idk though, I get the humor, but even though voting seems to be a poor reason to shut out relatives... I think most Trumpers would shut out a "male" relative wearing makeup and women's clothing before the former would even occur, probably with the "Christian" versions of the same excuses. I get that he's not an authentic Zen teacher, but you can tell there's a whole lot of subtext here, even if it's certainly not zen. I'd even say a whole heck of a lot of things going on with that vlogger!!! I'm not sure why he is being brought up at all, Hardcore Zen is basically dignifying his vid by critiquing him.
Having recently gotten my nose into the Shobogenzo, it's a pleasure to see that Dogen's attitude of calling stupid people "stupid people" wasn't lost to time. Great video as always, respects from France.
Ram Das would always say... " Oh if you think you're so enlightened, go spend a few hours with your family". The problem is most people's solution to that problem is to avoid it but only through some friction and pain does growth actually occur. He did not mean the solution was to avoid his family, it was just a reminder that he had so long to go. Most people today think the answer to all their problems is to just avoid them. Good luck with that. Definitely don't ever ponder that you may be the wrong one, that could clearly never be fruitful!
Brad, I've enjoyed your videos for many years now. However, as a long time Zen practitioner (and soon priest), I think this is the first time I've actually been proud of you for taking such a strong stand on this. Thank you so much for being courageous enough to say what should be said despite the potential of harsh criticism. 🙏
@@Patrick33456 He's not afraid to shatter delusions and tell it like it is. Most people would be pandering in order to increase views or inflate their digital takuhatsu bowl. There's basically no one else out there in the zen world who does what he does. So, yeah, I can see how you could call this "courageous".
Filial piety is really big in Japanese Buddhism in general. Kukai famously made a place at Koyasan for his mother to live in so he could visit her regularly. Nichiren was also crazy about filial piety, with his parents being among his very first converts. He called the Lotus Sutra Buddhism's "classic of filial piety." On the Zen side of things, Suzuki Shosan heavily emphasized respect for one's parents, and actually extended this parental respect to one's feudal lord (he was a samurai, so that stuff came with the territory lol). Anyone advocating for going no-contact with their family over such petty reasons would have been seen as totally crazy by all of these people.
I miss the America when you could just vote, and then do about your day like nothing happened. The only people who you should go “no contact ever again” are those you know for sure to be sociopaths or psychopaths, or those in your family who have committed serious offences, or committed harm to you.
but... did you not see the makeup and female cloths? How many of his trans friends are Trumpers? Probably none. Also how are you supposed to know someone is a psychopath or sociopath if you were raised up by one(or two!)? Their behavior is likely to seem normal until you are away in a very different environment. If this was a monk from Asia, I'd say that's very bad Zen teaching. But, I think there are a lot of adult children out there for whom the Trump vote is the last straw, perhaps the moment of recognition "this person doesn't show compassion in any arena, not just politics but through my whole childhood, s/he's never showed compassion". There's no sure diagnosis of Psychopath, many psychiatrists have proposed it doesn't exist. So how is anyone supposed to know it "for sure"?
Thanks! I really appreciated this video and your advice. I'm currently in the middle of trying to decide whether to follow through with going "no contact" with some toxic family members (not because of Trump). I also especially needed a good laugh today. 😂 Keep doing what your doing man! The world definitely needs more reasonable voices, especially with all the chaos and idiots that are out there.

I'm sorry to hear that you only saw your dad a few times after you made up. I attempted to cut away from my family when I was younger, and even though I don't always agree with my small town conservative devoutly Christian family, you gotta love them. Screw the haters, if you're the only one saying something that you know to be true, it's all the more important to say it! Truth is a very worthwhile aim I think...
thanks for this . what ever happened to just being a person, with friends, family and colleagues - just living, sharing, engaging etc and not going no contact because you knew you are not the be all and end all? Some members ( too many ) of society are so self absorbed in their own self righteousness and entrenched ways of being they commit the very heinous acts they accuse others of. for the last 2 years or so I have intentionally looked at publications, opinion pieces and "scholarly" works from camps that I normally could not agree with . I have never looked back. I must look at and examine life from multiple views if I am truly to have compassion for myself and others. I am on a quest to have less and less judgment and more pragmatic compassion. it's challenging for me but absolutely necessary for my own development. I feel like I am alone in this so often. Ironically , your vid condemning this dude's practice of icing those who do not agree with him made me feel understood and also hypocritical.. LOL - I need more sitting time...
Phenomenologists like Edmund Husserl proposed the maxim: “From doxa to epistem!“ I still hold, it's good methodological advice for us, living in a “Three Cornered World“ (essay by Natsume Soseki; audio by the one and only Glenn Gould on RUclips, if I remember right).
In the Karaniya Metta Sutta sermon the Buddha tells us to regard all beings in the same way that a mother regards her child and to cultivate limitless goodwill for the entire cosmos. People not at peace with themselves will struggle to offer peace to others.

