I don’t see it as furries but just as cool little monsters you would see in monsters inc 😁 I do think some of the “avatars” were cool looking like Jay. His avatar gave the total opposite feel from the person who was actually dancing as him. I mean there was a freaking rock man in there lol I loved it so much. I just wanna let you know this isn’t a hate/drama starting comment 😅 I do think that even though the show was saying “they are being judged on dance rather than looks because they are avatars of monsters” there was still a little bias in there bc come on, we’re human, we are going to judge everything by the way something looks.
Am furry, can confirm I love this premise! The Good: 1) The mo-cap technology is incredible 2) Overall, the dancers are talented and entertaining 3) Overall, the dancers seem like nice, deserving folks 4) The character animation is genuinely impressive, especially given the constraints they had to work with 5) The character design is better than I was expecting 6) I absolutely *love* people being able to express themselves and show off their talents without fear of judgment, 7) Much like with cosplay or fursuiting, I love how this mo-cap technology opens incredible doors for worthy and deserving people who might otherwise be rejected or dissed due to being seen as too old, too young, too fat, too homely, too this, or too that, and 8) I love how each dancer's "groovesona" (trademarked, donotsteal) has its own name, and that some of the people actually started to get into character a little---more of that, please! The Bad: Same as with most talent competitions these days, I absolutely hate the obvious filler in the form of the fake, artificially-heightened tension and the excessive judge banter, and wished they devoted more time to letting us get to know the competitors. At least we can fast-forward through it to get to the bios and the actual dancing! I also agree about the extraneous and distracting cuts while people are dancing. I'm used to seeing people emote in fursuit, so I honestly wasn't distracted or bothered by the fact that the characters' facial expressions were limited, but it's absolutely true that the audience would be better able to connect with the dancers if their faces showed more emotion or if they cried genuine tears. I agree that I'd love to see people dance in actual costumes, but dancing in a fursuit or a cosplay is *not* for the frail or totally-uninitiated, because it can be hot and cumbersome, and you do have to learn how to move differently. Might be interesting to have a dance comp between people in mo-cap suits and people in fursuits and cosplays. Minor nit: By my definition, at least, robots aren't monsters! I would've called the show something like "Boogiemation," personally, because not every creature or imaginary being is a "monster." But, they didn't ask me.
@@haztrology , I love to dance, but I'd probably be voted off immediately because I am mediocre at best! :D I feel like I'd need a ton more practice and instruction to be even a quarter as good and as disciplined as these people! I also have a disability that limits my mobility and flexibility somewhat, so I could see myself getting frustrated that some moves are just "off-limits" to me.
