I think the creator of Cosy Cardio got it absolutely right. The programme wanted to go with a skinnier, more socially acceptable version of an influencer. I think that sucks.

I mean, perhaps but I think why they used so much footage of the other woman is because she was there in person. They were able to do an in-person interview (always gets better priority over zoom interviews) as well a film all the B-roll they needed for the segment. Using the other woman's footage (which they did use some of) would require that they use different formatting than the wide-screen footage they prefer and is more engaging and high quality.

I love the idea of cozy cardio. My energy levels have been so freaking low and this seems like a really great way to reintroduce exercise back into my routine.
As far as the drama goes, this is definitely down to the network. There are few things that happened here. 1) I think they were under the impression that cozy cardio was a movement and didn't realize it was also a brand. 2) I'm assuming that the Today's show viewership is mostly retirees and stay at home moms. The woman they focused on was likely chosen because she's more relatable/marketable to their viewers. I really doubt she was attempting to become the face of Cozy Cardio. More likely she saw an opportunity to market her own brand and the network just combined the two under the same story. It's the network that should be apologizing directly for misrepresenting what cozy cardio is who started it.

I don use tiktok so i had no idea that this drama is a thing till i got on youtube and found out that the creator IS the original at least to popularize this trend.

I love this! Walking is so underrated. I lost 32 pounds last year tracking my calories, taking regular long walks, and going to yoga classes. I’m now maintaining at a healthy weight. I first got myself to start taking walks by finding a nice trail 5 minutes from my house and listening to a good RUclips video or audiobook. Now, I mostly designate my doom scrolling time to while I take walks. I used to be super sedentary and lay around all day watching stuff or scrolling. Now I do the same stuff, but while walking. Similar idea to her, but I love that she made it to where she doesn’t even need to leave the house! I may have to get a walking pad for next winter. It was hard getting myself to the gym instead of the trail when it got too cold out.

I think the creator of cozy cardio is partially correct. They prob wanted to go with one that fits the "standard" they like to show. However, as someone in the entertainment industry (not huge, I just know some stuff, heard some stuff, experienced some stuff, etc.,) it can very well be that the one they featured may have had more connections to the Today show than the original creator. It could've been a mix of the standard being peddled AND the "it's who you know" aspect of media. She fits the target demographics too as a mom, so all of that could've been why they decided to feature her more prominently. Someone mentioned it could've been they called cozy cardio's creator in to prevent cozy sculpt being seen as a copy. That's also a huge possibility too.

I agree that this girl created a vibe, gave it a name and popularized it, then the media did something crappy by allocating it to someone more 'PR'able instead of giving credit, but I also kind of have to play devil's advocate here and ask why are we promoting this anyway? It feels like a fluff piece the news just used as filler and never intended it to be a big deal and as much as it's great to spread the word about your exercise options, this isn't brandable content. I've been walking on the treadmill/lifting weights at home while binging reality TV in sweats for years and just called it 'working out at home'. After almost everyone was forced to do this during the pandemic, do we really need to brand something and create buzzwords over something so common place? If she builds off of it to create more of a business under the name cozy cardio, then that's great, but just branding walking on a treadmill at home and doing nothing else with it besides asking for credit is slightly ostentatious in my opinion.

I wouldn't call Megan Roup an "influencer." She's a celebrity trainer with a huge following and Tracy Anderson thinks she's a big enough threat that she's sued her for "copying" her exercises. I wouldn't be surprised if she had been brought in as a fitness "expert" on other shows

Honestly, I’ve seen people in walking pads all over IG, but didn’t know it was called “cozy cardio.” (I’m not on TikTok). If the influencing is coining these workouts on her app as “Cozy Sculpt”, it’s not the same as “Cozy Cardio”, in that she also appears to be incorporating strength exercises, which could’ve been one of the reasons why Today decided to focus more so on her approach to the trend. Regarding contacting Hope, it might’ve been a nice gesture, but she’s certainly not obligated to. Frankly, ‘cosy cardio’ has been around for a very long time, it’s just the first time that it’s likely trended on social media.