Is Zen really supposed to be for all people? Because it sure seems like few people are for Zen. Other forms of Mahayana Buddhism even seem more readily appealing and accessible than Zen, at least in their home countries

Keeping politics out of the temple or zendo is a worthy endeavour. Having a sangha that is a mixture of all types of people should mean all types of people feel welcome as it would be apparent that 'all are welcome'. In recent times I did have to tell a friend that I no longer wanted any contact. However this was nothing to do with politics but rather the need to set a boundary for my own well being following very upsetting situations and being vulnerable due to bereavement and illness.
The thing with going no contact is that even if the individuals you're dealing with might be incredibly toxic and you may not be entirely in the wrong for wanting to do that including with your family members however alot of people including people like the infamous Reverend Jim Jones used the whole thing of "You don't have to deal with these toxic crappy bad scumbags just come with me and my group and everything will be fine after that."As a means to manipulate and to be toxic towards people and even if you are gravitating towards a person who says just cut contact and come with me because the people you're currently with might be very toxic and this type of thing might seem like the right thing to do you could potentially be falling out of the frying pan and into the fire or potentially even into another frying pan.
Thank you, thank you, this creep is a menace who regularly tells his young audience to go 'no contact' and he'll be their family, idiot is too kind a word for him. I hope theres nothing even more harmful going on with him. And yes iknow he goes by they/them but in the case of cult leader type behaviour or any more potentially nefarious motivations, his sex is absolutely relevant whatever words he uses about himself to hide behind. Honestly mostly i give most people the benefit of the doubt but this person is trying to lead mostly young people astray, pied piper be warned. Thank you.
@@10DeeB yo the person you speak of is definitely wrong about Zen Buddhism but are you seriously stooping to a level of “I know their pronouns but they are so terrible I refuse to respect that?” Seriously weird

