last summer finishing out a TuffShed in my backyard with my neighbor. I think I made this plan soon after recording this video. It all happened quickly.
How much do the Dance Dance Revolution machines cost?? I was obsessed with this game in my younger years. Also i always wanted a neo-geo arcade machine.
I don't know exactly how much they are but I rarely see them in my area. They're probably not very cheap. They're also massive machines when you consider the dance floor and main cab.
I primarily find mine on Facebook Marketplace. My latest full sized cab was a Killer Instinct that someone who watches the channel offered to me. I'd just constantly search your area on Facebook or Craigslist and see what you find. Sometimes you find a deal.
MAME can come close to the real hardware but it's always slightly different. Most people won't notice much or complain. I'm a huge fan of Killer Instinct so I see where MAME is different fairly easily. When you sit the real machines next to MAME, you'll notice theres almost always a speed difference. I've only really done this with Killer Instinct. One of the biggest differences is how fast the game runs. When the real hardware and MAME are started at the same points and observed, you'll find the MAME version pulls ahead of the real hardware. You can see an example here in my Killer Instinct Arcade1Up review: ruclips.net/video/465NSM5k4No/видео.html I have observed speed differences in Rush the Rock on MAME vs the real hardware as well. My theory is, they can emulate the hardware but can't emulate or simulate "chug". What I mean by chug is the points where the original hardware gets bogged down by too much activity on screen at once or the CPU being worked too hard at one point. It's also possible the data transfer speeds of old hardware affected the original hardware where as emulation is running on modern hard drives or SSDs that can transfer the data far faster.
@@KillerArcadeGames thank you so much for the explanation. I hope to own a real arcade cabinet one day. I live in the uk and there hard to come by sometimes and seam to be more expensive 👍
In my opinion the best option to own for actually playing on is a multicade. Either a DIY (built from scratch or a kit), or a pre-built from one of the more boutique shops. That way you can get the benefits of new technology, a full size experience without the weight of an original cabinet (if you build a bartop with a podium you allmost get a real full size experience, and can still move it ourself), and a high quality build with good controls for not much more than the price of an Arcade1Up.
Lots of people have tried and said it just can’t. It runs so slow it’s unplayable. They always end up using console versions of the game. Older PCs can’t even run it. I use a Core i5 4570 to run it. There’s still an audio stutter occasionally with that CPU. Most Pi’s can’t even emulate Killer Instinct smoothly either.
Yeah I love the real thing but got my daughter a Pandora’s box and I love that thing connected to a monitor with speakers. I used to have rad mobile deluxe and I currently have X-men 4 player dedicated and missile command cabaret
The PC gives you the opportunity to emulate those mid 90s to early 2000's games. The Pi isn't powerful enough to emulate games like NFL Blitz. I've never really used a Pi though so there are probably some benefits over PC that I don't know of.
Cool video bro. Personally, I like to build them, because if i have one break on me, then i get to rebuild and repair, knowing all the parts and process' used to build them. I think I would be too angsty owning genuine arcade cabinets, the not knowing if i could fully repair them to original condition would be too stressful.
You build the cabinets and all? I wish I had wood working skills lol. I fully understand why you'd prefer that. I do have the thought of "Do I really want to put more hours on this aging hardware?" With my Arcade1Ups, I'll just turn them all on and maybe never play 2 of the 5 cabs in that room all day lol. I don't care much since I can replace all of the parts myself. With those full sized machines, I have them all on one power strip. I hesitate to turn them all on just to play one game. At the same time, I think: these were meant to be played. Not to be stored forever. I do believe it all should last a while once I get the monitors fixed up. They won't see anywhere near the use they did in arcades so I imagine they'll last a while longer without issues.
