    I have watched and rewatched this so many times! I absolutely love the look of this, but I feel like a complete dunce. I think I’m missing something. As I get 3 or 4 rows into the hdc I keep noticing that the side with the slip stitch to join is looking s bit wonky and gaining length so it is rather boat like looking. I agree the video is extremely easy to follow, but what in the world is going on with mine I wonder? The video says to keep doing the sc or hdc into “each stitch” which by rewinding the video appears to be in the slip stitch in each row as well. Isn’t this adding a stitch per row? I hope this made sense to someone and can help me figure this out. Thanks if there’s an answer 💕

    • @cassmera6903
      @cassmera6903 Год назад +12

      OMG Thank you. I have done, redone, re-redone, and am on my 5th attempt, and at about the 5th or 6th row I have a taco/boat...WTF??? Am I stupid or something? I did notice I was using Acrylic yarn and not cotton. I thought I was adding stitches, so counted and marked, and re-counted. Nope, still the correct number (I hope), she never mentions just how many stitches in a row you're supposed to have. I am so frustrated I want to cry. I've been crocheting afghans all my life and never have had this problem. Granted this is my first "small" project with yarn(I usually use thread/floss) so ANY missed/dropped/added stitch shows by volumes. I can only guess that my yarn choice is the muckity muck up I'm doing, will try cotton or a cord instead of acrylic yarn. I guess ignorance is not bliss. LOL.

    • @lorinicholson5837
      @lorinicholson5837 Год назад +6

      @@cassmera6903 I thought I was going mad!!! So, I never got feedback since I posted that comment, but on a whim I figured… it keeps not turning out so why not try things hit or miss myself 😂😂. I did it by NOT going into the stitch that was their slip stitch… even though it clearly looked that it was going into it. I counted every round and always made sure I had the same number of stitches and marked my first stitch each time. It worked consistently that the slip stitch was always after the correct number of stitches in the round. It kind of rotates itself around as you go… which in turn… makes that line that one of the commenters commented on. I’m not an expert but I think you should at least get the same look with acrylic yarn, maybe just stretchier than cotton. I wish I could post a pic of it turning out after I did it. Thank you for commenting and I hope this made sense and it works out for you!!!!!

    • @lorinicholson5837
      @lorinicholson5837 Год назад +2

      @@cassmera6903 It did not open enough to see that you did the counting thing when I replied. I apologize. My counting was 16 chains on the foundation. So between top and bottom I had 32 and then the extra 2 stitches a piece for the corners cuz she said 3 per corner, (but the 1st of the 3 would’ve been my “foundation number”) made 36 for me. You are way more experienced than me for sure. I always counted 16, 2, 3 and then started over for the bottom half 16,2,3 then slip stitch 😂😂

      " I did it by NOT going into the stitch that was their slip stitch… even though it clearly looked that it was going into it " This was my issue now that I read your comment! I was doing my hdc into my slip stitches cause it looked like she was doing that.

    For those whose bag became boat-shaped, here's what to do:
    - When you start making the first row of hdc, skip the first stitch and start working from the second stitch (shout out to Chenda DIY for this amazing tip).
    - Chain doesn't count as a stitch, so always count you stitches after every row.

It's very nice acrylic yarn, but when I got to the strap, I realized that it has way too much "give" to it and cotton or some type of corded yarn would have worked better. Regardless, it turned out nice and I'll be making another one, although not with acrylic. Again, very nice work.