For that matter I don't use 'his/her royal highness' to refer to people who describe themselves as royal either, or 'your excellency' if I happened to run into a christian bishop so I'm agnostic on naming protocols while generally calling people what they want to be called.
I believe I just lost my sister of over 45 years to this no contact thing. She forced a conversation on to me which I wasn't comfortable having knowing her views. I just truly believe the way to heal this country will not be through cutting people off and isolating us further. While I do think that Donald Trump is in existential threat to our democracy I still do not think destroying relationships is the way to healing our country. What we need is compassion empathy and tolerance. And most of all the ability to listen to each other when we disagree. To find agreement in our disagreement where we can start to heal the damage within our relationships.
I found that we don't need to worry about others Zen practice, judging others practice is of course a path to reinforcing ones self just as judging ones own practice as good or bad, right or wrong is the epitome of what Dogen said " when the opposites arise the Buddha mind is gone " ultimately those just using Zen as an achievement are deluded and don't affect our own training at all. We should point out the foolishness of people pretending to have achieved something in Zen, who usually expose themselves anyway when you see it's all about them. " I am a great Zen teacher" is a sure sign someone isn't.
I’ve really struggled with communication with my family because they have strong beliefs like denying climate change, they speak in racist angry terms and generally challenge me to be loving and tolerant My tendency is to cancel them for a while until I feel ready to communicate again But it’s not easy Many times I want to cancel them forever but this helps Thanks
Looking on Jeff’s website, it seems that Jeff had a very troubled time of it. Suicide is mentioned in the about page. I can only guess, he’s received a lot of rejection for identifying as nonbinary and views Trump/MAGA supporters as an existential threat. But I can’t help thinking that Jeff’s public energies might be better spent as an LGBTetc. activist, and keeping Buddhism as a practice rather than teaching.
Totally agree. The author has their own story about what it means to be republican that's heavily driven by their own party's caricature of republicans. Not all republicans are devoid of compassion. They see the issues and threats differently. Some I agree with, most I don't (I'm a dem, my father's a republican) but I'm aware of how my views of the issues aren't shared by my father. Each party has simplified and committed to a narrative that seems so obvious to them and compels heinous conclusions about their opponents. But those conclusions only work if the opponents see the issues the same way: they don't. So the conclusion that they all lack compassion is faulty. But on top of that we have to ask whether lacking compassion would even be a good reason to cut off contact. Maybe if you're directly being abused, but as Buddhists, Mahayana especially, it's our job to help people. Compassion doesn't end because the other person isn't compassionate. The author's whole rationale is nonsensical and contradictory. Beyond that, the author sounds dangerous. Cutting contact with family is destructive and punitive and obviously driven by the author's political identity which is just a lot of thinking, confusing, and maybe the author's attempt at farming likes and adoration. It's also reminiscent of cult tactics. 👎
Probably not what you're thinking, but if memory serves, the "tap" in "tapas" as a kind of meditation refers to motherly love in a few different ways. Theoretically, one who feels bothered by familiar relations would at least be quickly unbothered by the fact that they were bothered if they had anything like the cruising attitude tapas and other routines can and do bring.
I'm skeptical this guy is a Zen Buddhist of any kind. Saying he's a precepted facilitator in the Soto Zen tradition sounds rather vague. What's his lineage, sangha, center, whatever?
It seems that modern genetics, starting with pioneers like G. Mendel, can explain many phenomena related to “hereditary transmission“ much better than most “old schools“. Some more “updating“ (because “temporae mutantur...“ it happens anyway) may be a good idea - if only to advance further on the way from “doxa“ to “episteme“, as Edmund Husserl (and other phenomenologists) put it.
I agree with what you're saying, but I have to ask: Why call them "he" if they explicitly ask to be called "they"? It seems like basic respect to do so. I understand it gets absurd when people insist on using dozens of different pronouns but using a single, third alternative like "they" makes sense (especially when criticizing someone).

Wikipedia says that Marsh is a social mefia presenter. He has a long history in entertainment and gender activism. At the end of the Wikipedia article it mentions he is a Buddhist since the 90’s. This person has no credibility as a spiritual teacher.
He can have an opinion or be an activist, but exclusion is not meant to be practiced in this way. Plus, he should not be teaching. From my perception, his videos are opinions. He's not a teacher. Plus, he needs to work on his practice. I talk with everyone - EVERYONE. Viva Ziggy!
Is it in some way inconsistent with your beliefs and practices to refer to a person by their preferred pronouns? I recall a video you'd made discussing how making accommodations for people in retreat settings can be problematic, and i appreciated that. I agree that our overuse of labels divides us into factions and can potentially move us further apart from another. We develop attachments to our personal 'brand' of ego. Whether that be nationality, religion, gender, ethnicity, or political persuasion. But I dont think its asking too much to refer to a person, even one you vociferously disagree with, by the pronouns they identify with. Or, if doing so would be inconsistent with your beliefs, why not refer to all people with they/them, and get beyond the gender label altogether?
Without one exception… until someone disagrees. One day we’ll all hike and drink beer together. 🍻 Dare I say, this person included. One day that is, but now is definitely not the time 🤦♂️
Wow, cheese. Actually seeing this weird guy (?) in a Brad Warner yt-clip reflexively makes me want to found something like the „Zen Buddhists for Trump“.
This is just another example of political obsession and extremism in America. People make politics their entire identity and draw lines in the sand over anything and everything as a result. It's real sad and seems like it's going to get worse before it gets better.
The fight to influence public opinion has been pushed to the extreme. It's become cultural control. It's your duty as a citizen to hate people guilty of wrong-think. Who would have thought, Land of the Free, and Blah-blah.
Being no-contact is an integral part of Buddhism. In Pali this is called 'viveka'....detachment. Check out the Rhinoceros discourse in the Dhammapada. One whose mind is enmeshed in sympathy for friends and companions, neglects the true goal. Seeing this danger in intimacy, wander alone like a rhinoceros. Like spreading bamboo, entwined, is concern for offspring and spouses. Like a bamboo sprout, un-entangling, wander alone like a rhinoceros. As a deer in the wilds, unfettered, goes for forage wherever it wants: the wise person, valuing freedom, wanders alone like a rhinoceros.