@@KillerArcadeGames yeah man, mostly pedestals, as they are just real easy to whip up and put together. But I get what you are saying, Its like driving a classic car, there is always a gremlin in the back of your head going "don't crash, don't crash, don't crash"
I never seen or played any arcade cabinets ever. I mean, i didn't saw them in person, like for real and not on someone's video. I found out about arcade games only when i got my first PC and found out about emulation. Until then, i knew only about consoles and PC games. And by console games i mean old 8 - 16 bit games, but only on two consoles like NES or Mega Drive and that's it. And i never even knew that, most of the arcade games was originally that, an arcade games. That they were not on consoles at first, or on PC. But when i found out about it back in, like, 2013 or so, i was little bit shocked. But yeah, i never played any game on real arcade cabinets, and for me, it is impossible to get, at least arcade1up cabinet because, in my country it will coast so much that you can brobably buy a freaking half of the country for those kind of money lol So yeah, playing arcade games for me is best with emulation. About kids: I don't have kids. Hell, i don't even have a girlfriend lol And in my opinion, these days it is better to live alone than just starting a relationships with someone, and then regret it. Also, having kids and family these days is way more expensive than buying real or arcade1up arcade cabinet. So yeah, i decided to screw it and stay alone. It is better to be alone or face the reality and waste your nerves and life to someone, who is probably with just for money and not because they like you the way you are. Also, back in the school and student days girls simply said NO to me all the time, no matter where i go and no matter how good i'am. And at first i was pissed of because of that. But now, looking on reality of things, i came to understanding that been single is not a bad idea. Other words: i rather give my trigger a workout by myself than stick him in to someone and pay the price that i didn't deserve, if you know what i mean.
Well, I got KI pro and the huge black box was on the grass by my house yesterday. It is heavy. But I had to get it inside in case it rained. I could have had my brother help me. It’s over 100 pounds. I didn’t want to miss out on it, and it looks better than the old KI 1up. It has the slanted Midway style deck like the MK 30th which is like the original arcade cabinet. It’s taller like T2 and Big Blue and a little wider. I have T2 assembled and got a Big Blue for under $200 on ebay but didn’t build it yet. KI is going next to T2 where I formerly had a Costco MK from ebay that I tried to turn into a Moonwalker and I botched the side graphics. Side graphics are a real pain to apply, you have to do a bit at a time and hope you have it lined up properly. I took apart the former MK to make room for KI pro. I didn’t start building it yet, I didn’t even open the box.
I now have 9 Arcade1up cabs. We use them maybe one or two nights a week. One thing I’m thinking about is adding weight into the cabs so they are not as easily to shake. Other than that, I am very happy with these cabs.
I noticed with RidgeRacer when my wife was playing the game was shaking all over the place. I asked her to take it easy since these are not the real arcade controls. Since then, she has eased up. I do like RidgeRacer adding an extra board between the display and control deck. This made the game more immersive of a experience. Granted, RidgeRacer being a driving game, so the control deck itself is angled and that’s why they did it. However on the Tron cabinet they inset the display deeper and put a changing LED strip between monitor and control deck. That definitely gives a much more immersive experience with both the led strip and the black light on the S Panel reflecting off the sides.
I was just thinking about setting up a 40ft container as my own little arcade... But I am off grid, I got a lot of solar, but the biggest problem with REAL hardware, CRTs use a lot of power!
I think the pcb boards are always sold out as people already took advantage or Arcade1up realized people can buy these boards rather than buying their arcades to make their own. I had a street fighter 2 arcade (gen1) which I got screwed and was broken out of the box. Arcade1up did say they normally wouldn’t warranty it but they did send me a new pcb, which is expected tomorrow. I did ask if I could get a modern pcb from the newer street fighter arcades but unfortunately they just said it doesn’t work with older gen 1 units.
