Y O U - W I L L - N E E D ▶
· 1 sheet of rectangular paper such as A4.
Mine is 21 x 29.7 (A4)
It will fit small paper that is about 8 - 10 cm.
If you want to fit in some paper that is 15 x 15cm, start with paper that is 47.6 x 34 cm
The way to work out how big your paper needs to be - take the width of your paper (that will go in the pocket) let say 20 cm.
Add 1 - 2 cm (depending on how many sheets there will be)
Now do this sum using your number. (22)
22 x 2.8 = 61.6
22 x 2 = 44
So you would need paper that is 61.6 x 44 cm
Where to get paper this big? You could use wrapping paper, newspaper, butchers paper or brown paper for parcels!

I can't reply to your comment - you should change your privacy settings in google plus.
The brown paper comes in packs from Target here in Australia, it's very cheap and a perfect weight for lots of models.
The other ones I'm afraid I have had for years - the blue Japanese one is washi paper which comes in rolls from art stores, the blue and pink ones where gift wrap sheets I got in a book shop :) Hope that helps!
***** It would be very very big paper, and also to the pocket is square, so wouldn't be a great fit.

For an even stronger lock, you can start with USA lettersize paper (or same proportion). Top overlapping triangle comes down lower and small triangles have to be tucked in a small amount. Both of these things make it stronger.
Also, to make the right size packet for any size square, know that the long side of your rectangle should be twice the diagonal (hypotenuse) of your square (plus some for roomy fit/thickness). To get the lettersize proportion from any other rectangle: fold a separate lettersize paper in half diagonally and trim your rectangle so its diagonal matches that.

Hi there! What is the brown paper that you use in your tutorials and where do you get it from? I just thought that it would be nice to use it for prototypes etc. Thanks! Also, in the final designs, could you tell me where you got the paper for those? (For instance the medium dark floral design) Is there a specific website you get all of this from? The A4 sheet made a pretty tiny pocket. Does this mean that we have to use super large paper to make one that fits with 15 cm x 15 cm paper?

Really cool! To bad I can't fold it because I live in the US :( Where do you get your origami designs from. I know you design a lot of them, but how do you find the one's that you don't make up?
Why can't you fold it if you're in the U.S. ? 😅 I try to make videos for traditional models - that have no known designer, sometimes I find others on Pinterest and from books 😀
Oh because you don't have A4? You can just use US letter paper 😀

There is no way to make it rectangular :(
... but to make it big enough to store A4 paper, you'd need 95.2 x 67.3 cm!