Devils advocate but It kind of makes sense why they went with an interview with the second person. The primary demographic of someone who would watch the today show are white, stay at home, suburban moms. They introduced the history of how the cozy cardio trend started and then portrayed how this viral trend can be beneficial in “your” life! (* cue in white stay at home mom) it wasn’t crediting the second person to creating or popularizing the trend but rather a creative take on introducing a viral trend to a demographic from a person who is more relatable ( mom, family oriented, stay at home etc). Single millenials, gen z, young professionals, career focused individuals are not watching the today show

This was absolutely set up by the influencer's marketing team to promote her product. The original creator is there is so they can say they technically credited her. I'm not saying weight or appearance has nothing to do with it and its still scummy imo, but i don't think this segment was put together because a reporter at the network wanted to tell people about cozy cardio. It was set up to sell the influencer's products.

It's TV. Producers don't do their homework. They probably just took a bigger youtuber - easiest to find. Also there is size bias big-time in exercise promos. It should be the opposite, right? They always feature an aspirational person. This woman has a nice house, kids, is pretty.I feel bad for the original creator.

I can understand the concept of people stealing your ideas and benefitting from them and not giving proper credit and all that. What I'm struggling with is how can you trademark something like Cozy Cardio? Isn't it just the concept of walking while you watch TV? It sounds like something people have already been doing for decades with a trendy new name on it. I mean no disrespect to her I just genuinely don't follow.

While she doesn't own the word "cozy", the other girl acting as the face of the brand while peddling her own brand with an almost identical name seems like copyright infringement or ip theft. It's like, since the brands are so similar, she's posing as a business partner or something to capitalize on it, essentially stealing it from the other girl. I kinda do feel like the weight has a big part of it on the today show part. They didn't want "bigger people" to be the face of a movement they're peddling as people might not think it works

  • @maloyo7901

I'd never heard of Cozy Cardio until a video I watched before I saw this one(I am not a Tiktok user at all). I don't have any problem with the concept; whatever works for any given individual works for me. However, when you said that maybe Today didn't want to fly Hope to their studios so they chose Zoom, that is BS. There are NBC affiliates all over the country; I'm sure there is one within driving distance of wherever she lives, they could have found a crew to film her. I truly think NBC/Today just wanted to feature the "Buff Mom" type.

While it seems like a good idea on paper, usually if you’re having fun then what you’re doing isn’t “working”. I FINALLY lost 70+lbs last year after a decade of obesity.. but it wasn’t until I accepted the idea that real exercise just sucks and I had to do it despite that. Like a job you don’t like but you do it for the paycheck. I realized this sucky thing is just what I have to do in order to regain my health. I exercised hard, hated every minute of it, but went from an XL to an XS by August and have maintained since then because my dietary changes were healthy and maintainable, and nowadays I only exercise if I start feeling too blobby or whatever.
The idea that I had to love exercise, or at least enjoy it, meant I wasn’t doing anything truly effective for years. The real stuff, that really gets results.. it sucks lol
But it’s also true that any movement is better than no movement!

She either paid for the advertising, or she knows someone running the show. Either way, it's intellectual property theft. I hope cozy cardio has a trademark because she would have a case for 'cozy sculpt' appropriating the 'cozy cardio' brand. I'm assuming there's not something in the Today show contract that nullifies that, but then again, with the MSM, they might just sneak that in to the terms. She should check her contract, and if nothing is mentioned, consult a lawyer.

I think, at the start, it made sense to feature the woman more because she was being followed around by cameras, and that's much more compelling to watch than a Zoom call, but why didn't they just send a camera crew out to Cozy Cardio? Maybe they thought a mother was more relatable for their viewership or something? Still, I didn't think it was too bad until she started peddling her own product at the end, which is completely derivative of Cozy Cardio. Like... wtf.

Oh, we all know why they used that other lady for the tv segment. She "fits" the stereotype they want to promote. And one of the main reasons why I no longer watch morning shows. They are completely out of touch with the average American woman. They do this with most lifestyle segments regarding women.