I would say, the best investment I made next to a mint KI1 arcade machine for $450 was buying a umk3 cab and monitor, getting the jamma to vga converter. Using a groovy mame build. USB encoder with new buttons and sticks. I have every game at its native refresh rate and resolution. Literally cannot tell the difference between real hardware. The cab and monitor was $650 ish, the cheapo win7 computer with emucrt driver and video card was under $300. Definitely some setup trial and error with setting up groovymame resolutions. Totally worth it in every way. I ended up throwing away my Arcade1UP CRT mod cab lol
Thats a crazy good deal. So the graphics card was a special one to use with CRTs? I have a friend who just put a CRT into a cab and is running a MAME PC. We had to use a cheap converter from Amazon. It works but its not perfect.
@@KillerArcadeGames Yeah, converters arent gonna work. Mame has to output in the native res and refresh rate. The modlines and stuff have to be installed to the graphics card to output 15khz. He could try a superwide resolution of 1920x240 that should be a quick fix with native scanlines
When it arrives I'll have 3 arcade 1 ups. The first was street fighter and that one is a bit tore up. First those original LCDs are bad. One controller needs repair and the paint is coming off the control deck. I let my kids play that whenever. The next one is MVC and that one I got just because it's an amazing collectable. I'm the only one that plays that one to keep it pristine. Finally I have MVC2 on pre order. They are really just collectables for me. I've played the games a million times and already own them on Dreamcast and Xbox that I have hooked up to really nice CRTs. The only actual arcade cabinet that I might consider getting is a real MVC but I don't really have the room. I love SNK but I have my neo Geo and many games. I love the idea of a racing cab but I already have a pretty good sim rig and again with the space.
I’ve seen it done before. I don’t know how legal it is but if you have an arcade you’d probably know better than me. The only way to make it work would be to wire the start buttons to the card reader. The games are permanently set to free play.
Hi, Im from belgium and i am Looking for years now to buy a original cabine Arcade KI. Can someone help me how to find one ? This would be a dream for me Thanks Sam !
Im not sure where you could find one in Belgium. I bought one when someone offered it to me privately. But every other machine I’ve bought was by searching Facebook marketplace.
The best option for most people is probably somewhere in the middle, ie a full-size MAME machine. Very easy to service because it just uses PC parts and standard arcade controls. All the parts can be brand new, so very reliable, and you're not relying on vintage parts, or on a single company to supply you with anything if something breaks (very pertinent at the moment because it looks like Arcade 1UP are going out of business). Most importantly though, a full-size cabinet is the right size for an arcade machine. I respectfully disagree with what you said about the Arcade 1UP cabinets giving the full arcade experience. They are just too small. Arcade machines were sized to place everything at the right height for an average human being to use comfortably. Scale it down to 75%, and you break compatibility with the himan body. I couldn't believe my eyes the first time I saw one set up in a store. It was about the right size for my then-7 year old daughter, and it was on the optional riser too.
In almost all cases the CRT screen looks better than an LCD when playing these old games. The games typically ran at a very low resolution and LCDs aren't designed to make those low res games look good. I'm not 100% sure but I believe theres less visual lag on a CRT as well. Since this video, I've bought 4 more full sized machines and I greatly prefer the CRT. One of the machines I bought had a CRT that I wasn't interested in saving, at least not for that cabinet. I put an LCD TV in it with a video converter and it looks decent but admittedly worse than it would have being on a CRT.
I personally do not care for emulators because in many cases LCDs do not support original arcade resolution your aspect ratios and looks might not be the same for example CPS games(384x224) and sound will also vary depending on the emulator. But that’s my preference.
I hear that. I’m looking for a donor Midway cabinet to run a CRT based emulation cabinet. Now that I have more of my favorite games in real machines, I need a non LCD machine to run everything else.
Wow, a TON has changed since I made this video. I now have a dedicated arcade space in my backyard and I picked up more full sized cabinets. I also can't stop searching for more, the arcade addiction is real! Links below!

I love the idea of getting a 1up and modding to my hearts content
My questions lie in what pc parts do you slap on em what mobo and cpu are they are they ddr3 or ddr4
What kinda fps fidelity increases did your mk2 and blitz mods bring those boxes compared to stock
Oh and what's the best aftermarket place to get mods for the 1up on
Can we oc the pc and ram on.the 1ups
Or even on a og can we hotrod the internals so everything is at max clock speeds
ATgames makes a great mulitgame cabinet
Dude i know you happy because you made me flashback to my arcade days with my friends 👍✌.