How is he going to feel when he finds out that there is no ultimately real separation from anything in existence, much less his family? Oh wait, I know the answer to that one from personal experience. It's not fun. Seeing yourself as just another genetic iteration of the same old dysfunction includes a lot more feelings of stuff like self-blame than you'd think, and if you're really honest about the scope of it, it takes a lot more than just going no contact to really fix. I know I suck at it, so good luck to him. Honestly.
Oh, but I forget. Everything that is wrong now would be ok if there were no Trump. He's not emblematic of our society's problem. Despite all appearances to the contrary, he's some kind of Machiavellian mastermind. Or a puppet. Or a savior. Anything but just a product of his time and place like the rest of us
Not really gonna get into the "precepted facilitator" or the advice to go no-contact on anyone, just some thought on how we can take the Buddha's teachings into account on the issue of voting. He didn't engage in politics directly, but he did talk to kings and rulers about ethical governance (e.g. Dasa Raja Dharma, the Ten Duties of a King). I think it can be argued that these teachings can be applied to voters of today as wielders of power, however great or minute it may be or seem.
Interesting. Maybe he talks more about his Zen training/practice in his book which I am not going to read. Personally I think performance art, theater and need to be seen as a media personality is their main purpose. I don't feel it is Zen practice in all seriousness. There are Trans Zen practitioners who I know and they are not on to Tik Tok etc. There is this thing of being a professional Zen Buddhist to put on a bio or resume. I've see that. But it is usually with the reference to their teacher, or their Sangha. I don't think it is Jeffrey Marsh's gender fluidity that turns people off. Rather the fact that he is promoting himself as a savior of others who are gender fluid. I believe he mixes up that saviorism from Christianity (his mother was a preacher). It's not his non binary choices that are upsetting, it's his cultishness that is. Attaching Zen Buddhism to it is a lie and maybe he should do some Fusatsu. I have never heard of a precepts facilitator in all my years of practice nor have I heard any of the teachers I know mention it that way. It is a gimmick and that is not genuine. It breaks all the precepts because you can't have one broken without the other.
Hi Brad, I've been watching your videos for a while now and this one was so disappointing to watch :( I've read posts on your website and you had previously said "There is no need to conform to gender stereotypes", yet you berate this person for the choices they have made (While not using their correct pronouns) and heart comments that are critical of their appearance because they are non binary. Your voice carries influence, why are you using it to spread animosity?
Marsh is a not to be trusted, he encourages young people to trust him and he will be their friend and help them with their sexuality 😳 Serious creepy vibes.
I can understand hating Trump, and cringing at Harris. But as we know, hate or cringing is only going to make it harder to do what’s right. We shouldn’t be cultivating hate or fear of political leaders. We may have it but shouldn’t be cultivating it.
But Brad if you don't put a bunch of made up titles in your bio we won't know how cool and enlightened you are! Personally, the whole "no contact" thing seems really dramatic to me. Like, just don't talk to them if you don't want to? Or only talk about certain issues with them? No need to make a whole "thing" of it. Also I'm imagining Dogen getting a Tick Tock and every video is just him quietly sitting zazen.
This is Jeffrey Marsh. If you google him you don't find any specifics about his zen training except "studied several years at a Zen Monastery in California" it might all be fiction, So you might be off the hook with any affiliation ;)
My family members will be future Buddhas way, way off. For me it’s easier to understand them as arhats of closer future Buddhas who are teaching (skilful catalysing) through them.
I get why you're angry, but I still like to think that Jeffrey sincerely thinks they are doing the right thing. I doubt that Jeffrey did a lot of zazen, otherwise they wouldn't be so clear on something so obviously stupid. But hey, stupidity is also just an expression of life. Someone should talk to Jeffrey. Maybe there's hope.
Okay, I should have done some research before writing. Jeffrey is a professional internet content whatever, an describes their parents as "My biggest fans". I imagined some bedroom tictocer, with a troubled family life and an outcast biography. Seems I was wrong... Well whatever, I start to lose interest in this matter. Have a nice day, Brad!
