Why Buy A New Tesla Model Y When You Can Get A Used Ludicrous Model X Instead?

- Buying a used P100D Ludicrous Tesla Model X is the way to go over a new Model Y. The falcon doors, air suspension, insane 0-60 times are justification enough! In this video I give you a rundown of a used 2018 Model X.
#tesla #cars
couple reasons: outdated: can't use phone as key fob (must use keyfob, keycards dont work), before 2020 X's have issues with control arm, half shaft, falcon wing doors etc etc. MCU is slow due to slower processor. If you like the gullwings and faster car, and space, then go for the X. PS: Tires cost alot more and wear a lot faster due to performance, tire size and X weight
$60K for a 5 year old car, even if it used to cost $150 K back in 2018 is not that great of a deal. I’d go with my 2023 MY even in a sea of other MY. It just means that it’s a great car for its value.
I am happy to own brand new 2023 Y long range rather than old X. I waited 50 days to get my Y on april 21.
I like having the screen horizontal as playing videos on there gives you more screen to work with vs the vertical one in the used Model S/X. But if you can find a used one, they can probably be a good deal too. Just be prepared to spend more money to fix stuff if something does go wrong, and tires will cost more to replace due to their larger sizes.
I had this exact quandry and ended up getting a 2019 model X. It cost me $15K more than a new Y, and has warranty until end of 2028.
Really happy with my choice - no issues with fit / finish or quality and it just feels far more "executive" than the 3 or Y.
In Australia the X is very rare as no longer sold here... I hate to sound superficial but every uber / hire car is a 3 or Y.
I seriously considered this option but I realized a brand new MY would cost $45k after the tax credit. I would lose 50% value or $22.5k in 5 years, while a 2018 MX at $60k would lose at least another 50% or $30k in 5 years. MY still comes out winner😂
Depends on the market.. can't find many real nice older X's at the right price. Maybe United States has a bigger market and better deals.
Having driven both, I totally agree with this video. Also Air Suspenion is a HUGE advantage
Huge cost when it breaks though.
In my experience owning other luxury cars with air suspension, the costs associated really weren't much more than coil springs systems.
Key components are
Air struts
Height sensor
Electric controller
Compresser
Mostly, the air struts will wear out and be replaced. It is 50% to 100% more cost compared to the non air. So, to each his own. But don't categorically rule it out due to costs. The advantages are significant as well
You can get a new Model Y for $46K and that's before the rebate of $7,500. The Model X looks great, but a 2018 is already 5 years old. I'd rather get the Model Y.
my friend 2015 model X front motor failed last year (mileage 60k km), fortunately still under the 8 y powertrain guarantee. Had it failed later this year the cost would have been to him. Curious to see how these doors will work when the car will be 12 years old and more.
I strongly believe Tesla should put more emphasis on reliability rather than acceleration (which is kind of useless when it drops below 5 sec to 60 mph).
Model Y’s are built better. At least the newer ones are. Rented a Model X while in Vegas. The amount of rattles and fit and finish issues I found compared to my 2023 Model Y Performance was crazy. It’s a $100K car brand new. I really thought about getting an X for my wife since I thought it’d be more comfortable for her and so far we love the experience of owning the Model Y. But having driven and ridden in a few X’s. It’s clear the X and S are Tesla’s niche products and they treat them like secondary cars.
10 k in rebates.. 7500 fed 2,000 state 500 city.. 4 years bumper to bumper bigger screen.. fresh battery 8 year warranty 1st owner not a hammy down.. financially it's better choice.. price is now 49 k for base model y long range
$7500 tax credit for new model Y
You have to have a tax liability to get that also its limited by your income 150K for individual and 300k filing jointly if you earn more than that you don't qualify.
@@skblut Most of us don’t make that much single or married
True not everyone qualifies, and you would have to wait to get even if you did.
Warranty
2 late now! Last year bought model3 and this year MYP😂
its been 5 years since that car was released and we don't know how the person treated their battery. A battery that last 8-10 years is already more than 50% done and likely has no warranty. It is not a "better" deal. It is only less up front money. That is all.
A battery is 50% done after 8-10 years? Where are you getting this information from? Or are you just repeating what you read on the internet?
You can check battery health on your car in service mode. No need to guess how someone “treated their battery.”
@@darod850 re-read what I wrote. I never said that.
@@JJohnson313 That’s literally exactly what you said… re-read what you wrote.
@@KB-om9ol since you’re slow I’ll break it down for the mentally challenged. This video is about a used 2018 model car. Today we are in 2023. When you subtract 2018 from 2023 you get 5. So if the battery last 10 years and you buy it 5 years into the life cycle then that’s 50%. How is this a difficult concept for you to understand ?
@@JJohnson313 You’d know all about the mentally challenged. Just look at the crazy things your kind does to this country and the people in it….
X has more space, features and you still get more looks than the Y. Resale is a lot better than the Y
Just bought a 2022 X for $57k. Leaps and bounds better than the 2024 model Y. Beefier CPU, better screen position, more room, variable air ride suspension, and the overall build quality is superior.
I’d go with the X. No USS on 2023 models. Tesla vision not even close.
Model x is very heavy which means less range and more tear on wheels.
The MX is ridiculously expensive to maintain past its warranty. Most MX owners have done repairs worth 10-20K within the first 4 years. The simplest of things like a door handle can cost you 700-1000$. Not to mention the number of days in workshops.
I heard that the older model X's have glitchy screens because the hardware is old. Is this true?
I 100% agree with you
it needs a major refresh 2022 models have beeb recalled 11 times for faults
most of the recalls are actually OTAs
What's your range in it now?
If its not a refresh X then it’s not greater than the Y. Only the refresh beats a new Y.
Getting a 2018 MX is like buying a nice used 2018 BMW 7-series. Beautiful car; just be prepared for humungous repair bills that (IMHO) most purchasers of used cars can ill afford. Buyer beware.
Coming from a used Minivan.. a used X is the way to go
now for 68k, you get a new 2024 model x, used 2021 models are like 50k
Nice
The Model X is a money pit after 5 years.
Why buy one at all when you can still buy proper cars🙃
gas, and maintenance, tesla has zero maintenance costs and electricity is cheaper than gas
I would buy a 5 year old car
Never buy a used car
I bought a used S back in 18 it was a 15 model kept it til 2021 and bought a new Y the S was a good car but I love my Y.I test drove an X husband and I did not like it too big for us and the crazy doors in the back just asking for trouble.
@@skblut i just bought my 2023 Model Y Performance. Love it!
Except used Lexus or Toyota