@@nerychristian stock games on the ATgames cabinet are pretty bad. Also the cabinets are pretty boring so you wouldnt really want more than one in a room.
THIS is the right attitude and perfect example of the audience and use case A1U serves.
Enjoy your cabs man! Sounds like you have an awesome arcade room. That’s what its all about. Gaming with mates - not always online but in person as we did back in the day🕹️😃🔥
Thanks for the shout out my guy!! Great video as always man!
Agreed. The prices are way too high now
How do you plug them up is it a regluar cord?
I guess they have deals from time to time. I just ordered one for my granddaughter. $699 on sale for $399 at Best Buy. Looks like they are all on sale. I would buy any of them around that price, but for sure hesitate at $699.
They really *do* feel and look like toys. The sales make sense. No one's buying them at the intended price needed to make enough profit. i still don't see $699 worth of anything in any of their setups.
Don't the originals exceed the thousands . I was looking years ago and got discouraged
Awesome!
Why would you ever do something so stupid? The difference in quality is obvious to all but the *bough.* (an' the bots.) xD
@@mikejonesnoreally Quality is one of about 50 factors.
15:40 it's best to upgrade CRT monitors to LCD, TNT amusement channel has help videos.
I do all I can to keep the CRTs since they actually look better on these old games. Two of my CRTs just went down in one night but we can fix them. Once I can't, I'll go LCD
@@KillerArcadeGames makes sense, more nostalgic too.
Nice vid Chris- the classic car analogy is pretty spot on, IMO!
I have over 15 arcades at my house. Getting them cheap and fixing them up is part of the fun. :)
Wow, that’s a heck of a collection!
You are so humble and simple guy really cool man I enjoy watching you keep it up thanks for the video.
Thank you for the nice comment!
Used to have a garage arcade and was awesome but space now I much prefer the 3/4 stuff. But...having two rush arcades hooked up in my garage for races was so cool.
Man, if I had someone else in the house who wanted to race I'd love having two! My wife kind of likes Hydro Thunder but rarely plays it haha.
I’m going there in week and a half for the first time! I’ll be doing a meet up for anyone in the area on 11/9 at 7 at the arcade.
I'm glad it was helpful!
Thank you for another cool video! Fist bump from Japan!
Wow, from Japan, I know we live in the internet age but that still surprises me lol! Thanks for watching!
I appreciate the car metaphor! Petition to see a video of you bear hugging the Arcade1Up down the stairs lol. Quite the setup you got my friend. I used to love going to the arcade as a kid. Didn't realize they could be so affordable these days.
If I have to hug the cab down the stairs I’ll record it haha. If you look around long enough you’ll find a good deal or two on arcades.
You have amazing taste in racing games dood!
Thanks!
Great video! Messing with RetroPie is what got me into arcade collecting. I wish I could afford a Killer Instinct PCB for my original KI cab. Trying to set up MAME/Retroarch to run in 15khz and trying to make everything look original has been a hell of a job!
I have both. I play my full size stuff way more then the 1up cabinets.
I think I’d be the same if mine were inside. I’ve gotta make the Shed-Cade a real thing this year lol
I agree 👍 I saw cruisin USA for 500 on marketplace and 1up wants 600+ for their mini replica toy arcade cabinets? Vending machines are built to last.
If you look long enough you'll find great deals. I got my Killer Instinct for $1300 which is incredible at today's prices.
I really enjoyed your brevity. Subscribed.
Thanks Teddy! I try to keep things tight on the channel.
Arcade1up failing the kid test is nothing personal lol, every time I check arcade displays in stores, the joystick top is removed or the artwork is torn out, good thing I waited for the Mvsx and had no problem letting my younger cousins play it, at least with the joystick panel.