OTOH, maybe it's not good advice for everyone, but for trans/non-binary people like him? I think it's good advice, just not for the reasons he describes. I'm not sure who is audience is, or even if he knows who his audience is, but overall, if you are a man wearing makeup and women's clothing, yeah, staying away from Trumpers is not a bad idea. Of all the vloggers out there you could have critiqued...,
I have to wonder in what sense you can practice Zen Buddhism for twenty years and be so unbalanced? Cutting people off is a very cruel thing to do. I don’t think anyone should do it so lightly.
Brad is doing the very same though right here in these comments and the video itself. He’s being very open he gives zero fucks about trans/enby folx and goes out of his way to proclaim he’s above respecting them. (He’s also an author that seems unaware of they/them pronouns existing in writing for ages. Myself and other trans/enby folx and allies have asked him to explain some of his positions and instead of you know being a Buddhist teacher he kicks “the kids” asking questions in class out instead of acting like an adult. Claiming trans folks have nothing to fear from Trump is about the most asinine statement I’ve heard about what Trump/MAGA/Project 2025 have already shown the world and saying it’s “fantasy”. Just 100% oblivious to people suffering in the world because he’s blaming the victims and spreading hate.
I had one close friend ghost me because I didn't accept her Qanon theories about Trump. It's a pity really as she was otherwise a good friend until she drank the koolaid.
I had a similar experience with a friend as well. It was because I did not share her TDS and enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton. I have no use for either Trump, Clinton or whoever his “opponent” might be.
Funny how people will choose a hill to die on so easily. I’m glad we don’t have the level of political insanity that you seem to have in the US but I lost friends over the whole Brexit thing for the same reason, it was pretty clear to me at the time that the whole thing was being orchestrated by someone with malign intentions but people jumped on that bandwagon like it was the last train out of town and had nothing but vitriol for anybody who didn’t joint them.
Going no contact over a single vote is probably a mistake. Most of our parents have no more political power than we do. Is it really worth sacrificing a lifelong relationship over a simple "wrong" opinion? I would assume that for most people going through with such terrible advice it's not just about the vote but rather the totality of the relationship. The straw that broke the proverbial camel's back, etc.
Hey Brad, Jeffrey Marsh is nonbinary and goes by They/Them. Just read the very bio you post. It's all there. I don't personally resonate with J's advice, but, Brad, if you didn't so disdainfully refer to them as "this guy" I wouldn't be wondering if you have another agenda going on (and judging from some of your other videos, safe money says you do). Also, Brad, there's something you need to know: If Trump is elected, you'll be fine. You can drive across America and make 20 minute videos of every brain fart you have in the US state of your choice and not worry about a thing. If Trump is elected, Jeffrey Marsh has lots of reason to fear and will be even less safe than they already are in much of the US. And, Brad, I'm not sure if you've picked up on this, but the right wing is not teaching parents to be terrified of Brad "Senior Citizen White Guy from Ohio" Warner. Brad Warner is not being demonized as a threat to all that's most Christian about the USofA. Not so the case with tens of thousands of nonbinary/trans people--or, as you call them, "those guys". So, Brad, when Jeffry Marsh confronts Trump supporting relatives, those are folks who support policies that will oppress and threaten Jeffry. When Brad "I'm speaking truth to woke power!" Warner confronts Trump supporting relatives, you just chuckle and walk away and spend the next 8 hours recording a Monkees cover. Then, of course, you'll make a 20 minute video on Rupert Spira based on 5 minute video of his.
Jeffery Marsh has nothing at all to fear from Trump. That's just an absurd fantasy created by marketing people and grifters intent on spreading fear. And I don't have any interest in his pronouns. No one gets to choose what other people will call him. I also don't care about your "safe money" suppositions, which are entirely wrong, by the way. You don't have to watch my videos.