Great Video KAG! I really enjoyed it!
Thanks Pdubs!
The car metaphor is spot on. I'm leaning towards getting real cabs. I want that authenticity. Gonna he a pain to get down the basement lol

The Arcade1Up cabinets are far easier to get, if you really don't mind which one you get, I'd say try those first.
For what a Arcade1up costs, think of the potential of emulating your own favourites
I’m sure someone hates I said Emulation, but I’m a huge fan. It’s unrealistic to peruse a rare game for unbelievable price points when, yeah emulation isn’t the real thing, but at least it’ll be playable
Another pro of Arcade 1up is there are several games on one machine.
@@KillerArcadeGames Isn't it possible to put in a MAME PC into your Arcade1Up cabinet?
.... it must be possible.
Where did you get that carnevil cabinet? Looks awesome! Can you provide a link on where to purchase one?
I made it by cutting the top off of an Arcade1Up, mounting a TV to it and putting a PC inside.
Crazy part is the Arcade1ups may last longer. giving that they are low maintenance..
What are your thought on the Extreme Home Arcade Megacade?
@@KillerArcadeGames
Well we can't say for sure how long the Arcade1ups will hold up since they have been in business for only 3 or 4 years I believe.
that said, I have an original Street Fighter Cabinet from 2018 that is still holding up just fine and it is played regularly.
Very nicely put together video and very entertaining as well. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks!
Thank you for your opinion. Helps
I'd a couple of 1ups and then some sort of Universal cab where I can purchase and download games (does this exist?)
It was fun! I was never much of a fan of those Jersey Jack pinball machines, I don't know why, maybe a bad experience with a machine that wasn't in good condition. But I was really interested in their new releases, apparently everyone else was too and I never found them empty haha.
One of my biggest cons for arcade 1up is if you want to reskin the cabinet artwork. That’s not cheap for what it is but it’s the cherry on top.
Yeah that’s quite expensive. All of my modded cabs have a fair bit of money in them at this point. A decent percentage of that money is from the art.
I agree. Have you seen the NFL Blitz? It is the worse I've seen as far as skin graphics. It is very grainy. Seems like for a NEW, RELEASED cabinet it would be the best if not better then the other prior released cabinets.
Check out my new back yard arcade, The Shed-Cade: ruclips.net/video/zZ6mhbpILvY/видео.html
Where can I find the O.G arcade machines at??? I’m planning to open up an arcade!
I find all of mine on Facebook Marketplace. You could go to auctions though. There’s arcade auctions in most major cities occasionally. There’s one in Dallas. There’s one online too, captains auctions. You have to get it shipped which makes it expensive.
I agree with everything you said 100%!👍
I love being able to buy/have my own arcade cabs, and not going broke in the process.
Thats not something I'd be interested in. It sounds great but the execution usually isn't something I enjoy.
Is unobtainium hard to obtain?
Can the buttons and stick be replaced with other generic ones? In the 1ups
Yes! I changed all of mine to Happ controls, MUCH better.
Are the circuit boards failing at a worrisome rate? Is it really a problem or just something you are saying can happen?
The classic car analogy is perfect.
Room , price and risk is why I don’t buy real cabs. But agree would rather real vs arcade1up
Great video.
@@KillerArcadeGames Would love to see a video on your arcade building.
I recorded this recently just showing the inside.

I spent last summer finishing out a TuffShed in my backyard with my neighbor. I think I made this plan soon after recording this video. It all happened quickly.
I do have 2 real arcade cabinets and it stick out for the past years. We had to build a cabinet to play one of them, and we had a blast.
How do you have the blitz cabinet already?
That's a cabinet I made out of an Arcade1Up. Its not the official cabinet.
@@KillerArcadeGames dope. Nice set up bro 👌
where do you buy the real ones from
I primarily find mine on Facebook Marketplace. My latest full sized cab was a Killer Instinct that someone who watches the channel offered to me. I'd just constantly search your area on Facebook or Craigslist and see what you find. Sometimes you find a deal.
Where do you get that Mortal Kombat 4 ?
That one is custom build. I bought it from someone who made it but didn't want it anymore.
I’ve got a mame setup with two pcs ready to go with rush on them. Would you say the mame version is the same is real hardware? Cheers
You can see an example here in my Killer Instinct Arcade1Up review: ruclips.net/video/465NSM5k4No/видео.html
I have observed speed differences in Rush the Rock on MAME vs the real hardware as well.
I’m curious, if you never used it how do you know it can’t play nfl blitz?
Lots of people have tried and said it just can’t. It runs so slow it’s unplayable. They always end up using console versions of the game. Older PCs can’t even run it. I use a Core i5 4570 to run it. There’s still an audio stutter occasionally with that CPU. Most Pi’s can’t even emulate Killer Instinct smoothly either.
Where do you find the real arcade cabinets?
Facebook Marketplace is where I find them primarily. I just search several times a day looking for a decent deal.
i want a hydro thunder so bad, i just got a rush cabinet 2 weeks ago and just upgraded it to rush the rock, absolutely love it!
I love my Hydro Thunder! I hope you can find one. I just got a third real cab, I'll be revealing it tomorrow on the channel.
Yeah I love the real thing but got my daughter a Pandora’s box and I love that thing connected to a monitor with speakers. I used to have rad mobile deluxe and I currently have X-men 4 player dedicated and missile command cabaret
Where can I find the shooting game and the NFL blitz they are not on the website
I made both of those out of other Arcade1Up cabinets. The shooter cabinet is just a Final Fight cabinet with the top cut off lol.
You are talented 👍
So you can make a nfl blitz cabinet
How does a pc differ from a raspberry pi? And which is better?
I had one dead pixel on my mortal kombat cabinet I sent a picture of it to arcade 1up and a week later i had a new monitor.
South-central Tx ?? Nice. Only downside is damn Cedar Fever.
I have noticed the newer A1U models shake around a lot more.
Great comment! Off gridders can be gamers too! And I was just thinking about a storage container arcade myself...great minds!
Maybe that's it. Its got to be frustrating for those who want a replacement but can never get one.
Great Video!😀
Can one add a card reader with the Arcade1Up Cabinets?
I’ve seen it done before. I don’t know how legal it is but if you have an arcade you’d probably know better than me. The only way to make it work would be to wire the start buttons to the card reader. The games are permanently set to free play.
Hi, Im from belgium and i am Looking for years now to buy a original cabine Arcade KI.
Can someone help me how to find one ?
This would be a dream for me
Thanks Sam !
What is the difference between arcade 1up screen and an actual arcade machine screen? Is there a difference In clarity or size?
In almost all cases the CRT screen looks better than an LCD when playing these old games. The games typically ran at a very low resolution and LCDs aren't designed to make those low res games look good. I'm not 100% sure but I believe theres less visual lag on a CRT as well. Since this video, I've bought 4 more full sized machines and I greatly prefer the CRT. One of the machines I bought had a CRT that I wasn't interested in saving, at least not for that cabinet. I put an LCD TV in it with a video converter and it looks decent but admittedly worse than it would have being on a CRT.
@@KillerArcadeGames just to clarify which one have crt? The actual real arcade machine or the arcade 1up machines?
The real machines have the CRT. Arcade1Up has LCD screens.
Thank you so much for the information, one last question, can I mod this with the new pandora DX?
I personally do not care for emulators because in many cases LCDs do not support original arcade resolution your aspect ratios and looks might not be the same for example CPS games(384x224) and sound will also vary depending on the emulator. But that’s my preference.
I hear that. I’m looking for a donor Midway cabinet to run a CRT based emulation cabinet. Now that I have more of my favorite games in real machines, I need a non LCD machine to run everything else.