idk though, I get the humor, but even though voting seems to be a poor reason to shut out relatives...
Filial piety is really big in Japanese Buddhism in general. Kukai famously made a place at Koyasan for his mother to live in so he could visit her regularly. Nichiren was also crazy about filial piety, with his parents being among his very first converts. He called the Lotus Sutra Buddhism's "classic of filial piety."
On the Zen side of things, Suzuki Shosan heavily emphasized respect for one's parents, and actually extended this parental respect to one's feudal lord (he was a samurai, so that stuff came with the territory lol).
Yeah...
but... did you not see the makeup and female cloths?

thanks for this . what ever happened to just being a person, with friends, family and colleagues - just living, sharing, engaging etc and not going no contact because you knew you are not the be all and end all?

Good stuff thank you

Because he is not a "they."

I mean ... Brad likes Godzilla, so I understand what he may appreciate about Trump, but I certainly am not here for political gossip.
@@HardcoreZen >>And I don't have any interest in his pronouns. No one gets to choose what other people will call him.
@@HardcoreZen”nothing to fear from Trump? Bahahahaha you obviously pay zero attention to how trans folx are treated in the world Brad. Heard of project 2025? You know the white xtian nationalists/trumps 900 page plan that literally speaks of throwing trans folx in prison because we are “pornography” and “sexualizing children” simply by existing. I realize you are not paying attention but Jewish Historians are. They literally are saying the rhetoric surrounding trans people RN is the same as it was for the Jewish people right before the holocaust. Do better dude
@@davidzootyo wanna bet $5 that Brad will call his newly married female friends by their new last name no issue. Brad just hates on trans folx because he doesn’t care to learn about what’s happening to one of the largest minorities that the entire world is hating on RN. That’s why he says we have nothing to worry about from Trump 😂

Brad would never read this but if he did he might realize he’s being really. Hateful to someone recognized as one of the largest internet antibullly’s and an activist. He’s successful but Brad Hates Jeffry referring to himself being Buddhist so just adds a bunch of ad hominem attacks so we all really know how Brad feels. Congrats on bullying someone that’s celebrated for taking on assholes like yourself for a living. Jeffry might not have zen down in the way you want Brad but they definitely are doing a lot more good in the world right now than you are. Isn’t the goal of Buddhism to reduce suffering? Pretty sure you’re blatant transphobia, mocking someone’s preferred pronouns, and watching people say shit like “don’t know if they are a predator but let’s assume the creep is” comments that you heart or ignore is literally adding suffering to the world you’re just too wrapped up in not giving a shit about anyone but yourself.
I am one who actually remembers that place before birth and drawing towards the mother. Knew it since childhood before hearing anything about the idea in Buddhism or Hinduism. And definitely that was one of my questions.. who chooses.. and so on.. based on this remembrance. When i met Ramesh one of the first things he said was you didnt choose your parents and so on.. Well, thats true.. as the Self i do nothing.. but as a jiva one apparently acts and chooses, but its not like i could of had different parents.. so its not choice in that sense.. the jiva got what it deserved and what served best.
@@michaelmcclure3383 Interesting. I have no such memories. Do you mean Ramesh Balsekar?
@@HardcoreZen yes, Ramesh Balsekar. I know it's odd, but it's interesting that it's there in the scripters as you mentioned.
Absolutely.
Going "no contact" for anything but the most serious of reasons is definitely bad advice.
Severe regret is bound to occur sooner or later.
Damn Brad, all I can really say is thanks for being you!!! And thanks for sharing!! Much respect to you sir!!
I can't believe I'm actually seeing this guy again -- I didn't think I would and even hoped I would never see him again. He actually went kind of viral on twitter some time ago because he made some video directed at younger viewers on how to/why they should hide certain things from their parents in regards to gender identity. Considering that, I'm not surprised to hear him telling people to go no-contact if they have family that support Trump -- all of his predatory/isolating behavior does have the stench of a wannabe cult leader, Have to say I am also surprised to see that it seems he's more than just a little involved in Buddhism
“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” - Voltaire
I don’t think Voltaire was cancelling his family now do you ? Cheers Brad good points well made sir
The Alaya?
If I shunned people over differences of opinion, I'd be all alone in the world. This guy is sadly typical of the cultish behavior of a political strain that trumpets kindness and tolerance but shuns you if you fail their ideological purity test. How anyone would think this is how Buddhist compassion should work is beyond me.
One of the things we all need to come to understand is that there's an canyon of difference between the moral disagreements that actually affect how we treat each other, and the ones that concern big matters that we have barely any control or effect on.
Why so mad? Not sure if it's ironic, but it seems that you're pissed because a self serving grifter is spouting harmful nonsense about something you believe in and care deeply about.
Congrats Brad. I’ve realized your little channel is not really a trans/non binary safe place that’s full of forced disrespect of an enby person because yall don’t like their obviously shitty Zen beliefs. It’s okay to dislike them for that but to actively disrespect other aspects of of their person unrelated to the zen stuff is very weird. As a self proclaimed punk I’d assume you would understand a bit about trans/enby folx but this entire mess has simply proven you’re oblivious or misgendering a person purposely. Do better man.
I won't call a single (and obviously male) person by a plural pronoun. I make no effort at all to provide any type of "safe space" here. The entire concept of "safe spaces" is ridiculous and harmful. The real world is not a "safe space."

@@HardcoreZen obviously male yet their bio describes they are non binary and use they/them? You’re showing a blatant disregard for trans/non binary people and that’s enough for me to remove you from my life. I’ve read your books and always came to your channel as an amazing place to learn and grow but your bigoted uneducated opinions of trans/enby people are massively problematic. If you have some reference where Buddha is as shitty to other humans as you are being please do educate us all.
@@HardcoreZen also you are resorting to ad hominem attacks on the person you speak of in the r video. You have a legit reason to despise them (their fake zen claims) but you choose to also hate on an irrelevant human trait of theirs completely unrelated to why you’re upset. Thats ridiculous and literally harmful. Siding with all your new pals that jumped on your bandwagon because you’re hateful towards something you don’t understand is not very Buddha like at all.
Every punk I know would oust you as a bigot based on your “obviously male” quote alone. Your next book should be called conservative zen: a guide to being a fake punk zen master
@@HardcoreZen have you checked out their junk to confirm your “obviously” male statement? I have an uncle that’s intersex so I think your gender assessment blows buddy.
Isn’t your whole thing not giving people psychological counsel? Not “saving” people? Why then should your viewer base have any interest whatsoever in your opinion on the topic above?
@@troyalanmusic6292 You’d have to ask them.
I like to think my spiritual practice leads away from drama like this
“What Paul says about Peter tells us more about Paul than about Peter”- Spinoza. The video poster hereby criticized likely suffers because of family issues due to their sexuality/ identity etc. I hope they practice harder and learn to digest their karma instead of spreading it. There may be a possibility however that they were victims of intolerable hate from within their family. You are correct in what you say about minor differences such as politics being easily put up with especially in Confucian influenced cultures like Japan.
I don't know. This Zen dude is pretty annoying. But I'd say the worst one I've seen so far is that psycho Israeli one that received Dharma transmission from Gudo Wafu Nishijima.
Think this issue is very linked to the 'anywheres' v 'somehweres' and the ris eof the internet so people can actually escape the physical situation they're in by finding their 'tribe' online etc, living in the bubble of their own making and not having to deal with people as they really are. Why help your next door neighbour when you can be protesting about palestine?
Related to Jack Haubner's video on practicing alone, your family, or the people you xcome across day to day are your practice but very much appreciate your idea here that family are your karma.
The rise of woke Buddhism in America… is it due to the disproportionate influence of women over the movement?? 😂 gotta ask the the serious questions
Yes...and also the chemical contamination of the human endocrine system.
The whole shaming and gaslighting tactics for not supporting either party is ridiculous and it gets worse evey time there is a Presidential election.
When the monk is showing the finger... 😊
Brad, I’m glad to have found a teacher with similar views as you on woke culture having no place in Buddhism. He spins it as if you think the other side is truly delusional then you should want them at the sangha. Sanghas are for seeing the delusion for what it is. How else are you going to have compassion for suffering.
Yeesh what is that thing?
Does it surprise you that assholes come in all shapes and sizes?
He should shave..
You mean they should shave?
@hardcorezen why did you even heart this? You have more facial hair than this non binary person. It’s funny yall didn’t hate on them for the make up. Despite their shit zen views and beliefs they are still a human being that deserves basic respect. I hope you enjoy the influx of people that want trans folx dead on your RUclips patting your back for hating on a non binary/trans person. I don’t think you did this intentionally but it’s odd.
